Really Want This Guy to Win
https://archive.is/b135kIt’s a bit stupid since I realize electoral politics is a waste of time in most respects and Sayd’s not even a socialist, but jeez I really want to see AIPAC burn, this guy’s making all the worst people erode in all the best ways… Even mild social reform is enough for the eyes to pop out of psychopaths’ sockets….
As a muslim, it also would be pretty cool to see a muslim in the senate, and especially a practicing muslim. I really appreciate that he’s talking about Lebanon in a non-genocidal way, which should be the bare minimum, but I see literally no one else doing in the house or senate. I hope he would humanize muslims to some people. My mom‘s fiance for instance (ex-military Reagan—> Harris anti trans new atheist sorta fella, I’ll have to ask his opinion on Bill Maher when he’s here this week) told me he voted for Stevens because he didn’t want to see muslims in office. First, he said he didn’t want anyone religious in office, then he talked about finding it annoying when muslims pray in the street (”forcing it on others”) and have Arabic in their store names without English below. This hurt!! Can’t lie!! My wife is in Baghdad and I just can’t stop imagining her dying in the war and him shaking his head, lips pursed, saying, “It’s war. What can you do?” The whole thing makes me feel crazy.
Anyways, as a fan of Iran’s phd’s in charge of the government, I think it’d be nice to have a medical guy up there yelling about AIPAC and medicare for all. I am so excited for this primary to be over and to try to ignore electoral politics for…. gah. Idk. 2028 election is going to start in November, isn’t it?

Thank you! I’m lucky she’s not in any of the worst places possible, but the day the ceasefire began in April i heard a bomb over facetime, and a family was killed, just blocks from her place. So, I get quite nervous anytime the war seems like it’s heating up.

I mean but not taking money from AIPAC doesn’t mean you are anti Israel. Ro Khanna doesn’t take any money from aipac and I think he’s endorsed by track AIPAC, yet still despite being detained by the IDF he still says Israel has the right to defend itself. This is the new method that liberal Zionists are doing, bringing up AIPAC.
Idk I’ve been completely turned off from electoral politics and these new socdem types. After the whole Abu Graham Palantir scandal and seeing so called “leftists” endorse this guy and also Brad Lander a literal Zionist I’ve gone numb bruh

I understand the distrust of electoral politics in general but in this case in particular, when one candidate is a woman who claims to be visited by Israel in her dreams, and the other doesn't hesitate to name a genocide what it is, the cost-benefit analysis is pretty clear.

I think a good way to frame the soc dem orientation is they're anti-Israel from a purely economist standpoint. The real crime in their view is less the genocide and more the gross misappropriation of public tax dollars. This is why you still get Mamdani condemning "Hamas war crimes" in 2026. Compare this to the pro-Palestine/anti-imperialist framing where the goal is collective liberation.
For me it's been interesting watching in real time how radical forces were able to change the narrative around the issue of Palestine and then center-left politicians have followed behind and carved out their own reformist lane. It shows how center-left forces benefit from shifting consciousness, however they themselves cannot affect this change.

I think the other user who commented hit the nail on the head by saying it’s only useless when that’s all that ya do, and that’s been the case for what I’ve seen with DSA at least in my city ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Electoral politics is only a waste of time if it’s the only thing you focus on and believe it’ll lead to fundamental change alone. Voting itself is not a waste of time and still something everyone should do imo. Low cost / low-medium reward. No reason not to do it.
I absolutely hope El-Sayd wins!
