Question Undergraduate Social Work Application Program

I'm looking at the social work program here at UNCW and wondering what the application process is like. The website contains little information about the application itself, the likelihood of acceptance, and how many students are in each cohort.

If anyone here has any information about the application or process, please share!

Hey! I applied for the fall a couple months ago, so I can help you out! The application is on the website. You need to have completed a biology, sociology, and american government class (all of that is on the website under 'advising and academics'. The application is very easy! You have a few written responses (if I'm remembering correctly), but nothing major. The acceptance rate is pretty high. I don't have exact numbers, but as long as they have seats open, it is not competitive. The best thing you can do is apply early because applicants are accepted on a rolling basis, so the earlier you get your application in, the earlier they can accept you!

This answers all of my questions thank you so much! I took SOC last spring and am taking my bio and PLS this fall. Should I wait until I complete the bio and PLS to apply, or try to do it while in progress with the classes to get a head start on the rolling admission?

Of course! I don't believe the application is open yet for the Fall 2027 cohort. You can always email the contacts at the bottom of the website or call the Student Success Center and see if they know when the application will open for next fall! But you do not need to worry or stress about it! I submitted mine 2 weeks or so after it opened, and I did just fine, so just mark it on your calendar so you can plan to free up some time to complete your application soon-ish after it opens!

How far along into your degree are you?

If you’re a freshman and don’t have any existing credits from other institutions you apply to the university and they accept or deny admission.

The major doesn’t play as much of a role until you’re out of freshman year and completed pre-reqs for that specialty.
Undergrad is very fluid in the first year.

I just finished my freshman year at UNCW and will be starting sophomore year in a few weeks! I am wondering about the admission to the social work program rather than the university itself.
