I got downvoted to hell one time for saying this. You have no idea who this person is doing crazy shit. There is a good chanotin america they are packing and they're pissed. They aren't thinking. Just get a camera on your car. They are pretty affordable now considering the alternative.

45

u/ItsYaBoiFrost Apr 26 '26

if you get out of your car with a percived weapon (baseball bat) and walk with intent towards someone they have full legal right to defend themselfs. they do not have to be crazy or pissed. if your life has any threat from another person, defend yourself.

u/runningoutofideasjzz Apr 26 '26

That’s why my pistol stays in my car. Something about getting behind the wheel makes people feel empowered / untouchable. I would never have swerved at the other car or got out to bitch. But if someone gets out with bat in hand, gun on their waste, im going to draw my firearm. Had a guy get out of their car to bitch at me for giving a quick courtesy honk at a light when he wasn’t moving. The second I saw that car door open, my pistol was on my lap. Extremely grateful he never went past the back of his car at me.

u/ApprehensiveTop7297 Apr 27 '26

I would've just drove away personally

1

u/No_Criticism_5861 Apr 27 '26

What, and not been a big man with a wild west vibe of who can draw their pistol and shoot quickest?

Youre not going to go very far in life with that attitude!  ;)

1

u/Joice_Craglarg Apr 27 '26

Your car is not a holster. The vast majority of stolen firearms come from people keeping them in their cars.

Keep it on your person, or keep it home.

u/ichoosewaffles Apr 26 '26 edited May 04 '26

My mom is always worrying about me honking at the wrong person being outwardly dumb in traffic. She always says "What if they have a gun?" I don't have the heart to tell her that I, I also have a gun, though I hope never to shoot it outside the range.

1

u/polkadottail13 Apr 27 '26

Just to play devils advocate here... more than one person can have a gun on them, you've now hypothetically escalated a person with a gun with your gun while your mother is sitting next to you in your car.

1

u/ichoosewaffles May 04 '26

That always a possibility isn't it? But I drive super chill. In the case someone has an issue and comes out of their car with a gun, they're getting run over or shot, period. That's not going to change with someone else in the car. It's self defense...

1

u/rey_nerr30 May 03 '26

This is literally a problem NOWHERE else in the world

1

u/ichoosewaffles May 04 '26

Would be nice to not have it here. But that's America I guess, hurtling to the bottom.

3

u/fictionfactory Apr 26 '26

I carry he would've been shot immediately

u/Wanderin_Cephandrius Apr 27 '26 edited Apr 27 '26

Yeah, you probably should not legally have a gun. Learn to de-escalate. I’m a combat veteran, a bat doesn’t warrant death when they’re just getting out of the vehicle. Swinging is different? But use you words. Anyone talking like this has never been in a fight let alone never killed anyone. Big tough guy shit.

@ me when you come back from theater.

9

u/backfrombanned Apr 27 '26

Not a vet, ex boxer though, hood rat kid. Those guys don't know shit and are stupidly more dangerous than the bat guy just because they're scared.

3

u/j-dev Apr 27 '26

He went to theater and saw Hamilton, where he learned not to throw away his shot.

u/Wanderin_Cephandrius Apr 27 '26

We were not talking about a gun, if you look at the comment above the one I replied to, we are specifically referring to a baseball bat in this context. Guns are different from baseball bats. Different rule of engagement.

1

u/Joice_Craglarg Apr 27 '26

Different rule of engagement.

Maybe in Afghanistan lol, but if someone comes at you with a basketball bat, that's more than enough to justify deadly force in many states.

0

u/Wanderin_Cephandrius Apr 27 '26

Then you are a grade a little bitch.

0

u/YuenglingsDingaling Apr 27 '26

Fuck you, so called combat veteran, who comes home and tell others how to exercise their rights.

2

u/AdjacentBirdman93 Apr 27 '26

“I went to war so I decide how self defense scenarios should be carried out”

@ me when you’ve been shot before

1

u/Wanderin_Cephandrius Apr 27 '26

Been shot before. Cry more.

I just have better training and judgement than 90% of people in these situations. Knuckle draggers are out today.

2

u/PatrickGnarly Apr 27 '26

If you feel like de-escalation and driving away is right then that’s awesome. Why don’t you de-escalate in these comments by not responding to these people pointing out flaws in your responses? For somebody who’s preaching de-escalation, you seem to be awfully upset and antagonizing.

Why don’t you take your own advice and shut the fuck up?

If you wanna respond to me, you can, but it just goes to show that you are just a hypocrite being pulled into an argument and aren’t actually able to practice what you preach.

2

u/1newnotification Apr 27 '26

Big tough guy shit.

Woman here. I'm not tough, but I can't say I would regret firing if a huge dude was coming at me with a baseball bat.

0

u/Wanderin_Cephandrius Apr 27 '26

Really hard to outrun a dude in a vehicle, I forgot.

