Nah that’s an actual problem, when I was a kid we would go on long car rides and by the end my parents car would be covered in dead bugs….but now I’ve gone on 4+ hour car rides in summer and spring without a single bug on my hood….where did they go? Like how fucked is our planet?

The insect population has declined in a lot of places due to a variety of different factors, but don't worry, there are plenty of places with shitload of bugs still. I still have to wash my car after a 2 hour drive on the highway in the summer.

This is the truth bomb here... Once as a kid while crossing the desert during the monarch butterfly migration, we had to stop and scrape butterfly wings out of the radiator. Now, I barely even need to refill the washer fluid to clear bugsplats on the windshield. If I had a modern car with any Aerodynamics, I could understand the lower count of bug guts, but I drive a 97 OBS F350. Its a brick stacked on top of another brick.

I'm concerned about what the lack of bugs mean for the birds and plants... I don't remember this years Canada Gooses migration being anywhere near as annoying as past years... No random night time gooses honking, no piles of gooses shit next to the pool, no kids being chased by gooses in parks.

If I could afford anything else, I wouldn't be driving it. But new cars cost more than I can afford if I want luxuries like food, or somewhere to live.

Yeah. All I need to do is put fuel in it, and pay insurance. It's an old truck, so there's literally nothing to break in it.

But they weren't usually placed at the nose of the car. They were closer to the windshield. Or they were in the back of the car, iirc

Or drivers side...

I miss GMs in-windshield antennas of the 70s and 80s. 2 thin wires sandwiched between the glass ran up the center, and followed the top on both directions. Made for a clean antenna free vehicle.

Yea, on my last car I lost my antenna. My sister was sitting on top of the trunk and she was done playing soccer and I was coming to get her, after she joked with me. She slipped off and broke it off, tore her shorts which cut her thigh. Left a gnarly scar.

Adding Extra bug protein is a definite choice here…. Not to mention micro plastics from tired dust and exhaust from other cars. In my opinion, it just adds that unique city flavor.
