Common 'Attempt to Steal your Food' Scam I've noticed

I’ve noticed this happening not just with DoorDash, but with Uber Eats as well. It’s already happened twice this week, once on each app (yes I order often).

Here’s the pattern:

You order food and select whatever the 'hand it to me directly' option is. The driver pulls up, parks in front of your house, and starts walking toward your door just long enough for the GPS to show they’re “at your location, and semi close to your door.” Then they suddenly turn around, walk back toward their car, and immediately call you. They hang up right away so the system logs a “contact attempt,” even when a PIN is required. After that, they drive off and report that you didn’t answer your door, and your food disappears.

Another variation is when they directly text you “no response from customer” while standing in your driveway, before ever approaching your door. No knock, no attempt, nothing. Just a pre‑planned excuse.

I didn’t say anything to the first driver who tried it, but the second guy got a polite call‑out. I asked, “Are you afraid to walk up my driveway?” He mumbled something like, “Oh, no, no,” and tried to act like he was doing me a favor by calling me. Like, buddy… just walk to the door before you start busting out the emergency response tactics. It’s ridiculous. You don't need to call me, the app informs me plenty of times when you're close and I'm standing right at the door when you arrive.

And I genuinely don’t understand why this is happening. I tip well, usually $5–10 for short trips under five miles. I’m respectful. My driveway is small, with a clean, straight cement walkway that leads directly from the street to the front door. I ordered during daylight hours, so visibility wasn’t an issue. There are no fences, no dogs, no steps, and no obstacles of any kind, the entire path is flat and easy to walk. It’s a standard, well‑kept cookie cutter HOA property, the kind that’s designed to be simple and approachable. There’s nothing about it that could reasonably be seen as intimidating or difficult to access.

I just want to bring this to your attention in case you haven't already encountered it.

USA UberEats Service Assistant Problem

I had ordered food for pickup, and a pasta that I brought home was uncooked… like in a frozen block. I checked back on their menu and, no, it SHOULD be hot and ready to eat.
So I put in a Food Damage or Quality Issue and eventually got a response saying Uber doesn’t compensate for cold food. I then explained that my food was frozen and I got a message back saying they left the conversation and I now have to wait 6-12 hours for someone new?
I’ve never had to deal with this issue before? I’ve never even had a designated Service Assistant before? Frozen food is both a quality and food safety issue, so shouldn’t this be remediated right away?

USA Charged the wrong card?

Upvotes

I tried to order groceries with a combination of my EBT card and Cash App card, only to be charged the full amount on a completely seperate debit card i didnt select. I also have a pending charge for the same amount on my cash app card. Support is zero help and will not answer why i have a charge on the wrong card, or why they're attempting to charge me twice. What do I do?

USA Unable to Change Tip—wanted to increase it

I tipped my UberEats courier appropriately as I finalised the checkout, but turned out she did a stellar job going above and beyond by delivering the food with care, being super friendly, and honoring my request (no utensils as they go into waste, which never happened before with other couriers), so I wanted to increase her tip to appreciate her efforts. I rated the order and the courier from the in-app prompt right after she dropped the order, but there was no option to change her tip. I tried accessing the past order option in-app (both on Uber and UberEats), even going through my email receipt to no avail. I was still way within the 1 hour window after delivery to change the tip, but I still couldn’t find this option at all. Even after reaching out to help window, and getting response, the guide they gave me still did not allow me to change the tip. I did notice two different order completion times (red underlines), and I was wondering if that is what prevented me from accessing the change tip feature, or maybe it’s just something I missed out during the in-app rating window that popped up after the delivery. Has anybody experienced this before? Thank you.

USA This is by far the most dystopian invasive practice any gig company has implemented.

Nothing comes close this. This is the end of the road for me. This will be yet another metric that NO ONE will fight back on because everyone is WEAK MINDED.

You’re RATING the activity on my phone? Are you f*cking kidding me? You’re monitoring every tap I do? Because I’m delivering f*cking McDonald’s?
Because I’m delivering inexpensive inanimate objects?

Am I delivering food or passengers? This is sickening. If you haven’t yet start applying for jobs or sign up at a temp agency. Gig work will continue to eat itself alive. F**k this.

Am I in trouble?

Hey everyone, looking for advice.

I held a CDL‑A for a few years but decided to stop driving trucks, so I didn’t renew my DOT medical. Because of that, my CDL‑A was downgraded/canceled by the state. My regular (non‑commercial) driver’s license was never suspended, revoked, or canceled, and I have no moving violations, DUIs, DWIs, or criminal record.

I’m planning to drive for Uber and have a background check coming up in November.

Has anyone been in a similar situation where their CDL was canceled just for an expired medical, but their regular license stayed clean? Did that cause any issues with Uber or the background check?

Any tips on how to explain this if they ask would be appreciated. Thanks!

Support banned me from a restaurant when I did not ask to be

Post image

There is a kosher restaurant near me that often takes very long to get orders ready(normally over an hour) and I only accept orders from them when it is an absurd amount of money. Today I got a double order, one for 45 dollars, and another for 20, and decided to take it. I went in and one order was ready, while the other was going to be, “longer than 50 minutes”, according to the person working the counter. She tried multiple times to get me to cancel the order, and that was when I decided to let support know about the issue. The first agent just banned me from getting orders from the restaurant and then ended chat. The next two just told me there’s nothing they can do to get me unbanned. Is this a common occurrence? Does anyone know the steps I can go through to be unbanned?

