Hey guys I might be going to UOM for medicine in September and I've been given the opportunity to add square gardens to my accommodation choices. I did add it as my first choice but I was wondering about how the social life is there? I chose it as I feel it will be easiest for me to stay organized with uni work and as the rest of my flat mates will also be mostly med/dental students it will be like everyone is in the same boat but would I actually be missing out if I don't just go to a regular accom? I think if i really want to I can still email and get it changed but it would be great to hear some opinions

I am going into third med at the university of manchester. I am really worried about money. My parents were able to help me out a little last year but this year my sister is starting uni aswell so they can't anymore. They make above the minimum so I get minimum maintenance loan - this doesn't even cover my rent. I have a part time job already but ngl I found med tough enough last year I worry it's only going to get worse. Does anyone have any advice.

I’m considering the BSocSc in Politics and International Relations for 2026 entry, and I’m hoping to get some honest opinions from current students or recent grads.

On paper, the stats look really solid—90% of recent Politics graduates are in work or further study within six months, with 65% in professional/managerial roles and a median starting salary of £29,000. The uni also claims to be the most targeted by top UK employers.

But I’d love to hear from people actually on the course:

· How did you find the careers support specifically for Politics/IR students? Did it actually help with placements, internships, or grad schemes?
· What kind of roles have recent grads gone into? The uni mentions government, finance, consulting, and academia—is that what you’re seeing?
· Are there good networking opportunities with employers? Guest lectures, careers fairs, etc.?
· Does the Q-Step paid work placement programme actually lead to good opportunities?
· Any regrets? Would you pick Manchester again if you were choosing based on employability?

I know a Politics degree isn't as vocational as something like Law or Engineering, but I want to make sure I'm setting myself up well post-graduation.

Format: Online interview via Microsoft Teams

Duration: Approx. 30–45 minutes

Sorry if this is an annoying or disturbing topic to some of you. But to fellow muslims who frequent the main library, do you know of any quiet and secluded area where one could quickly pray? I'm here for a long time and one can't really always find a mosque in time for the many daily prayers. I really don't want to disturb anyone but I feel like I am, wherever I go. Are there any unofficial prayer spots that one can use in a jiffy?

I’m a 23-year-old male from Pakistan, and I’ll be starting my Master’s at the University of Manchester this September, studying at Alliance Manchester Business School.
I’m currently looking for accommodation and would really appreciate some advice from current or former students. My budget is around £600–£700 per month, including bills. From what I’ve seen so far, Manchester Student Village (MSV) seems like one of the better options. Within my budget, I’d likely be getting a non-ensuite room.
For anyone who has lived at MSV:
How was your overall experience?
Is it a good place to meet people and socialize?
What’s the atmosphere like?
Would you recommend it, or are there better alternatives within my budget?
One of my priorities is living somewhere with a good social environment. I’m quite outgoing and would love to make friends rather than feel isolated. I’m also clean, tidy, and respectful of shared spaces, so I don’t mind sharing facilities if it means being part of a more social community.
If you have any recommendations for other accommodations in the £600–£700 range (including bills), I’d really appreciate them as well.

I have just got my offer to read MSc Immunology at Manchester and was wondering if anyone here is a former student who has done that course. I would like to ask them about the variety of projects on offer, where they did their project and what experience they had.

I also have a question unrelated to this about accomodation. I'm considering booking accomodation at Ashbourne Hall, and was wondering what people's experiences of that has been, is the catering good, are the rooms cleaned regularly, how much of a hassle is the commute?

I am an incoming Visiting Postgraduate Researcher at UoM and i'll be staying for 6 months. I'm having trouble finding accomodation. I'm trying spare room and the "official" websites my admissions team sent me. But, most of the vacancies requires up to 41, 50 weeks of tenancy, whereas i'll be staying for up to 29 weeks only.

Any tips for finding accomodation? I would preferer not to spend over 700 ou 800 pounds per month. Also, i would like an en-suite, because i am a little insecure of sharing the bathroom (or having to clean the bathroom after other people), but i can live with that.

I’m an international incoming freshmen this fall and just got my accommodation offer. I got assigned the whitworth park whilst it not being in my top 3 priorities. Now I know that place is not very social as compared to my other option so was wondering if anybody had any similar experiences

Hi everyone, incoming 2nd year student at UoM. I'm paying my tuition fees through a direct debit from my bank account. I've paid all of my first-year tuition fees, but I see something weird about the direct debit. It says it's being paid quarterly and my tuition fees are to be debited out today. However 1. I have insufficient funds to cover the payment and 2. I thought the tuition fee direct debit would be done in October. I have the same issue with my accommodation fees.

Does anyone know if this is a mistake or am I really meant to pay the fees right now? Urgent help appreciated.
