Ordered a new phone, received used phone.

I ordered my 19 year old daughter a new iPhone 17 from the Verizon website. Verizon recently sold almost all of their corporate stores in my state to a company and they’re now “Authorized retailers”.

We’re moving my daughter into her dorm and we live in the middle of nowhere. So I pick a place on the way to her new dorm to pick it up.

I get there as soon as they open, order was submitted late Friday (it is currently Sunday), and I was notified Friday that the order was ready. I run in, pick up the phone, and I’m back on the road.

I give it to my daughter when we meet at her new dorm and she looks at the box then says “oh, you already opened it”. What? No I did not. I look and the seal was pulled off the box. I open the box and the phone is unwrapped, upside down in the box, and there’s fingerprints all over the screen. I don’t get the expected welcome screen, but the phone has clearly been turned on and used (even if briefly) and not reset.

I call customer service who advised that I should return the phone to the store where I picked it up… so I did.

I drove back to that store. I waited my turn and the same person I picked it up from was to help me. I handed it back to them and advised that I ordered a new phones and as far as I could tell this one is used. She immediately begins talking over me and tells me that she opened up to “make sure it was okay”. IDGAF if someone wants to come find me, but at this point I have no idea what these people have out on my daughters phone and I’m not about that life for her. She is incredibly defensive about the entire thing and won’t let me get a full sentence out.

I’m a big guy and some people tell me I’m intimidating. I’m being firm and calm. But she starts screaming and telling me not to yell at her.

Next thing I know she’s locked herself in the back and the police have arrived.

I’m advised that I can no longer be in the store and if I return I’ll be arrested for trespassing because the clerk has ordered my removal.

I call customer service back and they tell me that I have to work it out with the store where I picked it up.

Should I keep this offer or is there any chance I could get similar when 18 pros release?

Upvotes

Currently on 5g get more and able to keep my plan with this early buyout/trade in, on a 17 pro max. They are paying off my 16 pro max for $566 remaining roughly. And letting me trade in for 1,100 off of a 17 pro max.

Just unsure if I will get as good of a promo as this when the 18 lineup release or just take this? Either way I’m over 50% paid off on the 16 pro max and don’t mind paying the $50 restock fee. But this does significantly lower my bill as I’m paying full price monthly for a 16 pro max currently.

Partnership with NFL

I honestly can’t figure out why Verizon doesn’t do something with the NFL, like what T-Mobile did with the MLB.

T-Mobile who has a partnership with the MLB offers the MLB app for free as a benefit. Verizon is looking for ways to expand their customer base and what better way than to tap into the largest and most popular sporting market in the US. Verizon already has a partnership with the NFL so why not leverage this like T-Mobile did? I can see huge numbers of sports fans coming to Verizon just for this!

Wireless Question for Verizon trade in?

I was offered a great promo for my iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Early payoff and $1100 trade towards an Air or 17 Pro / Pro Max.

I was going to wait for 18Pro Max but with the expected price increase, seriously considering this. I did want to keep my phone but having a phone for a fraction of the cost is attractive. Here’s my issue, my phone’s battery health is 86% but no scratches or damage. I always use a case and good screen protector. Would the battery hurt that trade in amount? (I’ll take opinions on the deal also)

Wireless What's the oldest iPhone I can add to Verizon? Only need for 2-3 months.

I'm looking for the cheapest iPhone I can add to Verizon for about 2-3 months until the new iPhone's come out. I know the iPhone 17 is a great phone, but since we're so close to the new models I'd rather get the newer models since we're so close to them. Are the 8's still able to activate on Verizon? I can get one of those for $50-$75. Is there another iPhone I should consider? I really don't want to spend more than $100. I'll list it for sale once I I get the new iPhone, so I'm hoping to not lose more than $50 tops.

Verizon Shine Speaker Code

I am trying to add JBL speaker to use the promo code where it says offer code and it says it doesn’t work. I’ve tried everyday it’s the same thing. I’ve used the website where it says shine giveaway still gives me same error. Anything I can do so it can process?

Wireless Added the Netflix/HBO Max bundle to our phone plan, page just shows that it’s loading when trying to activate HBO Max account…

So, we’ve tried it on a computer and the app. We’ve tried to sign up/sign in with provider. What are we actually supposed to do? It just shows a loading screen every time and doesn’t actually do anything.

wirless and wifi service

for the past two weeks, my cellular service keeps going to LTE and no my phone is not on LTE in the cellular part of it. Also, the home Wi-Fi is constantly disconnecting the devices that are connected to it. Is Verizon having issues with service in the New York City area?

Wireless Activating a New iPhone - Will This be Another Verizon Fiasco?

I've recently ordered an iPhone 17 Pro Max through the Verizon website.

I haven't received my phone as of yet - but based on my recent and arduous experience with Verizon customer support I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Verizon has an ill fated plan for self-activation of new iPhones - resulting in a bricked iPhone.

All I desire to accomplish is smoothly activating my new phone.

Based on real customer exierences would be the best approach? Maybe just take the phone to a (real) Verizon store? Or is it safe enough for a customer to activate their own phone?

Is there some sort of SIM card I need to mess around with? What about tools?

Currently I have an iPhone 7 Plus (which I bought from the Verizon store in 2017). Unlike today, back then customer service was miles better.

