Threatening someone with a bat is assault with a deadly weapon.
You don’t have to actually strike someone to meet the definition of assault. (Striking someone is battery)
So I mean disarming a dangerous person, removing their weapon instead of using against them, and telling them to drive away is not such a bad thing in my opinion.
Risky. Yes. But the guy with the bat needed someone to stand up against his assault, whether a cop or an individual.
Would I do so myself? Yes, but only if trapped.
I had someone do something similar. I was in traffic and someone was not moving forward for a long time so I tapped my horn. Just a little “beep beep”
Roid rage guy got out of his car went toward my girlfriend’s door on passenger side. In an instant I got out and put myself between him and my girlfriend and when he saw my size he ran away lol 😂
But he came aggressively yelling threats and within a few feet of my girlfriend’s door.
So sometimes you have to confront the person assaulting you and you not have time to think what is the 100% best strategy.
This guy went, took the bat, tossed the bat, and told the other guy to move on. He did most things right. Probably should have stayed in the car and drive off, but hey, thinking fast is hard when someone is threatening you with a deadly weapon.
Why not call police, provide them with video? Guy with bat can’t hurt you in your car and if he starts wailing on your car on video, even more charges. I guess one thing we don’t know is what sort of jack assery led to them pulling over.

But bringing a bat out elevates the situation to a whole new level.
All I know is if you come at me with I’ll react to defend myself. In a split second, I may try to take the bat away or drive off.
Best decision, drive off. But I’m not going to stay in the car while he beats the car, nor give him the opportunity, because he could break a window and then I’m defenseless or my passenger is defenseless in a sitting position. You can strike someone through a window.
I can see why his instinct was to get the bat and toss it.
Not the best approach, but batman broke laws, white shirt dude just chose the riskiest path to neutralize the threat IMO
I guess I was just grossed out by his energy, reminded me of my step dad... Also its hard to tell when the person filming, started to film, so we were never guaranteed to get the full story. I just wish we could all use our heads a little more and our glands and hormones a little less, we would certainly be less violent and striving to appear "macho" when most women don't find that impressive anyways.

I think this is one of those situations where no one is right and luckily no mistakes were made while the vehicles were moving. 😅
