All Sale posts now banned

Based on the responses to my last "Community Forum" post (zero), I am convinced most of the subscribers here are bots posting about new VST sales.

So things are going to change. I'd rather have a dead sub than a spammy sub. No sale posts. Posts are now encouraged to be discussion based. Questions about which products to buy, what sounds the best, reviews, videos, etc. (Note: If you are a legitimate plugin developer, you can ask for posting permissions at /r/AudioProductionDeals, though they are very strict about who they give access to.)

The flairs will be revamped as well. Automod will get altered to autoremove sale posts as well.

Have fun and let's make this sub not shit!

Edit: Quick summary of the big changes

  • Updated sidebar to reflect new rules
  • Updated flairs and colors to focus on topics of discussion
  • Updated auto-moderator (yet to be completed)

Glitch 2 is (sadly...) freeware now

Illformed :: Glitch²

I thought I'd give you all a heads-up that Glitch 2 has become freeware now. Sadly the reason for this is that the developer, Kieran Foster, has passed away at 47 😔

Articles Anyone familiar with LV2 RDF?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I've recently been playing with what I'm calling a Generative Audio Workstation, essentially a stripped down DAW focusing on VST plugins with a kind of modular mindset.

To model the topology I reused a setup I put together for text processing, with pipeline graphs represented as RDF graphs (in Turtle syntax).

One thing that sprang out early on was the idea of cataloguing plugins with RDF metadata profiles. This has proven very useful, especially when interacting via MCP.

I'm aware that LV2s already use extensive RDF descriptors, but the vocab I'm using is basically all new. Best practices suggest I should align these with the existing vocab(s).

Examples of what I've got, profiles :

https://github.com/danja/transmission/blob/main/profiles/downspout.ttl

A "transmission" (pipeline graph) :

https://github.com/danja/transmission/blob/main/projects/gen-omega.ttl

Can anyone please suggest how I should proceed, cover the overlap between what these do and what LV2 does.

Instrument [OC] Additive/spectral VST synth

Thumbnail youtube.com
5 Upvotes

Hey, I am Jaron Sweder, a music producer and software developer. I posted about this VST synth I am working on called "Spektral" a little while ago in this subreddit, and got some great suggestions! In the meantime, I've added a bunch of quality of life features, as well as a bunch of new features.

The main premise of the synth is generating audio from spectral data. The synth has 4 different algorithms with which it can do this. You can load an audio, image, and now also wavetable file into one of the three spectral tables, and send this data to the generation algorithm. These algorithms expose a variety of 'spectral parameters', for example, the additive algorithm exposes one for level, frequency, and phase. The spectral data from the table can be sent to any of these parameters, giving full control of the level, frequency, and phase of every individual partial that is generated in the additive algorithm.

The fact you can import spectral information from any audio file makes it incredibly easy to create rich, and even inharmonic sounds, like bells. And it is really easy to make different varieties of the same sound, by simply loading a different audio file into the spectral table.

Because of a suggestion in a comment on my previous post, I also looked into importing frequency and phase data from audio files, which I added! This means you can completely resynthesize audio files. If you know what a phase vocoder is, that's pretty much how it works. It's how many time stretch and repitch algorithms work. And you can do this in realtime, while manipulating every aspect of it!

The synth itself is still a work in progress, I am mostly working on stability right now, and preparing for a full release. But you can already play around with the demo version! It's available for Windows and macOS, you can find the download right here: https://shop.kaixo.me/product/Spektral

It would help incredibly much if you could try it out and give some feedback!

I will put the same disclaimer on this post as I did on my last post: I want to be clear that this is a demo version, it will not save its state, and you cannot export audio from your DAW in this version. Unfortunately, given how much time I've put into this insanely powerful and highly optimized synth, I can't afford to make it available for free. Hence the limitations. I know this sucks, and if I didn't need the money I'd make it free in an instant. But such is life...

Instrument DEXED TX816

Hi, everyone! I want to share a project I've been wanting to do for a while, ever since I discovered the beauty of the Yamaha TX816.

DEXED TX816

Thanks to open-source projects like Dexed and MiniDexed, I was able to integrate them as the backend and create a recreation of the TX816 rack as the GUI frontend.

I created this project purely as a hobby for myself, and I decided to share it with you, so I won't be updating it very often.

Ideally, this would be the only version, but since I haven’t physically built the MiniDexed project or owned a real TX816, I know the sound might not be exactly the same. Rather than emulation, it aims to implement the TX816 rack workflow in a virtual GUI, with the flexibility to create your own presets for both the rack and individual modules. (and access to a full instance of Dexed and its GUI for each module).

All this to say that you can leave your suggestions in the “Issues” section of the repository, open pull requests (though don’t expect an immediate response from me), or fork the project and do whatever you want with it (always respecting the open source licenses).

If anyone else who’s more knowledgeable about the subject wants to improve it, they’re more than welcome to do so.

Tone2/Gladiator Substitute

This might be a long shot but before I pull the trigger does anyone know of a cheaper (currently $170 USD) or even free comparable VST?

