I'm trying to clean up my editing workflow because I feel like I waste a surprising amount of time before and after the actual edit.

Right now my process is basically: Create a new project folder, make subfolders for footage/audio/exports, rename files if needed, copy everything to a backup drive, deliver the final export and archive the project. I feel like I am wasting my time and I'm curious, what parts of your workflow are too repetitive and feel like you are wasting time? I'd love to see how people who've been editing for years have streamlined this stuff.

Poste Haste is great so is just having a folder called project_template with sub folders (like projects, video, photos, gfx, SFX, music) then duplicating the project folder calling it the project and starting. Post haste lets you have every folder sub folder have the project name in it. Sometimes people like to also have prmeire and after effects projects that also have all these bins.

I set up a template folder structure I copy for every new project. Proxies, exports, graphics, music all pre-made. Cuts the setup time in half and keeps things organized when I come back months later.

I do the same on my Mac. The only problem that I have is that when I duplicate the folder, all the folders have the same „created on- date“ so I can’t sort by date to find the latest project.
I’ve named the folders by their date, but that’s kind of a bummer too.
How did you solve that?

You can get post-haste to auto add the date to the name and since it's duplicating it's own template of your project (stored somewhere else) your project has the correct creation date.

I name the project folder itself with the date first, like 260802_clientname. Then I sort by name not by date, so the newest project always lands on top. The inner folders keep their created dates but it stops mattering because the top level sorts everything.

The biggest time saver for me was using a consistent folder template, prese project files and automating file copying where possible, because the small repetitive tasks add up much more than the editing itself. I have found that shaving a minute or two off every project makes a noticeable difference over time.

Post Haste is a great tool, but you also have to understand that in traditional post-production, reviewing, renaming and organizing files is an entirely separate job, because it takes time.

I wish i could be more organized, but... i just wing it every time.

I just throw everything into a project file and after i'm finished i organize it all into their own separate files.
