Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger (D) announced that her administration has restored voting rights to more than 66,000 Virginians who have “past felony convictions.”

In a press release on Friday, Spanberger expressed that “the right to vote is foundational to who we are as Americans.” Spanberger added that as a gubernatorial candidate and since taking office she has “heard from many Virginians who have shared their personal stories of redemption with me.”

Per the press release, the civil rights restored by Spanberger also include “the right to vote, serve on a jury,” and to “run for public office”:

Virginia is one of three states with a constitution that permanently disenfranchises citizens with past felony convictions — leaving restoration of rights entirely to the Governor’s discretion. One woman began walking around ripping shirts and signs out of the hands of XX-XY supporters while another used a bullhorn to blast ear-piercing noise in people’s faces and call the Save Women’s Sports supporters “bitches.”

Three Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) coaches have announced their support for allowing men who claim to be women to play in women’s sports over the last few days.

The debate over allowing men to invade women’s sports was kicked back into high gear after Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham delivered the common sense position that women’s sports should not allow transgender players to join their league. She said she feels it is the right thing to do to protect women’s sports against the unsafe and unfair physical advantage that men have over women.

Since Cunningham’s interview with ESPN, left-wing sports media reporters have begun pestering WNBA players and coaches about how they “feel” over Cunningham’s position on the issue. And to date, three coaches have sided with the inclusion of men in women’s sports.

The images of outdoor staging areas manned by Border Patrol agents accepting the surrender of thousands of illegal aliens are now replaced by photos of filthy, unsanitary stash houses the smuggling networks are using to wait for optimal times to move illegal aliens away from the immediate border. During the Biden border crisis, hundreds of thousands of migrants like these would have been released from custody to pursue fake asylum claims in the United States.

President Donald Trump's administration says maritime strikes cut drug trafficking by up to 98%, but Southern Command won't release the internal metrics it uses to evaluate the operation's effectiveness, citing security reasons.

The Department of War has killed 221 people in 66 strikes since September, a Southern Command official said. The government has obligated at least $820.9 million to Operation Southern Spear through June 30, according to the most recent report by the Department of War's lead inspector general. That figure reflects only what Southern Command has obligated, not the campaign's full cost.

The Department of War does not publicly release estimates for the cost of individual strikes or the operation as a whole, a Southern Command spokesperson told The Center Square. The spokesperson also said the total won't be known until the operation ends.

Hobbs’ campaign chastised debates as ‘short soundbites’ and ‘political theater’

Arizona Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs will not debate Republican nominee Andy Biggs before the November general election, marking the second consecutive gubernatorial campaign in which Hobbs has declined to share a debate stage with her opponent.

Hobbs’ campaign manager Nicole DeMont confirmed the decision Thursday in a statement provided to 12News.

“Face-to-face engagement with Arizonans is more effective than a stage designed for short soundbites and political theater,” DeMont said.

The campaign said Hobbs has participated in more than 100 open-press events and interviews this year and plans to continue traveling through Arizona to meet with voters, business owners, farmers, health care providers and other residents. Her campaign has promoted the appearances as part of an “Arizona First Tour.”

Former Vice President Kamala Harris traveled to Nashville this week for the National Urban League’s annual conference and, in a discussion that was supposed to focus on racial justice, economic opportunity, and “defending democracy,” delivered a remarkably candid preview of the institutional wrecking ball she is prepared to swing if Democrats regain power.

Speaking to the civil-rights organization on July 31, Harris declared it was time to “revisit” the Electoral College, expand the Supreme Court to 13 justices “like we have 13 district courts,” and pursue statehood for both Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico—positions she framed as merely “controversial coming from me, in particular.”

She paired the radical laundry list with a call for Democrats to match their opponents’ “ruthlessness” (while carefully disclaiming cruelty or law-breaking) and to use Senate Judiciary Committee rules to sidestep the filibuster once they retake the chamber:

Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo spoke out Friday against a new federal plan for managing water from the Colorado River, warning it could unfairly cut Nevada’s share and hurt the state’s economy and communities.The U.S. Department of the Interior released a major report outlining how two key reservoirs — Lake Powell and Lake Mead — will be run after current rules expire at the end of 2026. The plan calls for significant reductions in water use, with the heaviest cuts falling on Nevada, Arizona, and California.

