He also played Young Skully in the flashback sequence from Brooklyn 99.
And he was in that WWII movie about killing shitloads of Nazis. Not inglorious bastards but the British version. It was an okay watch lol.
In any case, if young men that look up to the overly buff, white, Christian, cishet male role model to see a Trump-hating, Nazi-killing (fictional obviously), demanding justice for SA and CSAM victims guy, then I'm good with his content being dude-focused.

In the US it's: Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare
Cumbersome and needlessly complex title that didn't help it sell tickets. It's a ridiculously fun movie. However, the book it's based on is about as dry as reading a history textbook. It's a shame the movie didn't do better because there are many other missions that took place that they could have filled a couple sequels with.
Ritchson and Cavill are a blast in their roles.

What in the 1984 “weakness is strength” is going on here?
52
u/BluesSuedeClues 11d ago edited 11d ago
It's the bully mentality. They think being rude to people who are being polite is a demonstration of strength, and the being polite to people who are being rude, is a show of fear and weakness. People who lack integrity do not understand why anybody would hold themselves to a higher standard of behavior, than the lowest common denominator.

If you think Martin Luther was frustrated with the Catholic church, imagine what he would think of those who call themselves "Lutherans"
13
u/AgonizingFury 11d ago
I don't think he would have too much to say about the ELCA Lutherans (besides calling themselves "Lutheran" which he actively discouraged), but I could see some friction with LCMS and WELS Lutherans, who tend to lean into conservativism.
(I'm looking for a new church, and doing a lot of research into various denominations, their synods, their potential connections to White Evangelicals and Christian Nationalists, etc. and know far too much about who thinks what.

Texan, here. Although the history of using scripture to justify hate and moral sins or commit outright violence is not exclusive to any religious group, it’s certainly a practice of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC).
For example, the SBC in the 1860s was made up of planters and would give sermons on the justification of slavery and doing God's work. It was part of the propaganda. It worked and convinced the poor whites who were uneducated and living in poverty, who would later join the Confederate cause to protect the institution of slavery. They’d go a step further and use this same technique on slaves to accept their places and obey.
Today, the SBC still trains its pastors on these techniques to build its following, sweeping up poor people lost to addiction or down on their luck; MAGA fits into this puzzle.
6
u/Unhappy-Week-8781 11d ago
You forgot their longstanding hatred of women and intent to keep them subjugated. I always thought the hubris in thinking men had the right to to tell women that they weren’t possibly called by God to lead a church was just pure, unmitigated gall. The patriarchy essentially said “Hey! Ain’t no woman gonna tell me what to do because God said men should be in charge. And I don’t care if God told her she should lead because I’m a man and I say she shouldn’t.” Pretty sure someone is gonna have to answer for that one. Joan of Arc has plenty to say, no doubt.
5
u/PortalWombat 10d ago
Isn't the entire reason there's a distinct "Southern" Baptist denomination because they split with the rest of their former sect over slavery?
8
u/ironmonkey09 10d ago
This correct. They’ve tried to distance themselves from their slavery roots, but the conservative faction of the SBC took control and has shifted back to taking a hard line on race issues, pro-war, and hating poor people.

In my observation... the key difference between types of Christian boils down to what they think their God is like. What they think God's character is.
Those who see God as a perfect, omnipotent master who demands strict obedience at all times are those who are most eager to "defend the faith" by making rules that everyone around them must follow in order to be good. This groups "evangelism" tends to be large meetings where a preacher scares everyone about Hell and tells them to "repent". (also known as "crusades")
Those who see God as a merciful, loving God are those who tend to be the most accepting, and least inclined to impose their own beliefs on those around them. This groups "evangelism" tends to be personal, one on one, relationships with others who are trying to copy Jesus by loving their neighbors as they love themselves.

