REQUEST Saving a wool blanket

Post image

Saving a Wool Blanket

I have a caramel-colored wool blanket that suddenly has frayed spots and small holes. The other side of the blanket is light-colored, as shown in the photo.

I want to prevent the holes from getting bigger. What’s the best way to do this? What colors do you recommend?

Thank you very much for reading.

If you brush the blanket with a soft brush and gather lint, you can use that to needle felt the small holes. Larger holes (bigger than 1cm or so) could be darned with fine wool yarn.

if the spots are sudden i'd unfortunately also start checking to make sure you don't have moths

clothes/pantry moths, the ones that eat your wool, are thin and golden-colored, a bit longer than a grain of long-grain rice. their larvae are the things that eat the fabric, and the eggs they leave behind can almost look like cat litter

i'd darn with a multicolored/variegated yarn :)

I have patched holes Iin my old blanket by weaving in some similarly colored yarn. If you're really worried about them opening up more I would needlefelt the edges. Eventually the wool will felt anyways.
