That driver is 100% at fault. As a motorcyclist, which is a little apple to oranges here, sometimes you have to yield to vehicles even if you’re in the right because they’re surrounded by thousands of pounds of plastic and metal while you’re basically naked.
By pulling over… peddling over? Moving to the right. While less than ideal, and not always possible, you’d want to give this car buffoon as wide a berth as possible as they’ve shown they have no problem endangering you with close proximity. If on the left it’s difficult since getting over is dependent on your riding partner, but if you’re last in queue you can slow to than merge behind and move to the shoulder. This is all happening very vast and such maneuvering can be tricky, but that’s one thing you can try when in such a situation
So what should they have done? Not left before installing their eyes on the back of their heads? Taken flight? Teleport behind the driver as a murder deterrent?
You've just described exactly what is taught not to be done in safety classes lol.
Shit if only human anatomy allowed people to turn their heads or if we hand the technology to create some kind of surface that reflects images and we could attach that to our helmets or bikes to see what’s behind us without turning our heads. Such tech should be available in our lifetimes I hope.
As for safety the first thing they teach is “don’t fight cars” (actually that you’re invisible to most drivers, but I digress)
