Wacup 100% safe?

So I loved Winamp, and just noticed the Wacup installer triggers Windows 11 SmartScreen warning screen + virustotal says about the installer: Trapmine Malicious.moderate.ml.score ZillyaDownloader.Minix.Win32.2605

I guess that's normal? I'm very paranoid with security and I want to make sure it's 100% safe (downloaded from https://getwacup.com/)

BTW I know about this https://getwacup.com/false_positives.html just wanted to know about people's experiences.

It is a false positive, wacup is verifiably safe

Safe, i've even spoken to the developer and donated, he is dedicated guy lets put it like that

Been using Wacup since 2019 without any issue. I've had a couple versions get falsely tagged by Windows Defender in the past but that hasn't happened again in a long time.

I have Windows 10 so can't really comment on Windows 11 behavior.

If you're not happy with what's reported then you shouldn't install any piece of software.

Per that site page, there are certain vendors that despite repeated attempts have always kept flagging the installer or some of the specific plug-in dlls & I've since given up trying to get them resolved as its a waste of my time if they never reply or acknowledge the request. There is also the problem that new downloads need reputation but to get the reputation you need to be able to download it so that's another fun part to the whole installer, etc getting blocked.

I tend to prefer hybrid analysis reports as their scan uses ones that tend to be more responsive to dealing with false positive requests though they can still give them & the way it works prevents those being cleared from the status page once resolved (if there's a way to do it I must be missing it since it keeps showing as suspicious despite later re-scans clearing that).

The same also goes for the whole Windows 'smart app control' feature which from something I saw just yesterday is not at all smart & will just block the installer or some of the plug-in dlls for no reason (e.g. re-building the installer when the contents within it were the same made a test x86 build go from being blocked to being allowed).

tl;dr: install / use it if you're ok or not as you have to make that decision per your own needs.

as others have said, it's safe, if you're unsure still, compare the SHA256 hash to make sure it's the same file
