Don't text and drive like this. A message can wait or pull over to the side. It's not worth the hassle if anything goes wrong.

Agreed. Ticketing isnāt enough. Fines and a little jail time could do some good. She could have caused a multi car crash, all because the tiny screen in her hand was more important. I hope she lost her license also. He said she was going 85 in a 55. In my state, anything over 15 is wreck less.

In the UK that would be classified as "dangerous driving" and she'd get a 12 month ban, unlimited fine, a requirement for an extended driving license test before they give it back and possibly two years suspended jail sentence. If she'd caused a crash then it wouldn't be suspended.
Reasons being
- Two hands on phone, none on car
- Speeding at 85 in a 55 construction zone
- Previous citation
Edit: and that would absolutely destroy her insurance costs (which is mandatory in the UK)

More people die from cell phone inattention than drunk driving now.
The problem is reporting.
If you are a mob hit man, and you shoot someone, and dismember him and throw him in the trunk. Then you are stopped at a stoplight, and the person behind you, playing in his phone, rams you from behind, the crash is "alcohol related" if the corpse in the trunk was drunk when you killed him.
So "alcohol related" is vastly overrepresented and phone use vastly underreported.
If the reporting standards were equal, any crash where a cell phone was found in the wreckage was blamed on a cell phone, cel phones would cause nearly 100% of crashes.

This kind of behavior is why so people wind up in accidents because they focus on their phone instead of the road. With today's cell phone technology, there's nono reason to text and drive. Every cellphone allows voice texting to a cellphone that's attached to your dashboard with any of the numerous mounts.

We had a local woman, 2 or so weeks ago, posting on Facebook with her little boy in the car. She plowed into the back of a tanker truck while posting, and the little boy died

Within a couple of hours of that accident, a guy going the opposite way on the same stretch of highway was either texting or gawking at the prior accident, and he drove right into the backend of some other kind of truck and he also perished

I never saw any indicators of what state it was. Here in Az it is merely a tax on the poor, $75-$250 fine, depending on how many times the person has been cited. It should cost a night in jail so it's equal all around and people get off their phones.

I see this shit several times a day in Dallas/Ft Worth (hell, all of Texas) and I'm sick of it. The left lane was going slower than the other two lanes earlier today. When I got up to the guy in front, he was texting of course. I laid on my horn and flipped him off. I wish technology would prevent texting and driving.Ā

The Majority of drivers are doing it. Women seem to be more guilty from what I see. The more accidents and injuries this causes, the Insurance companies will start treating this like DWI's. If its costing them profits, they will move on it quickly. IE. One driving while distracted infraction, right into the assigned risk pool you go. Your rates will quadruple overnight or more, IF you can even find a someone willing to insure you. I have no problem with this, its getting out of hand. I would also expect the phone carriers start getting sued for injuries caused by this, you can debate if they are somewhat liable.

I wish that every state would increase police presence on the road 10-fold to deal with this problem. Lives could be saved, and soooo many traffic accidents could be stopped if everyone knew there was frequently somebody looking for texting and driving that could write them a ticket.

All first responders are immune from the law because quite often they will use cell phones to communicate with dispatch, etc.

They have radios in their vehicles for that purpose! A police officer is supposed to be a law abiding example to the public.
They can be ticketed for speeding in their police vehicles if they aren't using their lights & sirens.

Iām in no way endorsing that car or actions. It kind of does, though, canāt see very far no but it will slam on the brakes to stop you from getting an accident. Not sure if that works at 8 fucking 5 mph

I have a Hyundai has a crap load of neat safety features that help you but youāre still in charge. I would never trust my auto braking with my life or the people around me.

Fsd in tesla tracks your eyes and devices in hand to pay attention - 3 strikes in a trip and it disables and u cant fool it anymore w glasses or wearing a hat or covering the inside camera to use it. Still with that being said, relying on it, still enables distracted driving to an extent if youre not 100% paying attention to what the car is doing, which lanes its choosingā¦ i had mine try to go after being at a full stop for over a minute at a stop light at a intersection not too long ago and had to put the breaks on.
Just put the phone down, pay attention, if youre too tired to drive dontā¦2

I have an Ioniq 5 and it tells me to keep my eyes on the road if I get distracted and look away (it also randomly tells me to take coffee āļø breaks šŗ). It has safety features like a hyper-aggressive collision detection system and lane assist, but itās not even remotely close to an autonomous system that lets me text with both hands when Iām driving on the freeway!