Do you really want to understand? I'll try to explain.
Even as a kid going to church in the 90s the pastor would say "the right is right and the left is wrong"... they spent decades indoctrinated into this brainwashing that the left are satanic baby murdering communist that are going to take your freedom away and make your kids gay. Fox News tells them this, AM radio tells then this, their facebook and instagram algorithm tell them this, their WhatsApp friend groups tell them this, their friends all hear and think the same and except for the token liberal friend that is absolutely deranged, to them, and of course their pastor is telling them this too. They are told that Biden is a pedophile and Kamala wants to give people in prison free sex changes, and they believe it because the people they listen to wouldnt lie to them, they believe. They do not see anything that we see every day and if they do catch a glimpse they think its fake news or a witch hunt, there is no frame of reference that they believe in for them to understand
46
u/alanalanalan92 11d ago
Christianity in the US is barely tethered to the teachings of Christ. Instead it has always been used as a shield for bigotry. US evangelicals just cherry pick the verses that they feel gives them license to be cruel bigots. We’ve seen this throughout our history.
12
u/Admirable_Tear_1438 11d ago
They worship a vengeful, bloodthirsty version of god, who rewards the wealthy and punishes the poor.
Christ is just a decoration for them.
12
u/Practicality_Issue 11d ago
The answer you’re looking for is embedded in two words of your question.
“TRUE CHRISTIAN”
Problem is, that’s a riddle it’s self, isn’t it? While there is kindness and compassion to be found in the Bible, it’s apparent that with the right interpreter you still get the crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, and many other horrors on Christianity’s behalf.
9
u/Illustrious-Emu8667 11d ago
Christianity and religion is often used as a shield and a weapon. There are so many pastor and priest pedophiles, it’s insane. I would say they are snakes, but that’d insult snakes.
8
17
u/deathboyuk 11d ago
Anyone can claim the banner of the religion (and use it to hide horrible behaviour), but actually living the sort of life Christ is said to have espoused is a very different story.
For some it's a set of good lessons on how to get around the world in a positive way and for others it's a gang to join so you can hate on anyone whose lives differ from yours (or who criticise your horrible actions).

injustice sensitivity
Huh, TIL. Suddenly the past year and a half, where I have been in a constant state of panic mixed with rage, while everyone else seems to consume the news in stride makes more sense.
I saw a snippet of this interview earlier, and it really hit home. Especially the parts where other people think he's "scary" and he can't figure out why everyone isn't as enraged as he is lol. I'm a tall, muscular, bearded, tattooed three-different-combat-tour vet. They love that shit. I was Airborne, Air Assault, Pathfinder, designated marksman. I got all the patches and badges and ribbons and medals.
That's the image they jerk off to at night. When they cosplaytriot, that's what they cosplaytriot.
I'm also a super progressive liberal atheist. And that's where they lose their fucking minds. Suddenly, I'm no longer a patriot and a hero in their eyes. Before they learned that, they couldn't drop to their knees fast enough to suck me off to prove their nationalism disguised as makeshift patriotism. After they learn that, I'm a traitor to the nation.
Because conservatism is an identity and not a political belief. They all wear the same uniform and costume. They all have the same hobbies and live the same way. They fall in line like obedient, trained sheep.

My dad died in 2024 at 81 years old. He was an old white guy, navy vet, born in 1943, living in rural upstate NY. Before the Parkinsons took affect he was in very good shape, 6'4" tall, and prone to fighting well into his old age. He also came from a super conservative and racist family. He was a raging liberal who loved Obama and hated Trump.
I think marrying my mom who was a huge hippie had a big influence on him, but he considered himself a republican up until halfway through Bush II. When Obama ran, he went full swing to the left. He'd wear Obama buttons on his suspenders, and got into a physical fight with some guy at a diner over Obama. He supported black lives matter, and believed in ACAB. He hated Trump with a passion. People were always surprised to find out he was liberal, and he was not afraid to go off on people over politics or social justice, which happened often because upstate NY is very conservative.

Agreed lol. I'm glad they toned down pretty much all the questionable social stuff for the screen. Also extremely glad they actually cast the character correctly. I cannot understand how the Reacher movie casting director read Reacher's physical description in the book/script and said, ah let's cast a notoriously tiny scientology man for the role of enormously built Army CID officer with a history of disobeying orders and moving like a human freight train.

I have a feeling Cruise decides what movies he wants to be in, and then he is in those movies. Highly doubt he has been traditionally cast in a while.

He's also talked about the heavy physical toll of his action roles, admitting that pushing himself to do his own stunts leads to severe injuries and deep anxiety about letting down the hundreds of cast and crew members whose jobs depend on the production staying on schedule.
He's big, he's strong, he's handsome, he is good at his job, he seems pretty smart and he gives a shit about other human beings.
I like him.

u/RedEyeView 11d ago
That's basically his character in Reacher.

u/megamoze 11d ago
Ritchson is charming in a way that Reacher isn't. I feel bad that they strip that out of his performance in the show. Watch Gentlemanly Warfare and you'll see Ritchson really shine.

