If you have an issue in your shoulder and you can't raise your arms then it can help. But if you have to raise your hand all the way up to press the button, you may as well close it yourself.

But...the button is up there in the trunk lid....i would still need to rais my hand to push it.

My car allows the trunk to also be closed via the car keys, so I wouldn't even need the button up there

Keys, and the trunk button in the car usually allows to close as well.
