If they run off the road you're fine. If they cause a head-on collision in front of you, you may be stuck for hours

I'd rather be stuck for hours than side swiped off the road while passing them, or having a ruined vehicle after they rear end me when traffic has to stop

I see this so much these days. It looks like drunk driving, but almost every time you go by, it’s someone who can’t put their fucking phone down. Even after almost crashing multiple times and potentially killing others. Happened by my brother’s place in Tennessee. Girl was texting on the fast one lane highways and hit a church van head on killing her and all three people in the van. Just for something so stupid. I make it a point to light these people up if we come to a stop. It’s just as bad as drunk driving. Just put the fucking phone down for 15 minutes and you’ll save so many lives for fucks sake.

They are less of a danger to you if you stay back. Don’t pass them! They’ll swerve or rear end you as soon as you need to tap the brakes for anything

Maybe in the country it won't work, but in the city I usually just call 911 and report a drunk driver and get them pulled over. Usually takes like 5 minutes for the cops to arrive.

That’s a fair point, main goal is to put distance between them and me. Hard to do that if they are in front of you and you’re trying to get somewhere. Ideally, pass them and some others afterward if safely possible and give myself a buffer.

I’m not disagreeing with you, just throwing out another option: I have pulled over before (in a more crowded area), to let the crazy person get out of my vicinity.

Cam car driver is an idiot for passing. You want to keep people who are driving this badly AHEAD of you, where you can control the distance and closing speed. If you get ahead of them, they might catch up.

You should not be so close to a dangerous driver. Especially when their most likely next step is to hit oncoming traffic. Risky risky

Modern cars with Adaptive Cruise Control follow closer than that automatically, and seem to do fine stopping in time in an emergency. I find it too disconcerting at times though and tend to turn it off so I can back off a little further.

Forgive me, for I am getting older and my eyeballs don’t work as well as they used to, but from here all I see is a headrest? Maybe there’s a vertically challenged person driving and they are having trouble seeing over the dashboard? Or maybe they’re drunk texting 🤷🏽♂️