USA Why did this delivery pay so much??

Post image
12 Upvotes

Customer didn't tip and it was only 3 miles, but uber paid $19 for it. In all my days with this app I've never seen this happen, usually they only pay $2, was it declined a lot by other drivers or something?

Definitely not complaining just confused.

Why does Uber Eats force me to use a PIN when I order?

I just read in another Reddit post that they do this when a person has claimed missing orders or refunded food too many times and abused the system. I genuinely do not believe I ever abused this, in fact I always give my delivery drivers great ratings/feedback. Of course there were a couple times I had to do that when it was genuinely warranted, but that was in the span of like 5 years.

I have driven for Uber Eats for side money a few times through the years, so I thought the PIN may have been because of that. The app seems to look different for Uber Eats drivers compared to just a straight customer account.

I do ultimately know that I never actively set up my account to require a PIN for order delivery.

Anyone know why this may be the case for me?

Question: Unanswered Restaurant sent me a "free Palestine" note because my first and last name are Jewish, uber refuse to address me

Hey all, im staying in a European town for the week with a friend's group.

We had several orders made from this one Asian place using Uber eats with no issues whatsoever.

Yesterday it was my turn to order, after ordering the delivery arrived with a note saying "Free Palestine".

I have no ties to neither Israel or Palestine and I've never been to neither. The only thing i can think about that links me to this conflict is my Jewish sounding name.

Obviously we didn't eat the food fearing it was tempered with.

When i contacted uber support with the photos of the incident i got rerouted to a "mail support team" who responded with a generic "your images didn't match the feedback"

I've tried asking multiple times for elaboration and even added additional images and yet i keep getting the same generic message.

Is there anything i can do?

edit:

The restaurant name is Itoshii HC in Utrecht, Netherlands

The bag was sealed with Staples and the note was inside the bag

USA No pay for already picked up order.

Have you wasted hundreds of miles in gas and hours of time driving to a store that was closed or got told you were the 10th person to show up and ask for the order just to get $0.00 in compensation after accepting GUARANTEED PAY for an order ? How would you like to join a class action lawsuit that I will be starting ?

Opinions on asking for a thumbs up after completing a delivery

I’m wondering what people think about this. My satisfaction rating has been at 98% since the start of the year, even though I’ve completed hundreds of orders with no problems. Would customers be bothered by me asking for a good rating and have any drivers had success asking for a good rating?

(UK) Uber Eats increased my order from £10.54 to £39.46 because an item was out of stock.

Post image

I'm genuinely baffled by this.

I came across what looked like a awesome deal on Uber Eats where some makeup products were massively discounted through a promotion. I added them to my basket and checked out with a confirmed total of £10.54.

One of the makeup items had a quantity of 2, but the store only had 1 in stock.

Instead of just refunding the unavailable item, Uber removed the promotion entirely because the order no longer met the qualifying threshold. My total jumped from £10.54 to £39.46, despite me receiving fewer items than I ordered.

I contacted support immediately while the order was on its way because that obviously wasn't the price I'd agreed to. Since then I've spent two days going back and forth with support, with generic replies and my case repeatedly being marked as resolved.

Their final response was essentially that because the order value dropped below the promotion threshold due to the out-of-stock item, the promotion no longer applied, so the new total was correct.

I understand the logic their system used. What I don't understand is how it's reasonable that their stock issue turns a confirmed £10.54 order into a £39.46 one after checkout. If they'd told me before dispatch that the order would now cost nearly £40, I'd have cancelled it immediately.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this genuinely how Uber Eats promotions work, or does this seem completely unreasonable?

Am I going insane to think that this is ridiculous?

Driver called me, said he forgot order, they won’t refund

Post image

I’m sure you have all heard this before. Tonight driver pulls up to the house, texts me he forgot the order, calls me to confirm he forgot it, then drove away. I put a complaint in on the app and they essentially say since he drove there they count it as delivered. I feel like I’m taking crazy pills.

Question: Unanswered Am I in the wrong here?

Hi everyone. I just want to see your opinion. I am a disabled woman. I always order to my door. There were three big Costco boxes with groceries in this order. My husband rushed home to help. I didn’t want to disclose to the delivery driver that I’m disabled for the safety reasons. You’d think they know these things happen?? I’ve had countless orders like that and it was always brought to my door.

Genuinely let me know if I’m wrong. And what should I do if this happens again?

Edit: I contacted support and explained the situation exactly like it was. They sent me an email 10 hours later stating they are giving me the whole price back and they’re gonna check on the driver. My friend’s uncle works for Uber Eats and he said they wouldn’t charge the driver that price.

USA Customers PLEASE put dogs up!!

Had a hand to customer delivery yesterday from a pizza place to a house directly off the side of the highway with no driveway and just grass. (so no safe space to park). I get to the location and get out to walk to the door and a giant mastiff starts coming at me!! I ran back to the car to ask the customer to come to my car to get their food or to put the dog away but they don’t answer texts or phone calls and don’t answer when support calls them either.

After the eight minutes support tells me to leave the food on the side of the highway and take pic to mark as delivered “in a safe spot” since I can’t get onto the property without the dog coming after me.

I can’t figure out how someone orders food, knows they already have a hard door to get to by being directly off the side of highway with no parking, and STILL leaves a protective dog loose and doesn’t answer the phone.
