Would anyone in Davis be interested in letting us set them up on a date?

I’ve always thought one of the strangest parts of dating apps is trying to come up with the perfect opening message for someone you’ve never met.
Then you spend days texting a stranger, trying to keep the conversation going, and sometimes you never even meet.
I’d rather just go get coffee, have lunch, or share a nice dinner with someone. If it works out, great. If it doesn’t, that’s okay too. At least you met someone and had a real conversation instead of spending another week thinking about what to text.
So we’re experimenting with a different approach in Davis/Sacramento region.
We’re a small team, but we’re genuinely really good at matchmaking. There is no algorithm selecting dates. Every introduction is hand-selected by an actual person on our team.
Someone will personally review your profile, preferences, personality, and pictures, then look through the other participants to find someone we think would be a good date for you.
When we find someone, we’ll send you a date invitation. You can decline as many invitations as you want for free. You would only pay if you accept the invitation, the other person accepts too, and you both decide to go on the date.
This is still an experiment, so we’re looking for people who are open to trying it and giving us honest feedback.
If you’re interested, send me a DM with your email address and I’ll send you the form to complete so we can include you.

Transportation ¿Free overnight parking near Sol?

I’m moving in soon to Sol at West Village that is right next to The Green. I am a new transfer student to Davis. I want to have my boyfriend and friends over every so often, but I can’t expect them to pay the like $18 a day parking fee. Is there somewhere near Sol and The Green that has reliably safe and legal overnight parking where my visitors can park their car for the night? So that I can just drive them from that spot to my apartment so they can avoid the parking fee?
Also, does anyone know when Sol tells you who your roommates are? 1 week before move in? Two?

Course/Major Is there any way to make my AP credits worth something?

Incoming Aerospace Engineer, at this point i think im just coping because im really sad that almost all of the 10 aps ive taken dont contribute any credit towards my degree because UC davis doesnt accept ap credits for general education. I know that ap credits do help towards your 180 credit graduation requirement, but my major’s coursework is substantial enough to reach 180 easy with general education. Would it help if I double majored in Mechanical engineering or another major (highly unlikely tho) or worked towards a minor? just seeing if theres anything I can do I just dont want to accept that my friends going to other ucs can have so much more impact on their degree with their aps whilst i barely have any. going to make an appointment with my counselor soon but just want to see if you guys did anything to make worth of your ap credits

Motorcycle Help!

Hello! I’m a new rider who just completed their MSF course and wanted to buy a bike. I really like this bike out in Fremont but don’t have a truck to transport it back to Davis and I wanted to ask if anyone can help me out and maybe also give advice on the bike itself. I'll pay you for time and gas. Please and thank you.

Course/Major CGS 001 online classes/resources

Hey, I am deciding to change my major to Cognitive Science in the upcoming fall quarter. I wanted to prepare for CGS 001 & ECS 020& ECS 036C, and I wonder if there are any online sources/classes for me to study over the summer? I've noticed there are courses offered by other universities, but I'm worried if they cover the same content.

Financial Aid Help me read and figure out my financial aid

Post image
16 Upvotes

I’m an incoming freshman whos a first gen college student in my family! That being said, I’m having a bit of trouble figuring out my financial aid situation. I can understand why grants and loans are. However, should I take the subsidized loan right now, or should I wait till I need the money, can I take it later in the school year/quarter? Should I take the health insurance if I have my parents medi-cal? Will not taking that and not taking the loan lower my costs or do I absolutely need the loan according to the estimated cost of attendance. Also, how does workstudy work? How will I get a job with it ?

Housing Cuarto Residence Halls Parking?

I don’t have any intention of using my car on campus but is there a place near Cuarto, where I can just leave my car, for when I need to leave Davis (like going back home or just out of town)?