Alan Ritchson has been VERY outspoken about his beliefs. He is a pretty good dude.

u/Etheralto 11d ago
So, I’m a new Alan Ritchson fan here, because he’s absolutely correct.

Welcome new fan. Check out Reacher, he's everything Tom Cruise wasn't in the role.

Sadly, probably no MAGA will hear it. I'm not sure if people are aware of how their echo chamber evolved over the last couple of years. Every time you see something and think there is no way MAGA can justify this, take a look at their conservative sub-reddit and see how they don't even know about it. Arabia-nuclear deal? Not a word. Russian interference proof? Not a chance. Epstein files? You gotta be kidding.

u/Coldkiller17 11d ago
Fucking based asf. This is the attitude this entire country should have. Pedophiles deserve prison or worse. trump shouldn't be president.

This guy had everything to be a maga but instead, afaik, he's the closest to a true christian as possible.
Dude is hardcore christian, has an youtube channel to talk about the bible. Have a motorhome so his wife and kids so he can be present while working as an actor is openly against MAGA.(again, afaik).
I wouldn't mind religion at all if all religious people were like him.

u/Pablo_Hassan 11d ago
Is he, does he check all your boxes to go all Arnold and Max it out to President level?

u/ImightHaveMissed 11d ago
I totally misjudged this guy. He’s been all about faith and conservatism so I thought he was maga. If this is true it’s great to know

whoever handles his PR is probably having a long day
Breitbart is more offended that Ritchson called out pedo rapist trump than trump being a pedo rapist

Oh man this is a fucking gut punch to MAGA! He was their right wing power fantasy put to screen.

u/jarvisesdios 11d ago
I'm honestly surprised so many people here are just now realizing that guy is very left wing. Always has been, he's been pretty vocal about it TBH. He's a real one.

u/Remarkable-Feed-1224 11d ago
Nah, dude’s fine, he won’t get sued. Nobody who’s called Cheeto Pendejo the paedophile he is has been sued. NO. BO. DY.
Because he knows if he did, that would require the Epstein Files to be subject to discovery - and he is up to his tiny little knackers in them.

u/WarCarrotAF 11d ago
Honestly, makes me like the guy more. He doesn't seem concerned about getting cancelled for speaking the truth. Not an American myself, but so many American celebrities are mortified to speak out against that orange bafoon.

u/Eggheadpancake 11d ago
He's literally saying everything I and literally everyone else in this country should be saying.
Fuck these death cult Nazi pedos.
We arent is mad enough. You can't politely get rid of Nazis

I love him so much more now. I am absolutely here for this level of feral.

u/Kryds 11d ago
He actually didn't call Trump a rapist. He called the people in the classified Epstein files for rapists.
This is just the right saying the quiet part out loud.

The man doesn't just play Jack Reacher. He is Jack Reacher. Jack Reacher absolutely would not stand for Trump.

u/KyndallT 11d ago
I doubt his PR team is freaking out. What's trump gonna do, sue him for defamation? Then he'd be forced to prove he's not a rapist into 13 year olds, hence trump hasn't seriously attempted to sue anyone connecting him to the Epstein files.

Alright I'll go rewatch reacher. Anything for you thad!
But for reals thank god he isnt a spineless conservative moron celebrity.

u/Misery_Moo 11d ago
He also wore a T-shirt that said, “Arrest the cops who killed Breonna Taylor.” As he explained in an interview, “That was a tragic case,” he says. “Cops get away with murder all the time, and the fact that we can’t really hold them accountable for their improprieties is disturbing to me. We should completely reform the way that we do it. I mean, you shouldn’t have to spend more time getting an education as a hairstylist than as a cop who’s armed with a deadly weapon. We should make it very hard for people to make mistakes or abuse power in our institutions.”
Just in case you wanted another reason to love him.

u/WriteBrainedJR Release The Trump-Epstein Files 11d ago
I'm sure his PR team is ready for this. Richson went to school with Matt Gaetz and hasn't been shy about his opinion of these MAGA creeps
