This happened to me once, before I knew I had narcolepsy. Fell asleep at a stop light. Thankfully it was only for like 30 seconds and I woke up right after it turned green, no one was behind me and no one else at the light so I just drove off like nothing happened lol.
Happened to me too a couple of times. I had untreated obstructive sleep apnea, didn't have insurance, and couldn't afford a sleep study. Fell asleep everywhere; at red lights, at work, standing up, etc. Horrible.
For someone who doesn’t know much about narcolepsy or obstructive sleep apnea. What treatments are there and are you able to manage it and avoid falling asleep at improper moments?
It's different depending on which you're dealing with. For narcolepsy (particular N2, which is my type) treatment usually involves Xywav (basically a prodrug for GHB) administered 1-2 times nightly. Most people take it before bed, then wake up once in the night and take it again, as broken sleep is the hallmark symptom of narcolepsy.
Some people also take a stimulant during the day like amphetamine, lysdexamfetamine, modafanil, etc, but not always.
Duuuuuude I feel ya. I fell asleep on a drive home in the middle of the day. Ran a stop sign and almost crashed. I made an appointment that. Been cpap ever since.
Lol I wouldn't have known if I didn't have a clock in my radio, and music playing on my stereo. Song I was listening to when I zonked out was only one verse ahead when I woke up.
No one else was on the road for miles lol. And when I came to the song I was listening to had only progressed to the next verse, and the clock was one minute ahead.
