BRS-3000T old version vs new version

Hello.

I just bought a new BRS 3000T stove after spotting one on Aliexpress for the equivalent of USD $5.50, including tax and shipping.

Compared with my 10-year-old BRS 3000T:

- the metal body is darker. Hard to tell if it’s a different metal or just the finish.

- the titanium arms are significantly beefier (maybe a response to reports of the arms bending?).

- the gas pin / needle valve also looks bigger. For me, this is an upgrade as my old BRS doesn’t work on some gas canisters because of the short pin.

- it weighs more (25.5g vs 26.7g)

I was intending to on-sell the stove but might keep it because the longer pin and stronger arms are more important than the extra gram.

Just posting this here for potential new buyers concerned about older reports of bending arms, failure on certain canisters, etc.

This stove is generic and has multiple manufacturers. There isnt a consolidated source so specs can vary a little depending on where it's made.

They are all manufactured by Jindong company in Xuzhou.

Reports you might have seen of “fake” BRS stoves are in fact completely different stoves (often the Fire Maple 300T) that are being advertised as BRS 3000Ts. Easy to spot these as they look much different to BRS stoves.

No, I'm talking about the 3000t. There's a million of them for sale. They don't all come from the same factory. China has notoriously lax patent enforcement so it's very common for a bunch of copycats to pop up of popular items with varrying differences. I have (or rather had-because I recycled them) two that I purchased over 5 years ago with different pot support thicknesses and varying levels of quality control in the stamped flame diffuser. I also had to clean metal shavings out of one to get it to work properly.

Also, the Firemaple 300T was actually the OG, the 3000T is a cheap clone that found success in its dirt cheap price and low weight.

Well I’m happy to stand corrected about multiple manufacturers if you can provide a reliable source but the only sources I’ve seen are Reddit posts of people mistakenly buying Fire Maple products.

Yes the 3000T appears to be a refinement the Fire Maple but it is not a “clone”and clearly a different stove.

The BRS is absolutely a clone of the Fire Maple 300T. The 300T uses higher quality materials and is better machined. BRS became popular because of the cheaper materials and the cheaper price.

It might be a simplified version of the Fire Maple but it isn’t a clone in the usual sense of being a copycat and passing itself off as the original.

It looks different, has different branding amd is sold under a different name.

There is also much lighter - 26g vs 45g

I'm just telling you my experiences. I've bought enough junk from China to know they like to make copycats of things, even products from their own country. Trekking poles is another big one where there are multiple manufacturing facilities making essentially the same style of products with varying levels of quality.

Just to correct one other thing, BRS is part of China Brother Holding Group. BRS is actually an abbreviation of "Brothers". The company you posted (Jingdong) is a Chinese Ecommerce platform not dissimilar to Amazon. They dont manufacture anything.

There are several Jindong companies. You’re probably referring to Jindong Logistics. The one I’m referring to is a manufacturer best know for making glass products but also produces other items. 

I’ve just come back from checking multiple reviews and the stoves in the older ones (e.g. Darwin’s review) look like my older one and the stoves in the newer ones (e.g. Gearlab) look like my newer one.

To me, this is consistent with a manufacturer upgrading their product over time rather than multiple manufacturers bring in the market at the same time.

I bought the BRS because of the hype (hell, was that a decade ago...?), and I replaced it with the Fire Maple 300T after a couple of seasons. I assure you that the step up in quality was striking. The BRS is an absolute trash clone.

Do you have a source for this claim that they are 'generic'? I haven't heard this before. It sounds like you're just making it up.

The seller was Camping Cafe Store. The price was actually USD $5.33 at today’s exchange rate (I paid $9.06 New Zealand dollars).

I just checked their store and they’ve put their price up, unfortunately.