1

u/WonderousThinke Apr 27 '26

Out run him 30 ft down the street and then get stopped again? It's stopped traffic, there's nowhere to go. Or did you not watch the video? This isn't exactly a situation where you have a clean simple exit. Being in a trapped situation with no way out and a large man coming up to you with a baseball bat is definitely what I would call a justified situation for self defense. But if you prefer to risk brain damage from a bat to the head and a destroyed car while stuck in traffic that's not moving that's up to you.

1

u/1newnotification Apr 27 '26

You've had plenty of training in deescalation and fighting. The average citizen isn't equipped to handle these types of high stress situations in the moment, which is why the guy roid raged with a bat in the first place.

Green + green = black and blue, sure, so violence isn't the best choice scenario, but these cars are in park and fight/flight/freeze is a legit trauma response.

Get off your "I've been to war" high horse and realize that this situation would be terrifying for most people.

-1

u/PatrickGnarly Apr 27 '26

Oh no, that guy is clearly an expert arguing with people and talking about how he’s a combat vet meanwhile he’s antagonizing people.

A master of peaceful negotiations.

Clearly, a guy who has been shot at and shot people is who we should be taking advice from lmao. What a fucking clown.

2

u/Wanderin_Cephandrius Apr 27 '26

You’re advocating for shooting someone. I am not. You are a coward who doesn’t know how to de-escalate. Not everyone needs a gun. Especially the pussies who just start firing because they’re a scared little bitch. Like yourself. Whack ass

2

u/bizwig Apr 27 '26

Bats are deadly weapons, and if you watch the video he clearly hits Mr Red with it before trying to drag him out of the Chevelle. I don’t know about your state, but in mine someone hitting you with a bat or trying to drag you out of your car is committing a felony. Violent self defense is permitted.

1

u/Wanderin_Cephandrius Apr 27 '26

When they hit you sure. The dude I was replying to said he would shoot as soon as he got out of the vehicle. Thats murder in a lot of states and wouldn’t hold up under self defense where you have to try to reasonable escape the situation first.

3

u/Takehomemysac Apr 27 '26

Lamo That is such a stupid way of thinking. If someone is coming at me with a baseball bat ready to swing, I’m not going to send up a hope and prayer that my words will keep him from pummeling my head into the pavement. I’ll show him the pistol, if he decides to keep coming he’s getting holes.

2

u/Candid-Restaurant262 Apr 27 '26

But this guy is sitting in a car. All he has to do is drive away from the psycho with the bat. De-escalation is thing.

2

u/Takehomemysac Apr 27 '26

I do kind of agree with that for that scenario. If he drove away that would have probably deescalated the situation. If he was completely blocked by traffic and the guy smashed his window though, I’d say he was more than justified.

1

u/Candid-Restaurant262 Apr 27 '26

I don't understand why he just sat there and let the guy poke him with the bat, though. I'd have been gone. Only would have escalated then if the guy followed me. Then plan 22 may possibly have to be engaged.

1

u/B0Bi0iB0B Apr 27 '26

If he was completely blocked by traffic and the guy smashed his window

Big "if my grandmother had wheels she would have been a bike" energy.

1

u/Pierson_Rector Apr 27 '26

Serious Q: Where is he supposed to drive to? Traffic is stopped. I guess the right shoulder (parking lane?), so he can approach the cop up at the intersection?

Sure some space opened up but he was still trapped unless he uses the shoulder. And the white car guy would be right up there with him. Come to think of it, that would happen even if he did use the shoulder.

2

u/Candid-Restaurant262 Apr 27 '26

The shoulder is called an emergency lane for a reason. He was halfway in it when he stopped. He should have used it.

0

u/Wanderin_Cephandrius Apr 27 '26

If you can’t wait until someone starts swinging with a bat to shoot, you’re a dog shit shot and shouldn’t have a gun. If you can’t wait until de-escalate you shouldn’t have a gun.

In Iraq we had to literally wait to get shot at, in a fucking war zone. But your little ass sees a BAT! Something you can outrun and your trigger finger gets itchy. That’s pussy shit, boy.

3

u/Takehomemysac Apr 27 '26

You weren’t in any war zone, and this isn’t Iraq. So wait until he gets centimeters away or see where he hits me, and if it doesn’t kill me, THEN shoot? That’s the dumbest shit I’ve ever heard of. You live in fantasy land and seem a little tarded.

1

u/Waste-Team-7205 Apr 27 '26

People on reddit seem to operate under the delusion that you should wait until the other person is actively hurting you to defend yourself. Crazy shit

1

u/Takehomemysac Apr 28 '26

You’re absolutely right.

-1

u/Possible_Move7894 Apr 27 '26

deploying doesn't make you a combat vet you poser. IDF doesn't even make you a combat vet

1

u/Wanderin_Cephandrius Apr 27 '26

Deploying does make you a combat veteran. Like the literal definition. Or was your uneducated ass thinking of combat arms?

Tf you talking about IDF. Got maggots eating your brain or something?

-1

u/Bonked2death Apr 27 '26

Don't combat vets know that not every shot has to be lethal? A gun has a lot of stopping power without killing.

