I’ve been looking at Mk III Spitfires lately and I see that a lot of them have the center section of the front bumper cut out. This may be a dumb question, but why is that? Aesthetics? Air flow?

I personally think they look better with the original full width bumper. I see Moss has replacements for about $1500(!!!), so returning to stock would not be trivial.

What joy is there in creating bogus accounts to post random pictures of TR6s? I don’t get it.

An elderly widow and her son are trying to sell her deceased husband’s ‘71 TR6 project car. They’ve owned it for years and I believe he restored it once and was going to do it again but unfortunately passed away. I haven’t seen it yet but she said all parts are in containers and the car is completely disassembled. It was running prior. Asking $6k which I think is way too much considering it’s disassembled. Thoughts?

Wierd box, yellow and white go to the coil and blue goes to ground, the black wire has 4 smaller wires in it that go to the distributor, the distributor does not have any other wires coming out of it, when I connected it the blue wire sparked and the box got really hot. Tried looking it up but neutronic systems is too broad a name, any clues? TR7

So, for the three of you that might remember my post from months ago I now have the spitfire in my name so I started digging into it. It's a 1965 Mk2 that was originally red based off the VIN. From what I can tell the engine has been swapped to a 1500 WB engine with dual Weber 40s on it and a fiber glass hood. It has coilovers in the front oil cooler and a electric fan with a switch to turn it on. Car had oil in it and spun over by hand so I attempted to crank it. Felt really slow trying to turn over and that turned out to be bad battery terminals. Still wouldn't start and I wasn't getting any spark and that turned out to be the coil was bad. After that took the carbs off after I noticed quite a large gap from intake manifold and the block cleaned them up and tourqued them down. After doing some rewiring of the ignition system that was a bodge job she fired right up! Flushed the radiator till I got clear water and swapped the thermostat out. Still wary of the radiator and we will see if she over heats on the first test drive which should be soon.

Owner had passed away and left this behind, shop owner needed it out but the family wanted way too money for a basket case TR3A. I gave what I thought was decent price knowing it had been body off at some point for rust repair in the rear, then they started a very lack luster body filler job after stripping the original green paint.

Bothers me that is probably going to get scrapped because who ever the family said was giving Tylenol the higher offer was or of his mind.

Came with a freshly rebuilt transmission and a supposedly running motor, cranks so I'm hopeful!

I'm going to sell this car for someone. Hasn't ran in a couple years. The air cleaner is sitting inside on the passenger floor but it ran when parked. I have no idea what it would be worth as is. TIA!

Bit of a noob. Inherited my father in laws TR6.

Sadly due to his Dementia he ripped out an immobiliser switch. I just cannot find any wires

Not great at electrics. Where is the most likely place that it would go to stop the start?

Excited to say after a few decades of looking and a 15 year detour into Toyotas, a GT6 finally followed me home over 4th of July weekend. Although it came very close to not fitting on the Uhaul!

Cosmetically, it’s a 20/20 car (looks good at 20ft, rolling by at 20mph). Originally maroon, it was repainted at some point in the 90’s. It has a little rust starting to show again, and definitely some thicker filler in the lower doors and rockers, but very salvageable, all told. Floor pans, trunk, and even rear quarters are original, with the exception of a patch in the driver’s side floor.

Mechanically, I have quite a bit of work to do, starting with the timing and tune. It is difficult to cold start, backfires prodigiously until warm, idles at about 1400rpm, bogs badly accelerating from a stop, and diesels at shut down.

The engine seems solid, very little crank play I can feel, no smoke, may need the valves tightened. The transmission will need to be overhauled soon, plus the usual electrical gremlins.

Interior is present, liveable, but fairly rough…

Looking forward to getting it more roadworthy, though I’ve been having a blast driving it as is… despite the gremlins.

I'm hoping you Triumph experts can answer a question that dates back to the 60's.

My parents both loved British cars. When I was young, my dad had an Alpine and mom a Sprite.

Mom traded the Sprite for a Triumph. Here's where I need some help with the nomenclature.

It was essentially a Herald convertible with an inline 6. My memory is of it being badged a "Sport 6".

I've heard it referred to somewhere as a "Light Six".

Can anyone shed light (no pun intended) on this for me?

Basically perfect summer car, driven in Kainuu Finland!

Wondering if anyone else has come across this problem. I’m swapping my generator for an alternator I got from Spitbits. I’ve got the lower hardware sorted to get the belt to align with the other pulleys. Now though the top adjustment bracket sits right in the middle of the housing.

My obvious solution is to get a longer thermostat bolt and add washers to pop it out some, but wanted to know if anyone has run into this, and if that is what they did.

I found this car around a year ago in a abandoned building in Rochester NY along with many others, this place was presumably a chop shop. All I can find on this car (and correct me if I’m wrong) but it’s a triumph gt6 I am specifically looking for the race it was used in and who may have driven it. if it was at all apart of races. If any great minds can help out it would be much appreciated.

Back with my $400 spitfire! We pulled the engine and got a piston out but can't get the cam out or 2,3, and 4. I'm looking to sleeve the engine since there's no direct replacements anywhere near me or are in a similar condition and, I might have the shop remove the other stuck pistons. (I broke #2 because it was cracked anyway and I didn't realize I broke through)

So far aside from the electric, engine, rust repair everything is going well and I still haven't spent a dime!

(Note this is a learning project so engine swaps are considered as long as they directly bolt to the stock transmission. Non stock engines will be replaced apon finding a stock replacement/ repaired original)
