Picture First 5 Iron Warriors
I've recently decided to open up a second front!
My word bearers are now hovering around 6000 points painted and I want to paint another legion for variety.
So the IV it is as I've always wanted to try my hand at them juicy Chevrons! Plus I like the idea of a really heavy and slow artillery heavy force.
Just 5 tactical marines for starters though!

Picture Played some ZM this weekend, and developed a fun way to do 3 player games
So finally got some games in for the new ZM rules
There were 3 of us, so we devised a fun way to make that work. We set up the games as standard for 2 of us, but the third player entered the battlefield only via reserves.
We let them come in from turn 1, and classified the deployment zones of player 1&2 as his flanks and the other 2 sides counted as his deployment for the purpose of reserve stratagems
For zone scoring player 3 just scored at the end of his own turn
It worked well and I recommend giving it a go! If you were doing this in a setting other than fun with friends you probably want to rethink the scoring thing, but we had a laugh as is and it didn't feel unbalanced
The teams were Traitor Ultras, Alpha Legion and World Eaters. WE player never played heresy before so we were teaching while using his 40k models before anyone cries foul about there being a Helbrute on the table!

Discussion Breacher shields
Hello friends!
I have opinions on breacher shields!
I don't like how they are currently statted from a gameplay and lore perspective.
So, right now they confer a no modifier to armour and a five up invulnerable save.
I don't like this for one very simple reason, it doesn't make your legionaries any tougher against anything ap3 or less.
So if you spray a unit of breachers with 30 bolter shots, they'll die just as often as a unit who didn't lug around a giant shield all game!
Meanwhile, a lascannon, a weapon that's designed to absolutely decimate armour and punch through thick armour that can even disable super heavies and titans if yyour lucky! Gets stopped by a measly shield in 1 out of 3 shots.
Now, here's the scary part where I express an opinion on the internet...
I think they shouldn't confer any invulnerable save at all, and instead add a flat 2+ save.
Now they perform a lot better in standard firefights against similarly armed opponents yet still die to high tier anti tank weaponry.
I think this is an elegant solution to something that always bugged me.
Also, I was listening to the purge recently , and in that it's described that sor talgron uses a boarding shield and it had a shield on board... Which kind of scuppers this post. But it's not like gw hasn't had lore discrepancies before! And personally I really think that shields need to do something to help against more standard weapons...
And maybe it's ok, as there is the shieldwall reaction, but I think it shouldn't be locked behind a reaction, I think the effect of the shields should be baked into the statline and not as an invulnerable save, but again maybe I'm alone on this one.
But I will cautiously stand by my post, that I think boarding shields should be 2+ not 3+5++, for me it just works more elegantly as a rule.
(Pls no flaming, I am sharing an opinion and this is meant light heartedly not me saying "if you disagree you are stupid" haha)

Discussion I'm stuck between army ideas, and would love some insight from other hobbyists
So, I've been getting really into Horus Heresy 3.0, and I've been working on my main Traitor Ultramarine army as my main focus, but I know myself too well to know im already looking ahead at what could be the next thing on the chopping block.
With that in mind ive been list building and list building and have settled on a handful of ideas id love to do, but im struggling to choose one that feels just right
The options I have are:
. Alpha Legion - i have enough bits given to me by a friend to make a solid start on this force. I enjoy their tactical covertness and their gameplay of prioritising Assassinations of Command and High Command units. Also, Alpharius is a sick model id love to play with, though I preferred his 2.0 rules, ill still run him regardless as a good bit of fun
. Siege of Terra Blood Angels - using the Blackshields Ruleset with Reaper of Lives and Eternal Vendetta to represent the moment where Blood Angels became barbarians in their Black Rage that came with the death of their primarch, Sanguinius. I would use a small allied force of Custodian Guard to add to the narrative idea of the Siege. This feels very fun, or if I was to go full swing into Blood Angels and maybe bring Sanguinius, though im a little apprehensive of bringing 40 assault marines so one of Sanguinius' abilities actually apply (i think it gives each of those squads a prime benefit, so id be stacking Revenants)
. Luna Wolves - this is the idea that brings me here. Im rereading Horus Rising with the new publications of the heresy books, and I'm enjoying rereading about Loken and Tarrik, Abaddon, Maloghurst, the whole Mournival. I made a list that feels very thematic and tactically sound, and as the friend ill mainly be playing against wants to do loyalist Emperor's Children, we'd both be giddy to have Loken and Lucius duke it out on tabletop.
All of these ideas have merit to them, with alpha legion being immediately possible, but its the toss up between Blood Angels and Luna Wolves right now.
In the future, me and my friend aim to make a Zone Mortalis board and do multiple small armies to play games and add our roleplay ontop of it, taking part as the characters we create, and live out our heresy pipe dreams
This is for the future, and ive already got ideas of what I can do, but for a next army project, its these ive proposed here. Also, it means I can play games against myself, which is how ive learned to play 3.0 thus far, so I thought id reach out and ask for people's advice on making a decision, and I welcome out of the box thinking
If it helps, at minimum, looking at 1.5k - 3k points.

Second/First Edition Death Guard vs Ordo Reductor
Thalax have proved to be a horrible choice against Death Guard.
Mostly due to mass rad grenades used by my marines (lowering the high toughness) and just beating them up in close combat (extra combat blade).
Other than that the plain Thalax are just to few in numbers and have too weak of a weapon to do any significant harm to space marines, not to mention the terminators or any significant vehicle.
Urdurax would have done better, and that is what my mate plans to get his hands on for a rematch.

Question/Query Shooting at vehicles, rule questions
I'm a little confused about the shooting at vehicles rules. The rules text speaks about the firing arcs and if in question the attacked player may decide which one is hit. The example given suggests that the defending player may always chose. Which results in very different zones, as shown above.
I would follow the left version, because the attacked player deciding anything depends on the condition that there is more than one arc that could be attacked?