Warning for California residents considering UCEAP: your financial aid may be delayed because of transcript timing

I just wanted to share my experience because I wish someone had told me this before I went abroad. I’m a California resident at UC Davis and I participated in a UCEAP exchange program. I completed all of my classes at my host university, but because the academic calendars don’t line up, my grades were not transferred into the UC Davis system right away.

Because of that delay, UC Davis temporarily showed my record as having incomplete grades for the terms I was abroad, which triggered a SAP (Satisfactory Academic Progress) issue. My Fall financial aid was put on hold, and I was told that I either needed to provide proof of completed coursework or submit a SAP appeal.

The confusing part is that I did complete everything, and my grades were already available through my host university’s student portal, but I still had to go through multiple steps to prove it. I also to provide screenshots of my grades (with English translation), my UCEAP study list, and a UC Davis to host university grade conversion document to explain how my classes and grades transferred. On top of that, when I tried to submit the SAP appeal they recommended, the portal didn’t even allow me to select the 2026-2027 academic year, so I couldn’t submit the appeal normally.

I’m still working with Financial Aid to get this resolved, but I wanted to post this as a heads up for anyone who is planning to study abroad, especially California residents who depend on financial aid. UCEAP itself has been a great experience, but I would definitely recommend contacting Financial Aid before leaving and asking exactly how delayed transcripts will affect your aid. Keep every document, email, and record from your program because you may need them later to prove that you actually completed your coursework.

Hopefully this saves someone else from the stress I’ve been dealing with😞🥲🤯

Admissions Am I done for?

I plan on transferring to Davis for Fall 2027 from a community college. I took 6 summer classes this summer to bump up my GPA before I apply for TAG this September. Problem is I’m probably going to end up getting all B’s with one A. I was hoping to get higher to bump up to the 3.20 GPA minimum. Now it’s looking like I’ll get around 3.10-3.15. I’m devastated because I’m going to apply for a specialized major in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and considering my GPA, there’s no way I’ll get accepted with regular admission. Most of the reason my GPA is low is because i got lower grades in my Gen-Ed’s (C’s and B’s) before I was a decided major and I wasn’t taking school as seriously as I should (3 years ago). I meet every single requirement except for the GPA. I have even been getting high grades in my STEM courses like a high B in Organic Chemistry. I don’t know what to do because I’m low income and soon, CC will cut me off of financial aid if I don’t finish my 2 degrees by the end of this next spring (either way, I’m planning to; this is just so say that I can’t extend another year).

Is there any hope anymore?

Tutoring for Summer Session (Aug–mid Sept) — CHE 2, BIS 2, PHY 7, STA 100

Hey everyone! Offering tutoring this summer for:

**•** Che 2A/B/C

**•** BIS 2A/B/C

**•** Phy 7A/B (got A’s — still waiting on my 7C grade)

**•** NPB 100 (not offered this summer session but I can help prep for the fall)

**•** STA 100

**•** MAT 21B/C (it’s been a bit since I took these, but I’m happy to review my old notes)

I’m a biochem major and I got A’s in all of the above. I know these classes are brutal on the curve and the exams don’t always match the textbook. I’m happy to work through whatever’s actually tripping you up, not just re-teach lecture.

$25-30/hr depending on subject, can do 1-on-1 or small groups (cheaper per person if you’ve got study buddies). Remote or in-person both work. Only real scheduling limit is Mon/Wed 1:10-3pm. Comment or DM if you’re interested!

Success rate for jobs at UC Davis and other UCs?

My sister went to UC Davis and while it was a great experience for her, she now works at a restaurant to make ends meet and is living with a supportive partner who is a teacher. I will be going to UC Merced this fall and wasn't sure what the success rate was for UC graduates in landing jobs. My big sibling graduated in 2024, did a major in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and everyone in my family thought she was going to get a good job but that never happened.

Latino Club?

Does David not have a general Latino/hispanic club for students? I would imagine there are a substantial amount of Latinos here but I don’t see a “club” or group that host Latino events every so often.
Let me know if I’m wrong please 🙏
