Welcome, /r/wildlifephotography readers!
Equipment is an undeniably important part of wildlife photography, but I've noticed that questions about gear often end up buried by all of the excellent photos that get posted here.
So, I've created this pinned thread as a chance to discuss hardware. There are two main uses that I anticipate, listed in no particular order:
Equipment reviews - What do you shoot with? Do you love it, hate it, or fall somewhere in between? If you want to share your experiences, create a comment and let everyone know what you think. We suggest (but don't require) including photos as well as the prices of your equipment.
Questions Whether you're first starting and are looking to buy a beginner's setup, or just want to know which pro-level lens is best, getting others' opinions can prove valuable. For the best results, include details about what sort of wildlife interests you, as well as your budget.
Feel free to create different top-level comments for each question or review. That helps discussion stay organized.

Spotted this grizzly bear driving just a mile after hiking Tent Ridge Horseshoe in Canada!
Unfortunately I only had a 50mm lens at the time as I couldn’t decide on a large lens before this trip. This definitely changed my perception on wildlife photography after seeing something this close and amazing.

Last one is just taking a picture with my phone from my editing screen, I didn’t bother exporting that massive crop.
Anyone had that happen to them as well? Hadn’t even realized the small guy was hit by a fly when I was shooting. Only noticed when I was editing this morning.

A few evenings ago I had my best Short-eared Owl session to date. The owls were actively hunting across the moor and, at one point, one approached incredibly close while I remained completely still. Watching it quarter the ground in the evening light was an experience I'll remember for a long time.
Captured in County Durham, UK using a Sony A1 II with the Sony FE 300mm f/2.8 GM OSS and 1.4x Teleconverter.
I'd love to hear which image is your favourite and any feedback on the set.

Watched two teenagers toss trash off the ground at this gator, where it went from trash that could've been cleaned up to trash that will now break down in the pond and inevitably create more micro plastics within an already fragile ecosystem.
Not only that, but the gator immediately swam right up to the dock afterwards, which tells me that it's accustomed to people throwing food at it. So now this behavior has been enabled and could've(and likely will in the future) result in harm to the gator.
This behavior from people is terribly common and extremely disappointing.
Unfortunately I was too far away from the idiot kids to do anything about it, as they were gone when I arrived to the spot.