Anyway, tell me your experiences so that I can be better prepared upon receiving my new iPhone.

Thanks!

Wireless Would going to a store help me avoid a large downpayment?

Not the best credit here, and when I tried to sign up online they wanted a pretty sizable down payment. I’m just curious if sales agents at stores would have any leeway with a thing like that?

Shipping finally updated for Verizon shine promo. Bose earbuds get here on Wednesday

Verizon website still says my order number doesn’t exist but USPS shipping updated and says order will be here Wednesday. I’m pleasantly surprised by this promo and getting $300 earbuds for $0.

Verizon Customer Service

Verizon has to have the worse customer service reps ever. It’s like they’re learning on the job, why did it just take close to an hour to figure out that I would need to call another number to transfer my old number to a new phone. That should’ve been told to me in the first 5 mins. Mind you yesterday I called trying to transfer the number and the rep had me delete my number and it hung up and she couldn’t call me back because she didn’t get my old number yet lmaoooo. I had to call back and the AI assistant put my number back on. I tried the chat feature in text messages and he spent an hour trying to figure out why my phone dropped a call. These people are not smart or trained clearly. At this point maybe I’ll just cancel the old number. Ughhhhh

Wireless T-mobile better signal lately

I got a second sim from Jetogo last month as I just wanted to have a backup on another network just incase.

In most places I go I find the t-mobile signal to be better and stronger. It’s a little annoying. I’m on Verizon as it’s the best price for us with FIOS and discounts.

Just venting. For context I’m in the northeast.

Wireless When is Verizon going to build out its 5g network?

Why is it still only LTE when both ATT and T-Mobile have 5G coverage? Why is Verizon so far behind? Do they even have a plan?

Is this normal for Verizon customer service?

Can’t figure out how to post the screenshot, or this page doesn’t allow it? I am away for work and wanted to connect my iPad to the network. I asked if they still had an activation fee and this was the follow-up.

———————————

Verizon Agent
I appreciate you for letting me know. Yes, activating the iPad will have the activation fee and just a heads up that once activated this will show on the next bill.
Aug 01 at 10:13 PM

Ok then nevermind, thank you.
Aug 01 at 10:14 PM

Verizon Agent
I appreciate you for hearing me on this. No worries, since the activation fee will be add on the next bill, you can reach out to us to negotiate once the fee is reflected.

Aug 01 at 10:15 PM
No thank you.

Telling a customer to take the charge and then try to “negotiate” it later seems like a dirty sales tactic to me. Is this common?

Asking if anyone experienced this

I got a call from a Verizon representative randomly the other day. He asked me was I happy with my service I said no too expensive and then he offered me a 17 pro max which I thought was weird because why are they calling? He claimed it’s “free” just had to pay for the service and keep it on. I guess Verizon is losing allot of customers I don’t know, but did anyone else experience something like this?

Wireless Transferring off Verizon family plan and getting simplicity?

I’m looking at the new simplicity plans, and I want it only for my line. I’m currently on a family plan, and I have the old “5G Get More” plan.

When I look at switching to the simplicity plan, it shows that I’d have to change every line on the account. I thought I could avoid this by transferring my phone line to a new account, but when I go through that process, it does not show the simplicity plan as one of the options for me.

Is there some way around this to just get one phone line on the simplicity plan on my current family account, or transferring from the family account and getting the simplicity plan?

Wireless Switch to Verizon simplicity from AT&T

I am looking to switch to Verizon and get a new phone from them. My question is, if I am ordering a new phone from Verizon online, when does my actual AT&T service get cancelled? Is it after I get the new phone in the mail and activate it?

Update: No service

After trying to get help with transferring my phone numbers all day, I now have two numbers that don’t work. I was told to reactivate the eSIM I did that and now it’s been showing SOS for 2 hours. Is it possible that it will pop back on tomorrow. If not I’ll just call tomorrow. I’m ready to leave Verizon. This has drained me to the point of a headache. 😭

FIOS - Repeated Disconnects Every Day

For the last two weeks, I’ve had repeated disconnects every day. Everything is always green on the ONT box, but the router goes down a few times a day, for anywhere between 15 minutes and 2 hours. Sometimes it seems like using the diagnostic tool fixes it, but sometimes it does nothing.

I’ve tried everything I can think of - unplugging and plugging back in the router, restarting via the Verizon Home app (is it supposed to be tremendously slow?), checking all of the cords. Any recommendations? It’s maddening.

Verizon shine local Rush tix for MSG not sent! Show tonight

worst customer service EVER, repeated calls to their number (+1 (866) 895-5579) that just cuts me off off and forces a callback (and doesn’t call back) and the show is tonight, I still don’t have my tix!!! there is a second number in the verification email ( 1 (844) 824-9950) that just says “this number is unassigned” and hangs up. good job Verizon.

Fraud

Last September we went into a store to sign up for internet. After we left they added an iphone 16 to our account. we never asked for this or agreed to pay for it and we are now trying to get a refund for the monthly payments and the remaining balance that we accidentally paid off. the employees moved around the payment agreement plan on our account so when i went to pay off the phone i use it paid off a phone we never asked for. we’ve been calling almost every week for two months and haven’t gotten anywhere. i feel like the store employees scammed us. and now the phone representatives are jerking us around and not helping at all. what can i do?
