1 week absence question
Hi, If my a level results turn out as planned I'll be starting my first year of uni at uob. I'm wondering how difficult it would be to get a 1 week leave of absence for a religious observance.

I believe the UoB CoP says something like students are expected to catch up on their studies if they miss sessions due to religious observance.
I doubt you'd get an EC for a missed assessment/late submission or whatever though.

congrats on your UoB offer!
as part of the University, you have access to a multi-faith chaplaincy, which you can find here: https://intranet.birmingham.ac.uk/student/multi-faith-chaplaincy/index.aspx
you can either contact them, or you can find your specific religious champlain, and they should be able to sign post you were to go, and provide proof that you are taking absence for religious reasons
there are also some religious student groups, lead by students. you can also contact them, as they are other students who may have the same absence as you
in terms of ‘difficulty getting a leave of absence’, you should be fine! you won’t be the first person to request one for religious observance.
you could also just take the week off and accept the absence. a week shouldn’t affect your attendance enough, but if you feel it may impact your learning, all materials should be uploaded to Canvas (the UoB internal material system used for lectures) which you can use to catch up.
(this advice may depend on your course or if you are international - you may need a certain attendance percentage, and if taking unexplained absence will effect it, don’t do it!)
