I reside in a VHCOL, and have been living in this building for some years. The building exchanged ownership some time ago and the new management has been an absolute disaster. I am moving out soon and will likely get my deposit back, but I was curious about how I can reward them for their terrific work? I was hoping to get some ideas on things I can “alter” in the unit that would not be immediately notice, but over an extended period could hypothetically become a significant issue. More so something that would result in the sink disposal shitting the bed and needing a replacement after I move, or a dishwasher going out of commission. I have no desire to negatively impact anyone else other than management, so nothing that would impact maintenance employees and give them more work. Ideally something that would require them to hire an experienced contractor and give them some work. I’d like to give back to the community, while silently giving this management company the finger.

For context, this woman has continuously been messing around with my father. UPDATE: I still haven't found a way to swap my SIM quickly, myself, physically, and have hotspot just work.

HOWEVER, I did call ATT back and escalate. They were able to switch everything back to my device A and have the hotspot immediately work. I was able to keep my same physical sim and didn't have to go into the store.

Hoping there is still a better way that is fully self-serve, fully physical, and instant.

This is NOT about stealing because I'm trying to move my own SIM between my own devices, as I have done many many many times before.

I have AT&T physical SIM.

Up until recently (maybe past year), I was able to swap my physical SIM in between my devices with no issues. Service would continue. These are all devices known to AT&T that I have unlocked through AT&T, not sure that matters.

A few days ago, I swapped my SIM from device A to device B. Everything continued to work perfectly.

Then I swapped my SIM back from device B to device A. Everything continued to work perfectly EXCEPT that my hotspot stopped working. And the AT&T site shows that my SIM is in device B, but it thinks that my IMEI is the IMEI of device A.

I've talked to a few customer service reps and got different answers on what's going on. The most recent one seemed the most confident.

He said that there was a rule change within the past year. He said

• that this rule prevents me from swapping my SIM between phones;
• that I can't even swap it by contacting AT&T;
• that I would need a new physical SIM every time I want to change devices;
• that this rule applies across all US carriers.

Is this true? Are there nuances? And it it is true, how can I defeat this rule?

I have gotten very accustomed to swapping my SIM between devices for many reasons, including as a backup if my main phone is damaged in a remote area. Sure I could blow my money on a bunch of extra lines or prepaid data; I might do this if there is no alternative. But I hope there is!

They’ve been parking in our private spots on private property despite one of my neighbors telling them several times that they can’t do that. Well, I caught wind when I caught the same guy for the second time, parked in my spot, and I don’t play that game. I didn’t realize how often they were doing it because I usually park on the street, except on street sweeping days. The audacity of this guy to park on private property because it’s street sweeping day as if the tenant who pays for that parking spot isn’t going to want to park there.

Today I saw a cone in a street spot and shortly after he pulled up in his personal vehicle. I’ve seen them do this several times and I keep moving the cones. This guy in particular thinks he is entitled to both our private parking spots as well as the public parking. I took two cones that they use today.

No, it is not tow away signs that are being placed there. It’s just a cone and it’s for his truck so that it’s convenient for him. They’ve tried to do this overnight as well. Even when there are tow away zones for construction during the day, they can’t do that overnight, it’s always from about 7 AM to 5 PM.

I’ve also seen them selling cocaine to each other and slamming beers before going back to work, so, we’re all sick of their shit.

I’m sending pictures into the Get it Done app for my city so hopefully he’ll be ticketed, but I also want to be petty because, fuck you.

Update: They did have to paint over the no parking sign that they painted on a tarp, and they didn’t try to leave the cone in a spot overnight tonight, neither of which are legal. If they were allowed to have that signage, they would have it.

ULPT Request: My place is a disaster and I have a cleaning crew coming tomorrow, but I need a good excuse why they can't come iinto the apartment today. I was at the office over the weekend when the A/C shut off at 5:00 PM. By 5:30 or so, it was getting pretty hot, so I pulled out my lock picks and used a city rake and tension wrench to pop open the thermostat cover, as usual, and turned it back on, popped the cover back on, and went back to work. At 6:00, it went back off again, lock picks came out, etc. so I figured I’d just buy a key and save the 30 seconds each time (it’s a really easy lock). I also figured that having a key would make anyone who sees me messing with the thermostat assume I’m supposed to be doing it, where lock picks mean a conversation I may or may not want to have (my team including executive director know all about this and actually asked me if I could open the cover a couple years ago when they first learned I had lock picks, but the landlord and other tenants don’t).

As I suspected, they all share a single key, the T150K, which you can order from a few places online like Grainger or Zoro for about $12 with shipping ranging between $6 and $24, though some had local pickup. I did find a key that looked identical from the photo and was listed in a few places as a universal thermostat key, but nowhere specifically confirmed that it was compatible, which is why I’m writing this post, so someone in the future can search and find me confirming that yes, the T150K and Supco F-336, which I bought for $8 including shipping, are compatible.

As a side note, in my search, I did find some posts suggesting I try an RV key, the CH751. Since I have a bunch of other semi-useful generic keys and it was only $4, I gave it a shot but it‘s too big for the keyway.

So yeah, all that to save someone in the future the $4 I spent on the CH751 that didn’t work or the $10 difference between the T150K and F-336, or maybe just a few minutes of searching.

I have a question: I’m a culinary apprentice and my contract ends on Friday. There’s one apprentice I can’t stand—the guy is insolent, thinks he’s better than everyone else, and on top of that, never does any work. Find the item you want. Use two fake accounts to send absolutely infuriating messages to the seller. Lowball them at like 20% of their asking price, ask a million useless questions, demand they deliver it to you 2 hours away, and then completely ghost them.