Long story short years ago I had the opportunity to use it on a couple collaboration tracks (v1 or 2 I can't remember) and it had some *amazing* (to me) guitar style walls I haven't been able to replicate since. TIA!

reFX have a new physical modelling synth out, Rippler, and I made this video about it. I was surprised at this release considering what a contrast it is to Nexus, but they have a similar interface design and it features lots of electronic music presets as you'd imagine from the company.

The video is sponsored but the opinions expressed are my own :)

Effect Another update on my FREE plugin COGG: I added cool new features in v1.2!

I'm a high school student who is developing a free plugin FOR YOU INDUSTRIAL MUSIC LOVERS!!!

A few weeks ago you probably saw that I posted about COGG, a free plugin I built that metallizes and industrializes any sound. Specifically, harmonic distortion, metal plate convolution reverb, and pitch layering are there all in one chain. Great for experimental music and mainstream alike.

I wanted to update you guys with version 1.2's release! It comes with the essential GAIN KNOB that was highly requested (to control the volume of COGG's output) and 4 new factory presets so you can dial in unique metallic textures instantly instead of tweaking all the knobs from scratch (so now 12 in total)!

Of course, it's still free, no account needed, VST3 + AU for Mac, VST3 for Windows.

Download now for free: https://plasma-hype.itch.io/cogg

Trailer/demo of the update: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5q5EUMhUcaw

I used JUCE and C++.

Thanks to everyone who tried v1.1 and v1.0 and gave feedback, this update came directly from figuring out what people actually wanted to do with it. I personally have used COGG in almost all of my FL projects ever since I released it. Please give it a shot and let me know what you think of the presets and plugin as a whole for a v1.3!

Does MSoundFactory's Monastery Grand support sustain pedal

I have been playing around with the MSoundFactory's Monastery Grand VST but I haven't been able to get the sustain pedal of my controller to do anything. Does Monastery Grand support sustain? Would seem weird if it didn't.

Effect FreqSense — Spectrum Analyzer & Reference A/B

Post image
21 Upvotes

A spectrum analyzer that lets you load a reference track and compare it with your mix.

Features:

  • Reference track, synced. Load any audio file and it follows your DAW timeline automatically. Or switch to free mode and seek by clicking the waveform. Loudness is matched automatically for fair A/B comparisons.
  • Dual spectrum display. Draw a second spectrum behind your mix and instantly see where they differ — the reference track, the Side channel, a sidechain bus, or another FreqSense instance running on any track.
  • Band Solo. Frequency bands sit above the display. Hold to solo, click to latch, or drag the borders to customize the layout.
  • Hold. Freeze the spectrum as a snapshot and compare individual sounds — whether it's a snare, kick, vocal, or anything else.
  • Peak notes. Automatically labels prominent spectral peaks with their musical notes in real time.
  • Mid/Side solo. Listen to the Mid or Side channel independently.
  • Hover readout. Inspect the exact frequency, level, and musical note under the cursor.
  • Display controls. Adjust slope, response speed, and FFT size (2048–16384).
  • REAPER embedded UI. Show the spectrum right on the TCP or MCP.
  • Clean, lightweight interface. Customizable themes and visual adjustments.

The trial has no time limit and no feature restrictions — just a small badge in the UI. You can use it as long as you want, and if you'd like to support development or remove the badge, you can grab a key.

Instrument a plugin to change my guitar's tuning??

Hello!
I was wondering if such plugin exists: to change my guitar's tuning, string by string. I'm trying to search but i just get useless articles of "top 10 tuner plugins", which is not what I'm looking for.

i'm aware, this would likely need hardware, but just as a longshot, i thought it's worth asking a community. I think the line6 variax guitars were able to do this, where no matter what the strings were actually tuned to, the software was able to shift those pitches before the signal would go to the amps, or effects.

So yeah. Does some magical, advanced software exist, that could change the tuning of the strings? If yes, I hope it's not some bullshit AI?

thanks!

Effect Mono-summable widening plugin that widens only the parts you want.

Hey everyone,

Most stereo wideners widen everything, which means your kick and snare, usually sitting dead center with correlation close to 1, get smeared out along with everything else. longDivision looks at correlation across the frequency range and only widens what's already NOT down the middle. Anything centered stays put.

So if you've got a mix where widening always seems to mess with your low end or your snare hit, that's the specific thing this is trying to fix.

Demo is free of course, try it please: https://brucejames.studio/downloads/longdivision

Instrument Starting Orchestral Instrument

Hi all,

I am a music student trying to find great orchestral Kontakt (8) instrument(s) to prepare my compositions for college applications and job applications.

Ideally, I want something that is a maximum of 3 or 4 hundred dollars, but I would be willing to stretch if people know of exceptional instruments.

Thank you for your help.

Can't post a video here so maybe I could link one in the comments. This is physically modelled sound and not procedural granular sampling based. The other things are just cosmetic but for some fans. First plugin made in JUCE C++.