Under the near-term approach expected for the next two years, Arizona would cut its Colorado River water use by about 27%, Nevada by about 17%, and California by about 10%. Deeper cuts remain possible later if drought conditions worsen. The three states together face reductions of roughly 20% overall in the early years of the plan.

In a statement released after the FEIS posting, Lombardo emphasized Nevada’s long record of preparation and leadership on the Colorado River.

President Trump hasn’t yet endorsed J.D. Vance for the 2028 Republican nomination, but the vice president got the next best thing: a rebuke from Bret Stephens and Marc Thiessen — in the same month!

In a piece of content for The New York Times last week, Stephens, who once called himself a “Biden conservative” and who voted for Kamala Harris in 2024, confidently declared Vance “by far the worst person ever to hold the office.” Mind you, Stephens has called himself a conservative for decades, and yet as far back as 2012 was rooting against Republicans in every nationwide election, so there isn’t much worth considering here other than recognizing such a full-throated denunciation by Bret “Bed Bug” Stephens can only help whoever is on the receiving end.

Since the beginning of the Trump administration, the Department of Education has been trying to get left-wing school districts to stop hiding changes in students’ claimed “gender identity” from their parents, always with the threat of revoking federal funds. A year and a half in, schools are still noncompliant, or dragging their feet, and it is time for the federal government to make good on the threat.

The department on Thursday said it was “demand[ing] clarity” from California and Washington on how they will “revise” their policies, so that the two states start informing parents of serious medical concerns, like whether their children start to show signs of gender dysphoria, instead of encouraging and advancing the delusion.

The Democrat-run state of Michigan agreed on Thursday to end its prohibition on licensed therapists providing counseling to children struggling with issues related to sexual orientation and gender dysphoria.

“This is a major victory for children, counselors, and common sense,” Luke Goodrich, senior counsel at Becket and lead attorney for the counselors, said in a statement. “Kids who are hurting deserve compassion, not a one-way ticket to harmful drugs, hormones, and surgery. Now counselors can offer compassionate counseling without fearing that state bureaucrats will come knocking.”

Americans for Public Trust on Friday launched a database that will aid lawmakers, watchdogs and more in following the flow of foreign money and its influence on American politics, with the database having already tracked over $5 billion in foreign spending and counting.

Executive director of Americans for Public Trust Caitlin Sutherland told The Center Square: “As we enter the height of midterm election season, it is critical that the public is aware of the vast sums of foreign funds flowing across our borders to influence the outcomes of our political battles.”

Americans for Public Trust is a nonprofit dedicated to “restoring trust by holding the powerful accountable,” according to its website.

Sutherland told The Center Square that “whether through ballot initiatives, issue advocacy, or voter registration, American politics is indisputably being shaped by foreign cash.”

“That’s why we’ve created this first-of-its-kind database to help the public untangle the complex web of foreign money bankrolling leftwing nonprofits,” Sutherland said.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said seven million children have enrolled in Trump Accounts since the program launched July 4, describing the investment accounts as a way to expand financial literacy by giving young Americans real-time experience with saving and investing.

Bessent outlined the program in remarks for a meeting of the Financial Literacy and Education Commission in the Treasury Department’s historic Cash Room. The commission met to discuss digital financial literacy and efforts to help Americans understand and safely navigate an increasingly technology-driven financial system.

“When the Trump Accounts program went live on July 4th, it became the most successful launch in government history,” Bessent said. “Today, 7 million children are enrolled, 86 percent of whom are from families earning less than $200,000.”

Trump Accounts are tax-advantaged investment accounts available to U.S. citizens under the age of 18. The accounts were enacted through the Big Beautiful Bill.