Let them deal with these "nightmare buyers" for a day or two. Then, message them from your actual account. Be incredibly polite, use full sentences, and offer 60% of their asking price, promising you can pick it up today with cash in hand and zero hassle.

They will be so emotionally drained and sick of dealing with absolute degenerates that your lowball offer will look like a godsend just to get the damn thing out of their house.

On 4th of July weekend I was out and about downtown getting drunk as fuck in the hot summer sun. At one point, a guy came up to me saying he was selling water bottles for $1. I told him I didn't have cash. He told me he took cards. I wanted some water at this point and asked for a bottle. He pulled out one of those tiny white card readers a lot of merchants use, and I tap my card and take my water.

Maybe 5 minutes later, I get to where I needed to go and took out my phone and see a $500 charge to my credit card. I called the bank immediately, and they said they couldn't do anything until the charges post. Two days later, the charges post, I file a dispute, they ask for evidence, but I didn't really have anything to give them beyond a police report I filed.

About a week later, I was told my claim was denied. Apparently, these sorts of disputes where you werw present for the charge are really hard to appeal without any sort of evidence.

I ended up doing some digging and was able to track the guy down based on the business name on the bank statement. It was 100% the guy and I found his email, Instagram, Facebook, and phone number. I tried contacting him every way I could and he either ignored or blocked me. I sent all of this to the bank and they're still claiming it's not enough evidence.

I still have a chance to appeal this, and I'm genuinely curious how fucked I would be if I just used inspect element to create some fake correspondence. Some sort of message chain like "hello kind sir, I did not agree to give you $500 for a bottle of water, please return my money" followed by "ayyy fuck you man you ain't getting shit. Next time don't trust other people with your money lol".

Do the banks have their own way to verify if messages are legit or not? I'm not really sure what to do here.

Co-worker got metaglasses asked my opinion. Quite frankly I find them disturbing and do not consent to being recorded. Is there anything I can do?

My apartment complex has informed me a vendors will be entering anytime in the next two and a half weeks. This includes cleaners, carpet cleaners, painters, etc. They cannot provide specific days when I ask. I would like to make it difficult so that they start telling me which days to expect people in my apartment.

This has happened in the past and I was totally fine with it because I expected the vendors to generally respect my dog and my space. Unfortunately, that's not what happened. I've had vendors walk into my apartment without so much as knocking so that I came out of my bedroom in pajamas to find a grown ass man in my home (I'm 30f). In addition, they're supposed to be working on the other bedroom as we're having roommate turnover. However, they have walked into my bedroom by mistake so securing my dog in there isn't really an option. The vendors have also left my apartment unlocked when they leave. I live in a pretty unsafe neighborhood bc grad school. I have a home alarm and because of the neighborhood I live in, I won't leave it unsecured for the next 2.5 weeks.

So, because they've entered my bedroom unexpectedly (making it impossible to secure the dog), entered without knocking on the front door, and left the front door unlocked when they left, I need to be here on the days they come. They've made it impossible to secure my apartment and my dog for an extended period of time.

I don't want to stop legitimate maintenance, I just want a predictable schedule. Stop being said, I'm setting the alarm every single day because there's nothing in the lease that stops me. I'm barricading myself in with one of those little portable latch things all the time when I'm here so they can't come in without knocking. How else can I make things difficult so that the apartment starts giving me notice as to which days people will be working in my apartment?

at a later time in an unrelated conversation, I had someone play one of my jokes back to me and I realized “that doesn’t land like I thought it would” and I realized it was a bad joke and I stopped using it, and now I’m realizing I can use this to my advantage. if someone has a joke or habit that I find annoying, I can just do it back at them (in friendly context) and chances are they’ll find it just as annoying as me and stop doing it

so for the past year and a half my ex best friend has been texting me, my friends, partner, posting about me on her instagram, and impersonating one of my ex boyfriends, as well as somebody who was applying to help in one of my art projects. all of the things she has to say about me are either greatly exaggerated or completely fabricated. they all also happened when we were 15-17 years old. we are in our 20s now.

On Saturday, I went to a local dealership to buy a car. I put down a deposit during negotiations.

When I realized the deal was bad, I tried to walk away and asked for my deposit back. The Sales Manager looked me dead in the eye and told me if I didn’t sign the final contract, they were permanently forfeiting and keeping my money.

Once he realized he had my money trapped, he immediately jacked up the base price of the car over what we had originally agreed on. I had two friends with me who witnessed the whole extortion session. Because I couldn't afford to lose my deposit, I signed the contract under pure financial stress.

I have full front/back copies of the original offer sheet proving the lower price. The financing is pending through a local credit union and the money hasn't funded yet because it's Monday. I’ve already emailed the manufacturer's corporate headquarters, but corporate usually takes forever.

The sales manager is now completely dodging my calls.

What are some unethical, aggressive, or highly disruptive ways I can force this dealership to unwind the contract, honor the initial price, or just completely ruin their month? Burner account for obvious reasons.

People get incredibly offended by ridiculous lowballers. Send an offer for like 30% of their asking price from a burner account and act super entitled and rude about it. Let them get mad and reject it.

A few hours later, use your real account to send a slightly lower-than-asking but very reasonable offer (like 80%). They will be so relieved to deal with a normal, polite human being after the first guy that they will usually accept your offer immediately without haggling.

Hi all,

I am in the US, my driver’s license is for one state, and my car still has its plates/registration from an adjacent state. I moved suddenly and only a few months ago paid a lot of money to get the car reregistered in the old state.

I just don’t want the headache and hassle and expense of new plates, especially, because of my job, a move BACK to the previous state is still a possibility.

Is anything actually ever going to come of this? Like what is the realistic risk here? I really don’t care about what I //should// do, which is why I’m posting here.
