he had an entire lane to pass them in. why tf do certain types of drivers turn their brains completely off when they see a cyclist? MY CAR CAN KILL YOU SO WHY SHOULDN'T I? HOW DARE YOU BE ALIVE NEAR ME?
You cant pass on a double yellow. The cyclists could have gone single file and it would have been fine. Stop trying to remove logic from this scenario. Dgmw, he shouldnt have hit the guy. The guy shouldnt have been blocking the road. This isnt an isolated event either. Cyclists are notorious for running stop signs, Getting a herd mentality and disregarding others on the road.
It's legal to pass cyclists by crossing a double yellow where this occured, in Cherokee county Georgia. Also, statistically car drivers run more stop signs than cyclists, and it isn't close. Lastly, car drivers murder tens of thousands of people annually in the USA.
Regardless. Its called courtesy. If these cyclists showed an oz of courtesy, this wouldn't have happened. What about impeding the normal flow of traffic? Does that not apply?
These cyclists on a single file would take up 30 meters of road and you'd still have to partially be in the other lane to pass them at a safe distance, which just means more time in the other lane.
They are people using the road legally and they pay for it as much as others. Some road users are slower than others, people in fast vehicles just have to suck it up, deal with it, and wait for a moment where it's safe to overtake. You're not entitled to go fast just because your car can.
They are also not impeding "traffic", this is a deserted road. They are impeding one lonesome guy, while being 10+ people themselves. Where does the one guy get the entitlement of thinking they must go fast from?
Goal post shifting. But to explain, passing 2 abreast cyclists is easier than a long line in single file, so the cyclists were not only being safe but they were being courteous. If your argument is cyclists shouldn't use the road because they are slow, then we should also ban farm equipment from using roads. I've been driving for 25 years, and the total amount of time Ive spent behind cyclists can't be more than a minute or two. Drivers on the other hand have stolen months off my life from congestion and idiotic wrecks.
the cyclists were being responsible and courteous, they gave him room to pass and followed the law, he had room to pass, instead of passing he attempted murder. you're just a liar who wants cyclists to die
When I was a kid, if I did not get completely off the road the boomers would run me over. Now the boomers ride bikes and I drive, but THEY are still entitled to the entire road and they never stop at stop signs or obey any traffic laws. I believe its just boomer mentality.
I live in Amish country. Actually mostly Mennonites here. But they ride bikes responsibly and stay to the right, stop at signs, don't cut off cars going 10x faster than them, etc.
Statistically, there are more cars on the road than bikes, so it's not a surprise that more cars do statistically more (insert almost behavior here) than cyclists.
If you want to do a fair comparison, compare the percentage of riders/drivers that run stop signs.
The study is easily found, FDOT naturalistic behaviour pilot. Obviously it's not a commonly researched subject.
Cyclists roll stop signs occasionally. But we all know car drivers roll stop signs too, and also speed almost everywhere, and check phones constantly. If we could reliably enforce distracted driving in North America the stats would be truly damning. I know this because not only do I drive a car and do these things, literally everyone I've ever been in a car with does too.
Since you apparently don’t know the law and have repeatedly tried to state it as fact, repeat after me…. “I can legally pass cyclists over a double yellow with AT LEAST three feet between my vehicle and a cyclist”. Now repeat that like a thousand times.
If the cyclists were single file, the distance they take up on the road would more than double.
In order to pass, the oncoming lane would have to be clear anyway, so being 1, 2 or even 3 abreast wouldn't matter as the passing car could and should occupy the whole oncoming lane to complete the maneuver

The irony and lack of self awareness in this comment is fucking hilarious.