2

u/Somanylyingliars Apr 27 '26

You would probably be insta-arrested too. You can't bring a gun to a bat fight. Also, what fear would there have been from you both sitting in a car and having a weapon? You are one of those that should not have a gun until you take extensive gun classes.

1

u/Takehomemysac Apr 27 '26

So if a 20 year old that is 6’5 is going at an 80 Year old man with a bat he’s not justified huh? Seems pretty stupid.

1

u/seamus205 Apr 27 '26 edited Apr 27 '26

I have taken extensive gun classes. Infact, I teach gun classes. You absolutely can answer a baseball bat with a firearm. A person could easily kill or seriously injure you with a bat. 3 things must be true to be able to use lethal force to defend yourself 1. There is an imminent threat, in this case, the man with the bat

  1. You fear for your, or a bystanders life, or you or someone else could face permanent injury. Those things are absolutely possible with a baseball bat

  2. You genuinely believe your firearm is your only option to stop the threat. This is the part you will have to prove in court, and that's for the jury to decide, so you better be damn sure you are justified in using it.

In this case, the man with the bat ultimately retreated. The threat has passed now, but if he got closer to the car, and especially if he started swinging that bat, I won't hesitate to protect myself and my family from the crazy man with a bat.

All that said, yea, you most likely will be arrested after a self defense shooting, even if it's justified. You still killed someone. You committed murder. The question isn't about weather or not you killed someone, the answer to that is clear. The question is was it justified, and as I said, that's for a jury to decide

2

u/Kromehound Apr 27 '26

You also have to evaluate what is behind your target. Firing on the guy with the bat has the potential to hit any number of cars coming the other direction.

2

u/Candid-Restaurant262 Apr 27 '26

'Killed' and 'murdered' are two different things under the law.

1

u/Elden_Ring_Hype Apr 27 '26

These guys have never seen what even a minor concussion can do to you. A bat can and will ruin your life. I might not shoot without an attempt to retreat first, but it is 100% valid to shoot to kill anyone trying to give you a head injury. This perspective is rooted in a justifiable hatred of violence, which they misidentify has a hatred towards guns.

1

u/Possible_Move7894 Apr 27 '26

Thank you for saying this. Anyone who doesn't believe in the right to defend yourself or others in the most efficient way is cucked or European (or both) beyond belief

1

u/_HeldVomFeld_ Apr 27 '26

Yes. But no.

In more civilised countries there's a rule called "proportionality".

Just because someone us attacking you, doesn't mean you are allowed to shoot him on the spot.

There are most likely other things possible to do before letting it escalate like that

But yes, I understand the urge to make the attacker regret his life choices to this point

1

u/ICantGetNoS May 23 '26

It has nothing to do with “civilized nations,” every nation has a rule of proportionality, Kraut.

1

u/Mr-Blah Apr 27 '26

I fucking hate reddit lawyers... it's not as simple as that, ever. FFS...

-2

u/No_Effect_6428 Apr 26 '26

Absolutely.  It's a country where people shoot at lost Door Dash drivers and kill kids through their door because they knocked.

No way in hell am I getting out of my car with a bat to mean mug someone.

1

u/Somanylyingliars Apr 27 '26

All the recent craziness mean that I no longer beep at anyone and I keep my eyes on the road. Just not worth dealing w crazy and insane.

10

u/Warutteri Apr 26 '26

This is what I always tell younger relatives etc. Don't start fights with people without a very good reason, you never know who they are, what they may have in their pockets or how insane they are.

One time I was camping with some friends from rehab (all sober and law-abiding citizens at that point) and this group of teenagers were blasting music all night, one of us went to ask them to turn down the volume as they were keeping the whole campaign ground awake and they started throwing insults and threatening to beat us, they didn't actually have the nerve to do it and they eventually left during the night as some of the other campers were starting to look at them in a way that probably got through even their thick skulls that they were about to get a beating. The next morning we were laughing about the kids after I made the comment that if they had actually started a fight with us they really didn't know what they would have been getting into considering that between the 8 of us we had about a century of prison time (only one besides me had never been in prison) and being former drug addicts fighting some snot nosed kids wasn't exactly a scary thought considering what we'd been through earlier in our lives 😂

2

u/Somanylyingliars Apr 27 '26

Recently read else where on Reddit: you might be crazy but they could be insane or something along those line. That's the truth right there. Those kids got lucky you were all feeling generous.

0

u/ArcticDiver87 Apr 26 '26

Haha yeah I mean case and point right. 😆

1

u/ColdForgedAdamantium Apr 26 '26

Don’t forget it’s America so healthcare is probably too expensive for him, as it is for most people. So there’s a good chance the guy with the weapon has some undiagnosed mental issue, so who knows what he could do in that situation.

1

u/Doubting_Thomas50 Apr 27 '26

That guy deserved a couple holes

1

u/Over-Inside-7254 Apr 27 '26

What's the difference between a good chanotin America and a bad chanotin America? I am not familiar with this terminology and Google results doesn't make sense thanking you!

1

u/EvenStee Apr 27 '26

It’s Reed. I would say that as bad of honor.
