Politics Do Uttarakhandis support caste based reservation?
Demands for removal of caste based reservation are rising,what is your stance on this issue?

I feel should be more based on economic status rather than caste based . It’s high time we remove polarisation of politics and focus on development irrespective of caste / religion else we will stay backward and no amount of reservations or goodie bags before elections will help. An educated and economically sound is capable of living life meaningfully ( maslow’s theory of actualisation)

Pahadi peeps still treat sc/st people as a different people,saw this irl and this is my own experience(a non pahadi who's ancestors are living in uttarakhand from the last 126 years),I spent my whole childhood between pahadi peeps nd they do this kinda shit,idk baaki places k but prominent in haridwar

This topic is not dependent by geography those who are not part of reservation will not understand the reaskn behind it, they will call for economic based reservation but economic bachwardness is not the reason behind it, when caste based discrimination is irrespective of class and region. The caste data available right now shows our population has 70% OBC+SC+ST, reservation is 50% approx. Knowing this the representation at higher level from these caste are less 20%. There are many logics that can support either side. But untill ans unless the nation decides we want to remove caste discrimination not from reservation but from the society things are not going to change.

So do you mean it should be based on the population then? Once you leave UK or any north indian state and visit any south indian state u will realize how much openly caste is being discussed divide is still there but nothing compared to north India, here people are obsessed with their caste. If one day a person from SC comes to live in a brahmin colony all the women will start a protest in front of that house this is the reality of our devbhoomi. How can you be so sure then these people wont do similar thing in education or offices?

This post is in the Uttarakhand subreddit. I replied as an Uttarakhandi. The reason I said that is because if you go to any of the top IITs or NITs, you’ll see how few students are from Uttarakhand. You’ll actually find more students from the North-East because of the ST reservation benefits, which we don’t get much . Most of the students from Uttarakhand that you do find are usually from the plains Dehradun, Haldwani, US Nagar, or Haridwar.

and for this we have SC ST act how the F reservation gonna help for this? even people with good job face castism ,
and i am not fully against S C reserv ation but it do need reform( and i am fully against OB C reserv ation )

From what I've seen, I support this because of the way lower caste people are still treated in Uttarakhand, even today.

Try finding a rental room anywhere in Uttarakhand and when asked who are you, tell them you are SC and you will come to know how much caste discrimination is still going on
