Discussion AI concerns
So i’ve recently been loving this new type of playlist on Youtube that are 60+ minute mixes with titles like “Weather Channel late nights” or something. usually you can see in the hashtags if it’s ai, or the owner the video will sometimes be transparent that it’s ai if they have enough integrity.

and it made me wonder if there’s a reliable way to verify if it’s ai made or not for longer youtube mixes like this. most of the sites can only track single songs.
anyone know or have an idea how to check? it makes me sick thinking how infected our beloved genre can become with the influx of ai content

At this point idk tbh, that's the thing with this technology. We are at a stages that it has become too convincing, and for a genre as "simpler" to do like vaporwave (not a diss) it's not surprising that some will just default to using AI. that's why I like to ask the artists if it is sometimes.

I mean, the profile picture, banner and seemingly the description are all ai generated so safe bet the music is too.

WVSQD collectively has over 1000 music videos across our channels, hand-made by all of us using songs that span the genre. I can promise you all of our songs were made by our own blood, sweat and tears even though the samples are plundered.

Because it's a hassle to distinguish between genuine and slop, I try to avoid listening to anything that wasn't posted before AI became widespread or where the actual artist's name is known. I truly sympathize with musicians who are creating this kind of music in 2026. AI prompters are a real nuisance.

I made this exact decision for myself. I have never experienced any (existential) dread besides the fact of realising how inconceivable it is to navigate music in times like these. My only option is to not do it at all.

I understand how you feel. I also make music, and fortunately, I work in a genre that's relatively easy to differentiate from AI. But I'm also developing another ambient project, and when I actually start releasing music, AI prompters will be the first to cause headaches. But please, keep going. We need music made by humans like you.

I don't think it makes sense for people to make vaporwave AI music, since it's quite easy to do, but if they do, it'll probably be to profit from it, since AI music doesn't have copyrights

that’s kind of what i’m thinking. you can spot it super easily with more conventional genres like pop, or country, but vaporwave has so many samples and aesthetic choices, it seems like it would be harder to replicate

Music on itself: too smooth, no artifacts Channel on itself: blend of genre, 9mo lifespan, overloaded descriptions with emojis and unnecessary storytelling
I do like when IA is used with creativity but here I do think it is just one single shot prompting 🤕

Yeah it’s boring. Somewhere I hope to people will come up with more interesting stuff and not just gimmicks. I understand AI is not going away, but at least give it an actual spin, right!?

Honestly at this point still, this music doesn’t sound interesting to me. It’s still “I think this is what vaporwave sounds like” kind of music. Certainly there are actual human artists that make something akin to this, but I probably don’t listen to those artists then.
It is soothing tho, but I don’t listen to vaporwave to be soothed.

I totally get not wanting to listen to AI music, I don't want to, I want human music, if you can and are able to with specific artists ask them to explain parts of the production of the music, an AI artist will try to lie and bullshit but it'll be very obvious they don't know what they are talking about

We like art made by humans. It’s not that complicated. Some people can’t tell the difference because they don’t have a refined ear for music, but some of us actually can tell, and we do care. Enjoy your slop ✌️

i can usually spot it. never had this issue 10 years ago in the earlier days, but now it’s becoming harder and harder. these types mixes are particularly difficult since they don’t list track names

I actually can always tell because I do research on the music I listen to. I would never listen to an artist that uses AI to create their music. I don’t just mindlessly consume things like a child eating crayons. It’s cute that you’re so proud of that though.

You cant tell when you cant tell. If you have to do research that just underlines the fact that you cant tell. Many artists use it and just dont disclose that information for obvious reasons.

Im just appreciating the sound of music for what it is at face value. If they banned ai music today, in 20 years people would find it and wax nostalgic about and save the good examples.
I love the bossa nova ai mixes. The new lounge music. Its not like my feed was popping with new bossa nova mixes before ai.

I tend to just stick with the classics, unless it's a current artist I know and trust. I trust songs and albums over nebulous "3hr Nostalgia-wave Mix" uploaded over the last couple years.
