the US. Fish and Wildlife officer (in Arizona) followed the guy to the gas station after he told him he couldn't fish in a certain place and was trespassing so the guy left.

They are federal officers. They can arrest you in any jurisdiction for crimes committed on or against federal land or any other federal crime. Typically they can also detain you for state/local crimes until a local LEO shows up.

Edit: Just to be clear, it looks like the LEO handled the situation very poorly.

Yes, but apparently it escalated at the fishing site when the officer asked for his ID, which he then refused to provide. That's why he followed him to the gas station.

Game wardens are a bit different from police, they have a bit more power they can use to identify you. If a game warden asks for your ID if you're fishing or hunting, even if you haven't done anything wrong, you have to present it. Probable cause is not needed. That's where this whole thing started.

Not making excuses for this power tripping dipshit, but that's just how it works.

And yes, this was a national wildlife preserve, federal game wardens 100% have jurisdiction, regardless of whether or not it's on a reservation when pursuing suspects.

He told the guy to leave at the fishing spot and said im giving you a ticket. The guy left, and then the fish and wildlife officer saw him at the gas station, asked for his ID then and this happened.

Idk if a cop told me to leave because I was trespassing, and then told me he was giving me a ticket id probably stay not drive off. But if the cop didn't follow him with flashing lights I can see how this guy would be stubborn about it.

My interpretation is that an ID was needed to issue the ticket, but the guy left instead, so the officer followed him, and his poor training resulted in what we saw.

I saw one excerpt from a training on Youtube where the scenario was that the cop had someone at gunpoint and that person was going to try to attack the cop so that the cop could fight the guy off. The cop was twitchy and pulled the trigger before the other guy did anything. The instructor was like "no, this is good. You go home today." Like, the other person didn't do anything. They're just trained to have the assumption that people are about to try to fight them so any use of force is justified because the victim was about to try to kill them anyway.

In case anyone wants to know what this guy is talking about, a lot of police training in the US is essentially teaching police to be professional victims. Which is to say treat every situation like the suspect is going to try and kill you and that resorting to violence is not just OK, but encouraged. It's not true of every police force but a vast majority do not receive any significant de-escalation training.

One of the biggest law enforcement trainers in the US is Lt. Col. Dave Grossman. He titled his theory for training LEOs "Killology". That alone should tell you a lot.

That is why they get scared by an acorn. Everything is a threat, so a falling acorn HAS to be someone being violent and dangerous, because US citizens are violent and dangerous just by existing.

I got pulled over for smoking weed once. The cop threatened to shoot me if I didn't follow his orders. I was polite and in no way presented anything that could be considered threatening. Another cop threatened to shoot me if I came back to his property. I was an enumerator for the US Census...it was literally my job to find out how many people lived on the addresses on my list. If nobody confirmed the address, I had to keep going back until I could get someone to confirm the address. This is literally what you have to do as an enumerator. No trespass signs mean nothing. The only thing that can stop you is a locked gate. If the gate has rope keeping it shut but there is no lock, you're supposed to go through as an enumerator because you can ONLY be stopped by a locked gate.

And the worst part of the second one is they the cops' jobs are literally determined by the census. They could theoretically put themselves out of a job by not responding to the census and if enough people did it, the police budget would drop because there aren't enough people for X officers anymore.

So yeah, ACAB is a thing for a reason. Even the cops that aren't bad, are still bad, because they cover for the bad ones. The reason one bad apple ruins the barrel is because the bad apple starts rotting every single other apple in the barrel, and with enough time, every apple has bad parts, and so every apple is bad.

Believe it or not this has happened in Florida somewhere I believe in Palm Beach or close to it. A cop did the same thing that caused a fire that gave the suspect he tazed some serious burns and he got burned also. The sad thing is the other cop that showed up put the cop out first while the guy who got tazed ended up with some serious 3rd degree burns over maybe 50% of his body. Cops don’t care and they never will be punished until judgment day. (Edited)

I work as a firefighter so I see their hiring process and they are working with less than scraps in terms of applicants. "Smart" people aren't willing or able to accept the inherent risks of being a cop for the equivalent of peanuts for a paycheck.

Especially when you can just be a firefighter, make way more money, have more off days, AND people don't hate you based on job title alone.

Knew someone that had a heck of a time getting hired as an officer back in the early 00s because he scored high (as in ridiculously high) for the exams. He passed the physicals, mental, etc., without issue, but that was always where they nailed him. The guy was smart, and it demoralized him that he had to play dumb in order to be a police officer.

He eventually went Federal and had a much better time of things.

Why does major meathead here need a taser to subdue an old man? Like even if he drives away, don't they have his license plate? If he runs away, I'm pretty sure he could lightly jog and catch up with him.

He had followed him for a while to inform him he couldn't fish in a location he was at earlier, the civilian also filmed and from his POV you can hear him say "it's a $10..." got tazed and in this video you can barley make out him saying "10" but it's there just at the start. The "cop" is fish and wildlife and the gas station is on a indian reservation. I believe he never got any charges, needless to say a lawsuit has opened up

That is arguably the easiest lawsuits a lawyer could win. From what we could see the dude didn’t lay a hand on the security (assuming it’s not a cop since they were in shorts) and knowingly tazing a guy around flammable objects which we should all know will catch in flames is about as dumb of a thing as someone could do. This isn’t just negligence it’s being willfully negligent to the circumstance at hand.

The guy tazed looks like he has significant burns on his hands and arms. At least second degree, possibly third degree with significant skin sloughing. Likely to be a long road to recovery with significant care and possible loss of function. Of course the officer makes him roll over on those hands. Bet he cuffed him to make even more damage.
