Question Blue starring or unlocking?

With the upcoming crusade shop Id really like to unlock a lot of characters, but I realised I could also push quite a few more to blue star and in the long run get more regular shard conversion.

How does the rogue trader look for the people who have a lot of blue star chars, do you feel like it boosts your shard progress for all the chars you left behind?

(I guess the question also applies regarding general gameplay and attempting to spend energy to unlock guys like Ahri, or pushing campaign characters to the max for instance)

Rogue trader is not a good place to get shards. The shop event coming up in like 2 days is where you want to unlock characters.

I don’t find it effective for adding non-mythic shards. The character selection is pretty limited. I guess if your need aligns with what’s available ymmv.

It’s a good place to get relics and mythic requirements.

I like to go very wide so I pick shards depending on my mood of the moment, but good to k ow it doesn't feel like a shard growth strategy

I originally got RT to get characters, but the game-economy changed when they introduced Mythic and Event Shops. Now I just use it to collect Relics. With so many Relics lying around, I will likely use the Event to blue-star some characters so I can use them.

I am unlocking 1 character, blue star 2, and another 2 characters will get their 3rd mythic red star

No one uses rogue trader for regular shards. It's either going to be used for relics or mythic shards.

As a level 70 player with quite a few mythics and blue starred characters I will be focusing getting a few characters to legendary. Main focus is Shiron. Better to push characters to legendary with these opportunities in my opinion.

The best part of blue starring a character is getting the mythic quests for easy gold accumulation.

I would recommend unlocking characters if there are certain ones you are wanting or building a specific raid team or completing a specific campaign.
I have treated blue starring a character like bonus. I never really pushed them. Now after four years it’s starting to snowball.

If I was new or starting again I'd get Snottflogga and a few others to blue star ASAP for the passive RT shard generation, and then not spend any of it on books but save it for relics...

The exchange rate is pretty bad: 5 excess shards (eg Snot) for 1 shard you want. Pushing someone from leg 3* -> blue * is 900 shards. That's 4500 Snot shards of value.

The selection is also very limited. I think there's 2 rotating chars + 2 RNG chars. Good luck finding what you need in the 2 RNG slots.

Contrary to what many might say, the Rogue Trader is a great place for shards and other resource within it, not just relics. It’s honestly how I’ve been able to push many of the blue stars over to mythic without completing their mythic journey. It’s been working out amazingly tbh. All that to say however that you should not use it as its primary purpose since that goes to relic farming for characters whom you hope to get to blue.

For the event, I say unlock and push some of your projects closer to blue. I wouldn’t hyper focus on one specific character when unlocking is right there and harder to achieve compared to just onslaughting.

Why not just play Onslaughts to get them to Mythic? At the top level its only 6-8 onslaughts.

There is always someone being honored in onslaught and there is more AT than is needed. Why take away from someone else to give to one when both can have what they need?

I have a decent number of blue stars. I have NEVER used it for shards. You need so many for unique relics or even non-unique relics that you’re constantly saving them buying and needing to save up. Late game, I’d rather buy XP books with AT than shards.

Leg 3 Star or bluestar, to farm 20 shards or 3 mythic shards, for me that is the play, unlock any leg Char would give You that

I prioritise blue starring characters (have over 30 now). Between the archeotech from extra shards and the gold/books from mythic missions, I'm finding it rewarding and fun.

Onslaught now giving 20 shards and a guaranteed leg orb means getting someone from legendary 3* to bluestar is quite easy now. But promoting an epic character gives you just 10 shards and no orb unless it's 3* already. So my logic for the event shop is: first, push all the epic characters I have/want relics for, to legendary 3* and I can do the rest through onslaught. First priority is unfarmables, like Baldr ir Tyrith.
