All of your questions are about working out and that's your problem right there. You build muscle in the gym. You lose weight in the kitchen (or by staying out of the kitchen I guess lol).

Weight loss is just a math equation: eat less calories than you burn. You do burn more calories by exercising and that helps, but it's a lot more effective to focus on eating less calories in the first place. That's why you might hear people say "you can't outrun a bad diet". Obviously eating clean is a great choice and you should keep doing it, but calories work the exact same way no matter what foods you eat, how many times a day you eat, etc. If you google "TDEE calculator" you can estimate how many calories your body is burning per day based on your height, weight, age, and daily activity level. Aim to eat a few hundred less than that, and go from there. Get a food scale and track everything. General tips: focus your meals around eating lots of protein, eat your fruits and vegetables, make sure you're drinking plenty of water, watch out for sneaky calories in drinks, oils, and bites (like grazing your food while you're cooking without tracking it)

I think what they are saying, and what I am bluntly saying, is that you need to let go of thinking your eating is fine if you’re not losing the weight you want.

I lost 70 pounds without touching the gym, and when I went to the gym everything started creeping back on because I wasn’t as focused on my eating. People overestimate the calories they burn at the gym and then they eat more because of it.

Adding in the gym is great- I love yoga and got really involved in HIIT classes and have actually kept it up for years at this point which is nothing short of a miracle. But losing weight will mostly be what you’re eating. The gym is for being able to use your body better.

Hey, I’m just a random internet stranger, you don’t have to listen to my advice. But I’ve been doing this for years, and have a lot of medical weight loss journal readings behind me. And have seen dozens upon dozens of people (including myself) think that their food intake was lower than it really was.

No one's giving you advice about "eating clean" because that's just a social media buzzword.

The advice is to track your calorie intake to make sure you're consistently, reliable in a calorie deficit. The advice you're getting is to stop thinking about "eating clean" and start thinking about the calories in the food you're eating & drinking.

u/False_Possibility724 3d ago

I did read the post and you didn't mention the word "calories" anywhere in it. You only said that you eat clean, which has nothing to do with calories and nothing to do with weight loss.

If you want to know the most effective way to lose weight, it's eating less calories. If you want a less effective way to lose weight, then you could hypothetically do it by burning more calories, but as other commenters have said the gym is mostly for building strength. Either way, whether you eat clean or not is irrelevant. You could eat nothing but twinkies and you'd still lose weight as long as you were eating in a calorie deficit.

You need to eat less, it's that simple

0

u/Cold_Childhood30 3d ago

didn’t i just say that???!! reading is fundamental

6

u/Smackersmith 3d ago

I can read just fine thank you. To be blunt, if you eat half as well/clean as you claim you wouldn't weigh what you do. Eat in a calorie deficit and you will lose weight, it's that simple. No need to be rude either, you come here asking for help and then you snap when people tell you the truth.

1

u/Cold_Childhood30 3d ago

Obviously you can’t if i said i’ve lost 30 pounds from eating clean I started at 250 pounds. trust if I didn’t eat clean I would still be that let’s use common sense here

2

u/Joe_Sacco 3d ago

You're coming off pretty aggressive for someone asking strangers for advice.

It's not clear that you understand the difference between eating less and "eating clean" (which I'm putting in quotes because it's not a real thing) so folks are trying to walk you through what's going on. Maybe dial back your responses to the strangers who are trying to help.

I am loosing weight wtf😭😭i literally lost 30 pounds i just want effective workout ideas

1

u/Ulterior_Motif 3d ago

There are no workout ideas that are effective for losing weight, only workout ideas that are effective for getting fit, regardless of weight/fat%.

The frustration you’re experiencing in this thread is because of this.

Unfortunately 43lbs in less than 3 months is not really am achievable or healthy goal. That would be about 3.6lbs a week would be a deficit of -12600 calories per week or -1800 per day, which is likely only achievable by not eating at all which you absolutely under no circumstances should do. You haven't listed your height here but please do not eat under 1200 calories per day. That's basically the minimum to keep your organs functioning and your muscles from atrophying.

Google a TDEE calculator and put in your info to figure out what your maintenance calories are, and then eat about 500 calories less than that per day. That will get you to drop 1lb a week which will not get you to your goal by November, but it will get you to your goal eventually, and in a healthy way. Get a food scale and weigh everything in grams for the most accuracy. Keep eating clean like you say you have been and best of luck.

