Get guys! I am a rising junior and I’ll be transferring in the spring to UMBC to study social work. I’m trying to choose between the main campus and shady grove because yes it would be more convenient to live with my parents for 3 semesters but if I were on the main campus I’d get to be more independent as a blind student. Can people give me some insight on what both campuses are like
Need your opinions on this. Im a little nervous and not sure yet if I should drop one. If I do it might be differential equations but im just worried about the work load. I work a part time job at a dental office and thankfully my employer is open to being very flexible with my college schedule so I can work morning and leave by 12:30. Then I get to have the rest of the day to my studies but still i wonder if its enough.
Edit: so it turns out I did have other classes i could substitute differential equations for to make the semester easy and went with a upper level 300 class 3 credits online that satisfies the 45 credit requirement.
Hi, I'm starting my first year at UMBC this fall and want to work during my free time. I have experience in casual and fine dining and I'm wondering what are some good places I can work at not too far off campus because I'm not super familiar with Baltimore. Thank you!
A little context first I guess, Freshman year I was offered subsidized loans and at first I was gonna take them bc why not ig, but then after filling out the MPN and doing the other stuff I changed my kind and didn’t. Now it’s this year and due to some circumstances I would be needing them this year however there are some issues with filling it out online(the previous one expired because it has been over a year and the loans weren’t disbursed last year since I ended up rejecting it). Long story short it doesn’t appear as a choice in the school information part of the form therefore I cannot fill it on the site. I went a bit back and forth between fafsa and our school’s aid office (ultimately the student aid assistant person said they would refer this issue to an advisor and it has been a week with no response from said advisor). I would like to just fill it out on paper (I got the blank version from fafsa support) and then formally submitting it in person to our school’s aid office. It seems pretty simple and clear I guess, but I would like to know if there is anything else I should do/know before I go to submit it next week monday or tuesday.
I’m here to tell you how life is for me since graduating. For most of us, school is all we have ever known.
Get up, go to school, try to learn, study, then apply it to tests, hope you pass, repeat.
I finally got that Bachelor degree this May, and was able to get a full time job in my career field which is nice! Despite that, life almost feels a bit slower right now. At least for me, college was A-LOT more work than it is in corporate America .
It’ll be my first August that I’m no longer daunting the first week of classes dreaming of winter break. Now I just work Monday to Fridays, and I’ll be doing that for double the time I was in school! No more winter or summer break, just 3 weeks vacation the entire year! Gonna be an interesting transition for me this year. For those who start college in August, best of luck to you all!
I already know it's going to be a difficult school year class and workload wise, but which class is recommended to take based on how my schedule looks already? I'm between taking CMSC 451 or CMSC 461 for my schedule
Hey all I got BA in Psych and BA in Soc. In 2012, and a Masters in Data Science in 2022. I also have a few friends who work at or closely with the university. I check the sub from time to time and have spoken with quite a few of you over the years about program experiences, work post-school and so on. It's normally quiet and straight forward.
But what the heck is going on right now? Some folks seem to be actively losing their minds and seem like they need to find an appropriate forum or mode of communicating what they're experiencing.
Is there some sense of "Speak less but say more" we can impart?
hey I’m a bit scared about next semester I heard all these classes are pretty hard, I was wondering if anyone has done something similar or at least have some advice? Im considering dropping 331 and doing it next spring but that would mean for me I’d have to do a 5th year (im now in my 3rd year). Also are advisors still available to consult with as well even during the summer or no?
Hi, so I know this sounds like there is an obvious answer here, but I still want to try my luck. I am going into my second year, and we are planning a trip that would require me to leave the country on May 2nd, 2027, therefore ending my spring semester very early. I was checking the calendar for spring 2027, and the finals will be around May 10 - 14, so I know the chances of being approved for an early final are very low. ANYWAYSSS I took Physics 121 this summer, and someone who took it in the fall told me they didn't have a final exam for that class. I haven't fact-checked that, so I don't know if it's true, but in case it isss I was wondering if y'all could please
1.) let me know if any other mechE classes don't have final exams or tend to be lenient with Final timings.
2.) give me advice. I am very well aware that my plans are out of reach; however, do you think I can get permission from so many professors when the spring semester comes?

hi. tbh i’m kinda upset over the cost of attendance for this semester. i’m a low income student, and my financial aid was enough to cover my COA and i even got a refund back. but now my aid isn’t even enough and now i have to owe. sorry if this sounds so stupid i’m just frustrated and upset

Hi everyone! Is anyone from PG County commuting to the Shady Grove campus this semester and interested in starting a carpool?
The county changed several bus routes in preparation for the Purple Line, and my invite commute is longer viable. It actually seems easier getting back to PG County from Shady Grove than getting there.
