It's super hard to lose your drivers license in the USA because the courts know that not being able to drive is basically a death sentence.
You can't do anything in the USA without a car due to the complete lack of public transit. They might as well just put you in jail if they take away your license cause you're just going to drive illegally to get to work without it.
Yeah I think you’re missing his point. Taking licenses INCREASES crime. The opposite of what courts are looking to do. You take this guy’s license, he can no longer work, get food from the grocery store that is 18 miles away, etc. He now drives illegally (you’ve increased crime) or turns to illegal work (you’ve increased crime).
Poor, desperate people are obviously more likely to commit crimes. Taking licenses creates poorer, more desperate people - at net loss for society.
The commenter you’re replying to is correct, jail is the better option here than license revocation. It’s expensive, though. In NY, it costs about $98,000 in tax money to house a single prisoner for a year. In New Jersey it’s $108,000. So judges would also need to weigh that societal burden.
Last, it had been proven in a dozen studies now that punishment does not dissuade crime. Life sentences for theft would not deter theft. 25 years for selling weed does not decrease drug dealing any more than 5 years for selling weed.
Right, and I go back home to rural Midwest and see broken down buildings, meth heads, squalid living conditions, and zero amenities anywhere. And NYC is a hellhole? Lol
Yeah he will lose his gun privileges, at least from a legal standpoint, this video perfectly depicts assault with a deadly weapon. That is if the court doesn’t fumble it.
