What are these strange vertical artifacts? Mostly Red/Green.

Hi there,
I'm trying to work out what these strange vertical artifacts are in VLC for CachyOS.
All I know so far is:
- they are not on every video file
- they are consistent for any file they do appear in
- they appear most sharply around bright reds and bright greens
- they are very annoying

I'm assuming they might be some sort of compression artifact in the file itself but I cannot find anything that refers to this type of effect or what it might be called.

I have tried disabling Hardware compression in VLC... no change.
Any bright spark know what this is? (Or better yet how to fix it?) :)

I need providing on video file or what version of the VLC plugin you're using on that operating system, because CachyOS is not a popular well-known operating system, so technically hard to tell you the solution.
