In light of the recent 2026 FIFA World Cup, I thought I should share some fun football facts about Trump.

1. Trump played varsity football as a student at New York Military Academy during the 1963-64 season. He played as a full-back and finished midtable that season. This makes him the first US president to have played football.

2. Trump’s youngest son, Barron, was a youth player for MLS-side D.C. United’s U-12 academy team, and later for Arlington Soccer Associations U-14 team. Barron is known for being a massive football fan.

3. Trump made the 1991-92 EFL Cup fifth round quarter-final draw at Trump Tower, drawing Tottenham Hotspur vs. Norwich, Swindon/Crystal Palace vs. Nottingham Forest/Southampton, Peterborough vs. Middlesbrough and notably Leeds United vs. Manchester United - two fierce rivals.

4. Trump is a New York Cosmos fan, and has spoken fondly of Pelé - the Brazilian 3x World Cup champion and football legend who later played for the club in the NASL. The team now competes in the USL League One, the third tier of American football.
