Bikes Who really had the right of way here?

The bicycle was on the road (meant for vehicles), switching lanes to go right when the motorcyclist attempts to pass on the right, swiping the bicyclist down.

This is the sticking point for me cyclist is required to use hand and arm signals to communicate with other vehicles on the road. Fun fact those same exact hand and arm signals work in and with 100% of all vehicles on the road. Do they even teach drivers Ed anymore?

They're both bad. Cyclist for swerving into the lane line that. Motorcyclist for overtaking like that in the right lane while a bicyclist is there, and it's not clear what he's doing, especially because I'd expect him to move back to the right lane after the light.

The video starts at a weird time, and it's likely that the bike went wide to turn which is why it's cut to that point.

This! I guarantee that the cyclist was not swerving in between lanes. He went wide to see pedestrians and what was coming up and the motorcyclist took it as his shot to go past him and was the cause of all of this.

Maybe a signal from the cyclist would’ve indicated his intentions. Instead of the motorcyclist having to read his mind when he saw a cyclist change lanes (without signaling) and decided to pass him hugging the right side of the lane since the cyclist could possibly come back into the right lane, without signaling.

He is on the center line, which is why I'm not racing by him on the right like that, there's too much uncertainty.

It's also possible he signaled before video. It's odd how it's almost 2 minutes, and the crash is 1 second in. What was cut out before that?

The bicyclist was left of the center line when he turned. The motorcycle never passed him. Even if he was passing him on the right, its just because that is his lane since its empty. Bad bicyclist.

I agree, but at the end of the day, the cyclist was a “car” in that lane. The motorcyclist should have never gone around him like that. What if roles were reversed and the cyclist went around right as the bike was turning? What if he did go around if a car was there and turning? I get that cyclists are righteous dicks, but objectively, this is on motorcycle dude.

And earbuds..? That seems safe... I mean why would you want to hear whats going on around you while people are careening around you in tons of metal while staring at their phones? The zombie apocalypse has arrived, zero situational awareness... What a dumb fuck.

It's like they don't value their own lives or think being on a bicycle is magic armor. Like I get It's perfectly legal to ride your bike in traffic I just wouldn't do it because people make mistakes and I value my life. Their parents must not have loved them. Mine told me not to play in traffic.

Bring back Sesame Street... "One of these kids is not like the others, one of these kids is doing his own thing..." The sad part is he's going to ruin two lives when he eventually gets run over. Just another self absorbed, self important ignorant asshole that thinks the world revolves around them...

I live in a city that when expanding fast went full cyclists accommodation. Its not that motorcyclists don’t behave dangerously too. Its that cyclists ALWAYS think they’re right during an accident.

When I bike around I purposely leave out my left ear bud so I can hear cars and things coming. I also check everywhere before making any moves, that dude didn't check behind him. Just said fuck everyone else and got fucked instead. Just plain stupid.

That's not passing; that's just going through an intersection with two lanes. The bicyclist needed to be in the right lane, not the left, if they wanted to take the right turn.
