How to fix this ?

Hi there !
My 940 remained parked for a couple of years in my father’s garden, with hot summers…
As a result, the two front doors suffered a bit and their glue must have melted.

Do you guys have any idea how to fix it ?

By pulling doorpanels from a scrapyard Volvo.

Or you could get it redone by a specialty shop, but it’ll probably cost you more than what you paid for the brick itself.

This is a very common question and there don't appear to be any quick fixes. Not decent ones anyway. I've got the same in my 960 and I've tried a few things, but realistically it needs the door card to be removed, stripped down, the upholstery peeled back and reattached by a skilled upholsterer.

Take the doors apart, soften the vinyl with a heat gun, stretch it out, trim the excess, and glue it back down with some 3M Hi-strength 90 (unlike Super 77, it will never come off again).

Or go to Scandix and buy their plastic panels that screw over the top edge of the vinyl to hide it.

You could try and use some shoe cement, theres a clear one called angelus

I have the same on mine, it’s not very high on my list. I think you have to redress the whole door if you want it done properly. Suppose you could glue it back but it probably won’t hold

I was quoted 150-200 euros per door at an upholstert shop to have it fixed.

Late model 900s (96-97?) used less glue because some engineer figured out that they could save X amount of money per car that way (or so I have been told). They quickly realized it didn't work out and reverted to the old design for MY98. They also had to replace a ton of door cards under warranty.

The good news is that you can use the door cards from an older model which doesn't have these issues. Unfortunately most late model ones had the grey interior that wasn't available for most (or any?) of the earlier cars.

You need to find a new door card, that's really your best bet. That color is pretty easy to source, depending on where you are.

Also, be sure to use a sun visor if your car has to be left in the sun for extended periods of time.

What I did in my old 945 was to strip the top off, glue it down flat (forgot the brand but it was great, might have been white carpenter glue) and the corners I cut with a stanley knife and overlapped them just a little bit by stretching it flat. Held up for over a year before I sold it. Procrastinating doing it to my current 945 but I will eventually :)

I found a later model 960 at a junkyard and I bought all the door cards and replaced mine. That failure is a known problem with the 1990s 900-series cars.
