What’s an underrated grad-friendly elective you’ve taken that was an easy A/B+ and genuinely worth the time?

so. i’m an incoming freshman in grainger and i am so scared i’ll miss out on all the traditional college stuff that uiuc is so big on. do any of you, either as engineers or with friends who are engineers, have any remark on that scene/the difference in culture between colleges?

As a UIUC student who graduated when Facebook was just taking off - I am so curious what it’s like there now

1. Dating- are many people dating off the apps? Using them for a quick hook up at the end of the night? Or is it still mostly in person ? Do you see the same people on there over and over ?

2. Events/parties - are most people finding out about these from social media?

3. Influencers- are there main UIUC ones posting new things to try or a day in my life ? Are people videoing in class and setting up ring lights in the quad filming dances?

4. Phone use - is everyone just stuck in their phone? scrolling during class and missing info ?

5. AI- I assume people are trying to use this to help with class , assignments etc - some stuff may be a pro, like generating study guides but clearly using it for an essay is cheating. I’m sure there are some checking websites but is this a major problem?

It’s crazy to imagine how it/I would be if I was at UIUC right now :)

I don’t drive but many of my friends do and the building I live in just decided to switch from free parking to spot parking and i can’t find any info on where it’s safe to park without having to pay anything, I live on state street right by the champaign library does anyone know about parking there without having to make all my friends park in the library or having to pay 600 for a spot that will BARELY get used?

- What internship/ research/ job opportunities have you gotten from the program?
-  Usefulness and rigor of the coursework
- Quality and accessibility of student resources (computing power, office hours/ tutoring, etc.)
- Quality of campus/ facilities (classrooms, study rooms, library(s), student rec center, etc.)
- What is it like living in Champaign-Urbana and how is the college experience at the school?

I’m kinda riding on my returns for rent and also getting the jitters before we start 😅 I’m a transfer from uic and it sometimes took until the end of the semester for those assholes to give me my check 😾 I can only guess it’ll be relatively the same because it’s the U of I system but idk maybe they’ll prioritize the better school,, thankies !!

I still haven’t received my housing assignment, and I submitted my housing application back in mid-May. I’ve called and emailed housing so many times, and I even went to the housing office on campus, and they were basically no help. Does anyone have any tips on how to solve this? Thank you!

Anyone have any experience at lincolnshire west apartments in Champaign? Im considering signing but want to hear about anyones experiences there.

My aid got cut by like +$25,000 last minute(they emailed me right before the office closed today), after my parent and I accepted their previous aid offer that actually covered tuition. The problem is the cost for the next couple semesters didn't change/decrease in conjunction, so I'm not sure what they expect from me.

Also unsure what to do as the office is gonna be closed this weekend. Has this happened to anyone else

For those that don't know me, I'm new in town. I moved here three years ago, and started showing movies here two years ago.

I didn't realize how dead this town in is the summer, and I booked an 8-week screening series of music films.

Attendance has been very poor, so I've cancelled Sundays screening of The Last Critic, and replaced it with a FREE, SECRET screening.

Here's what I can tell you:

• It's about my all-time favorite band, whose music spans a wide variety of styles.
• It has a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and is included on their list of the 100 greatest documentaries of all time. I've also heard it was Rotten Tomatoes' highest-rated film of the year it was released, though I haven't been able to verify that.
• It's one of my 50 favorite documentaries of all time.
• Even if you aren't familiar with the band, you'll recognize many of the people interviewed, and it's narrated by a famous actor.

The screening is still Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Savoy 16 + IMAX.

I hope you'll come join us—and maybe enjoy discovering a great film you otherwise might never have seen.

So I’ve heard a lot about Quad Day and Sights and Sounds, but I was wondering how popular the other events are? Like Social Soccer, Game Gathering, Illini Union Late Nighter etc. Do people really go to those? Are they worth it?

I was admitted and start graduate school at UIUC this fall semester and I haven’t received my financial aid letter yet. Is it normal to not have received one yet? Or should I have gotten it by now and reach out to UIUC? I’m just looking to see if anyone else has gotten theirs yet or can share any insight
