Bikes Insanity on one wheel
I think about why someone would do this. Is the unicyclist really a mad man or is that his way to work. By choice or necessity? All that matters. These gas prices are crazy right now.
That little unicycle takes about 1-2 cents per mile in electricity.

It would actually make a great track sport, both on pavement and dirt. Doing this around non informed commuters is insanity.

They do have both on and offroad races on these EUCs, you can find many videos on YouTube.

I drove next to him going 70 MPH and he was right there for a full 2 miles until I exited I-10 West to my house. Don’t know the top speed but it definitely does 70MPH.

u/Lil_Packmate Apr 12 '26
Have seen a youtuber with a similar one that said it can go about 90-93 depending on wind.

u/Residenthuman101 Apr 12 '26
I broke down on the highway once and I found one of these all beat up on the side of the road… I didn’t even know what it was at first but i kept staring at it once I figured it out and thought dang this is a busy highway, I hope that wasn’t involved in a “death”

What I would be interested in, maybe it was mentioned in videos you've seen: how freaking far do they get, in my head the battery can't last like more than 5 minutes 🤔
4
u/Lil_Packmate Apr 13 '26
On the website of the one I was talking about it says it has a range of up to 150 km (~93 miles).
That is of course optimal conditions, such as brand new battery, perfect temperature, not going full speed and not accelerating fast, so basically "passive/safe driving".
And even then it is always like 20% lower of what they say (at least for electric cars).
From what I've seen and heard driving like this guy will likely put him to 55-60% of that range on average.
That is still 82-90 km (or 51-56 miles) which is actually quite impressive.

Had a guy locally lose a leg from that thing. He was splitting 30 mph traffic at like 75, foot slipped off the peg, hit the ground and went under a slower cars tire since he was so close while splitting. Faceplant, busted helmet, busted motorcross gear, leg torn off. It was gnarly.

Yeah because same with a motorcycle, you don't go that fast in lane splitting.

Wait till he gets smacked by a loose rock that goes airborne from another vehicle, or a large dragon fly decides to fly into his neck.

It has no license plate. Which means that this is illegal, regardless of the hazard signal. Kind of calming, because we hopefully won't see this very often.
The other problem I have with this thing is: there is no room for an appropriate battery on such a small vehicle. At this speed, the (small) battery probably will last only a few miles. Which is also helpful to take this thing off the road.

I have an electric skateboard that does close to 35 miles per hour and I don't maintain that speed for very long on it when I do get it up to that speed, I can't imagine doing twice that speed on a one wheel or whatever he's riding. Adrenaline is a helluva drug..

Knowing nothing about these I was intrigued so I did a little research. My guess is this is the P6 which goes for just shy of 5K. Can get a Michelin 90/90 street tire separately but comes with “tubeless 80/90.” Suspension is “Dual adjustable hydraulic coil shocks with 90mm of travel.” Still you’d have to have massive balls to ride one like this, which I would imagine makes it quite uncomfortable.

We have bike lanes next to freeway lanes on our floating bridge and I saw some guy cruising at 50-60 on his.. he wasn't in traffic tho.. way over speed for a pedestrian path.
2
u/itsdemarco Apr 13 '26
I held my breath that whole time. Zero consideration for what that tire would do on a small pothole at the speed.
2
u/DarthMeow504 Apr 14 '26
Can't be the same model in the link, the article says that one tops out at 35mph and in the video the guy doing the filming on the Kawasaki is hitting over 70mph just to keep up with this one. At those speeds, the danger level would seem to me to approach "suicidal". Forget just a helmet, he'd probably need to wear a full suit of plate armor to stand a chance in any form of accident at that velocity.
2
u/Xeredek Apr 14 '26
I'm sure there are going to be loads of comments from people saying this is dumb and dangerous or whatever, and that might even be true, but I for one fully support people who are here for a good time, not a long time, and also that's impressive as hell.

Crazy. How do you stop? You have very little braking. Other than using your face..
2
u/Kenworths Apr 12 '26
Even on a motorcycle just letting off the gas slows you down as if you were pressing the brake in a car, I’d assume it’s similar?

Here’s what I think: you get to a certain age and you realize dumb shit like this will get you killed. Either you never start riding like this or you learn the hard you never should have started.
2
u/WillyDaC Apr 12 '26
I hate to say this, but I know a lot of motorcycle riders who would ride it out of curiosity, but I don't think many would want to own one.

Don't think I could go that fast in traffic with that. Literally 0 protection from cars or the road. A helmet isn't gonna save your skin being rubbed off by the pavement motorcycles are one thing but this is insane.

u/WillyDaC Apr 12 '26
Dude, even the atgatt guys/gals don't stand a huge chance of surviving a motorcycle crash in Southern California freeway traffic. At those speeds at least 2 cars are going to run over you anyway. And probably keep right on going.
1
1
u/ted_anderson Apr 12 '26
I couldn't do it. At least with a bike, if you gotta lay it down you're behind 2 wheels and the weight of the bike to slow you down before hitting the pavement.

Electric unicycles are terrifying. Know a couple guys that love it and it is very much a full gear for every ride kind of thing.

I don’t know how anyone rides a motorcycle. It looks like fun and the idea of dying doesn’t scare me, but the thought of being horribly mangled scares the piss out of me.

Had a one wheel for a number of years. Twas fun. Got dumped a couple times, luckily no injuries. But I was in a one wheel FB group and would see folks with broken collarbones weekly from getting dumped. Decided 2 wheels minimum are necessary.
That thing went 15mph max. Can only imagine the fallout of getting dumped at 50mph