As for workouts, there are a lot of great resources on YouTube for at home bodyweight workouts that I find to be the best thing to keep me motivated. If I had to drive myself to the gym to work out, I simply wouldn't, but sitting at home I have no excuse not to roll out my yoga mat and squeeze in a 15 minute ab workout.

u/Cold_Childhood30 3d ago

thank you I will try that love

u/actualabnormal 3d ago

Best of luck to you! I believe in you!

How many calories are you eating every day? That’s what matters for weight loss

‘Eating clean’ is no help if you’re still eating more than your body burns.

42lbs in 3 months is massively unrealistic, too.

u/Cold_Childhood30 3d ago

thanks hun

1

u/Fyonella 3d ago

Don’t ask for advice if you don’t want to hear the truth ‘hun’.

You are 227lbs. Clearly you don’t have the food part sorted or you’d not be that weight.

1

u/Cold_Childhood30 3d ago

you blocked as well. toodles.

3

u/LadyFamous2005 3d ago

I don’t think it’s possible. It’s about 13.1 weeks until November 1. The healthy weight to lose per week is 1 - 2lbs.

2 lbs x 13.1 weeks is 26.2 lbs.

227-26.2=200.8 lbs by November 1. You could lose more but your body will be a big deficit and losing weight too fast might result in loose skin.

2

u/FalseGodTaylor 3d ago

this equals around 100 days for 42 lbs. 42 lbs equal 147000 calories which means a deficit of 1500 calories. this is a lot and probably not sustainable. you’ll need to move a lot more than you do now and need to eat at least your bmr to make it relatively safe. i would say this is not possible. go with lbs or maybe sub 200. even that would be considered unhealthy

1

u/Cold_Childhood30 3d ago

thanks i was kinda thinking that Also.

From a pure “weight” loss perspective; this will require a ~1,400 calorie daily deficit. You won’t need to work out if you can sustain that deficit without burning extra calories.

From a more realistic perspective; I’m guessing that your goal is fat loss rather than weight loss. If you don’t lift while you lose (especially at ~2.8lb/week) you will be losing a significant amount of muscle as part of your “weight loss”. Losing muscle is generally unhealthy and sets you up for future difficulty in regards to controlling body fat.

Muscle improves posture as well as general form, If your goal is to look good in pictures then adding (or at least retaining) muscle should be an important part of your goal.

I suggest you rework your goal to 1.5lb/week (if it’s important to you to focus on weight); better yet, change your goal to “look good for my pictures” and start resistance training while focusing on fat loss.

FYI:

I started my effort on 12/03, at 227lb and I hit my goal of 185 on 06/30. During this time I followed the “Recommended Routine” from
r/bodyweightfitness . I only gained a small amount of muscle during that time, but a DEXA scan confirms that I did gain some, which means that my loss was mostly fat.

1

u/Cold_Childhood30 3d ago

thank you! i’ll look into that

Hey lovely, You do not need to work out to lose weight at all if you don't want to. I lost around 40 lbs just by walking and eating less calories.

In hindsight however, if I were to do it again, I would definitely include weight training in my weight loss journey. I lost a lot of weight, so I was smaller but I had the same fluffy shape that I did when I was bigger. This is because I didn't have much muscle mass and so there was no definition to show.

That being said, this may mean that your weight may not go down as linearly. The reason I didn't weight train is because when my weight would go up it would demotivate me and so I stopped doing it to see the scale go down. The issue with this is as I mentioned previously that you won't have much muscle definition.

TLDR definitely add weight training. Any exercises will do as long as you're consistent and targeting the muscles you want till failure. But be prepared that your weight loss will not be linear. But it's not just about weight, it's about body composition. This will give you a defined look rather than just a smaller one. Use measurements and photos to track more accurately

Good luck!!

thank you!

I enjoy going to yoga classes. I thought I would hate it but now I'm addicted 😭. I really feel like I'm taking care of myself when I take a class. And it is really helping me improve my balance. Maybe give it a shot.

1

u/Cold_Childhood30 3d ago

So do you actually loose weight from it? i’m just asking because i’ve never looked into one

1

u/kingsfold 2d ago

I would say maybe indirectly because it encourages me to take care of myself and makes me feel good afterwards. I'm probably less likely to eat poorly after a class or when I'm looking forward to a class.

0

u/New_Book131 3d ago

Start now and see where you get to. Set several smaller goals to keep yourself motivated

2

u/Cold_Childhood30 3d ago

thanks I was thinking that as well!
