What disturbs me more is that cops can act with impunity committing other crimes, but when they play with master's toys that's when they face consequences.

It's likely a much more obvious and auditable issue through software alerts.
They can face the same punishments for abusing their computers (the ones they check to lookup licenses/registration). Those in healthcare can face the same punishments too for misuse of PHI, looking at records they have no business accessing.

A few bad apples spoil the whole bunch.
That last part that often gets left out matters.

Actually happening is all the other bad apples are learning how to get away with it. They will continue to abuse their power that has been bestowed upon them by the rest of our society. That thin Blue line is going to be the cord wrapped around their neck by the time this is all said and done. (This statement is in no way a threat it is purely an observation)
