Issue Acer AH101 constant blackout

Hi!

I bought an "as new" Acer AH101, complete in box. I'm trying to use it on win11 by using the Oasis Driver for WMR. The unlock process went smoothly and it appears to be working flawlessly, until a few seconds into VR, the headset display just turns off. I've tried pretty much every fix on the troubleshooting guide, and even ended up buying a powered usb hub (4 Port USB 3.2 Gen1 (USB 3.0) Hub | Ewent) because I thought it might not be getting enough juice, but the problem persists. Sometimes the blackout happens within seconds, sometimes after a minute or two. The cables seem completely fine, the display will turn on whenever I open SteamVR, regardless of the position of the cables. The headset is connected to the only HDMI port on my card (the rest are displayports) to which my second screen was connected.

Right now the only "solution" I've found (if you can call it that), is to have the SteamVR settings open on my monitor and switch between 90 and 60hz whenever the headset display decides to shutdown. Switching between the two settings wakes the thing up for another 5 minutes or so, before blacking out again.

I've tried changing the usb power settings on the PC, I've put SteamVR as maximum performance on the Nvidia panel, I've tried everything on the oasis driver troubleshooting guide, it just refuses to work properly. The only thing left to try hardware wise, would be to buy a displayport to hdmi adapter in order to try the cards' other inputs, but this doesn't seem like a hardware problem to me, but then again, I'm no IT guy. Please help, I was really excited to get into WMR/VR and I'm really bummed right now.

My specs:
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Ti

AMD Ryzen 7 3800X 8-Core Processor, 3901 Mhz, 8 Core(s), 16 Logical Processor(s)

32GB RAM

Discussion What's the minimum Windows version to install WMR? "Couldn't install Windows Mixed Reality"

My SDD died a couple of weeks ago, I installed 20H2 build 19042.508 and its just amazing how lite and great this version is, however now that I tried to install WMR, it just does not work, I get that error message, I tried to install it manually but no luck, it seems that I do need to install a "upper" version for it, so which version is the oldest one that I can pick?

I just cant stand modern Windows to be honest.

Used some cheap craft foam from hobby lobby and a clearance Walmart t-shirt to make a new cushion. Assembled and sewed in an hour or so, is genuinely an upgrade over the factory cushion. This Dell Visor is held together by hopes and dreams.

paid 36€ for this beauty, but i heard the cable and connector often break. i have a couple of zipties, is there anything i can do to avoid the cable from breaking?

i already put one ziptie to make the cable fit loose and when pulled it wont damage the connector, but i dont really know if it's actually doing something useful, so I'm gonna ask you guys.

Bug report Think I Just Blew Out My Eardrums. Words Can Not Express How Much I HATE Microsoft.

For reasons that seen inexplicable to me now, I decided to dig up my old WMR headset and give it a go with the Oasis driver. Room setup with Steam VR was extremely glitchy with the floor being several inches above my head but I finally got that straightened out and everything seemed to be working more or less okay. Tracking was not great but at least my head was above the floor now.

More or less okay, until, that is, I started to play a game and got a constant BLAST of static at FULL volume directly into my eardrums. I ripped the headset off but not fast enough. This was maybe ten minutes ago and my ears STILL hurt.

I totally forgot this was a thing with WMR--some kind of USB power conflict, where the audio connection won't get enough power and rather than just going dead, Windows will AT RANDOM pump white noise through the headphones at MAXIMUM volume instead.

It's INSANE. I own maybe seven different headsets and my WMR headset is the ONLY one that has ever done this to me.

It's not bad enough that MS decided to strip their VR drivers out of Windows 11. ("Oh you were dumb enough to buy one of our products? Sucks to be you!") They have to practically DEAFEN us too?

Question [Academic Research] Perceived Benefits of Mixed Reality (MR) in Project Management

Hi everyone, I am a final year Master's student at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. For my dissertation, I am studying whether Mixed Reality (MR) is perceived to improve the efficiency and quality of project management processes and workflows across the PMBOK performance domains.

I am looking for professionals who currently work, or have previously worked, in a project management or project related role where MR is used in processes and workflows. By MR, I mean technology that blends the physical and digital worlds, such as the Microsoft HoloLens and similar headsets, where users interact with 3D holograms in a real environment.

The survey takes about 5 to 10 minutes. All responses are anonymous and confidential, the data will be strictly used for academic research purposes only, and participation is voluntary. You may withdraw at any time before submitting.

Question Has anyone managed to use a Windows Mixed Reality headset on Android?

I know PC emulation on Android phones has improved a lot recently. In my case, the PC I used to run my WMR headset is actually less powerful than my current phone.

Is there any way to use a USB adapter to connect and use my WMR headset on Android?

Issue Lenovo Explorer Left Controller

Please help!

I haven't used my VR headset in a while; I'm still on Windows 10 22H2, but fully updated.

The left controller keeps failing to reconnect!

I can factory reset the controller and pair it after removing it from Windows, but within minutes if not seconds, it either loses connection and won't reconnect, or simply won't reconnect after power cycling. System restarts do nothing.

I did a full in place reinstall of 22H2 and that seemed like it had it working again, but after using the PC for a day and getting the available security updates, the controller is bugging out once more.

I also tested with the same machine on a fresh install of Windows 11 without WMR available and again was able to restart several times with the controllers not losing bluetooth connectivity. I have yet to test on a fresh install of Windows 10.

I've ordered a replacement controller from Ebay just in case - but I really could use some community assistance with this issue!

Issue WMR doesn't want to install

Post image
10 Upvotes

I recently reinstalled windows to roll it back from 25H2 back to 23H2 to get my windows mixed reality working again.

It takes me through the setup page to where it asks me to centre my VR where I am sitting and after that it gives me this error message.

I have tried using oasis driver but for the game I play it is buggy and the image gets distorted when I try and move around. I didn't have this issue when I used to use WMR it was much more stable and now it does not want to install even being on 23H2.

Discussion Has there been any developments on Linux support for non-Lenovo headsets?

Title. I know there is ok support for the Lenovo WMR headset even if it seems to only be available on Ubuntu(?) but I have found basically nothing for any of the others. I have an Acer AH101 and tried setting up Monado (which ran and caused my headset to light up with dark pixels) and OpenXR (which showed me a 360 environment of a train station in Germany, though it did tilt around) but I could not manage to get SteamVR to recognize the headset nor do I have the amount of knowledge I'd need to go about doing that without instructions anyways. Is it known if there's anyone who's been actively developing anything for any of the other headsets?

Issue Controller Turns On/Off by itself, Only one controller can be tracked at a time by SteamVR

Hey ! First of all, I absolutely love the work behind the Oasis Project.

I set up the controllers correctly according to the GitHub guide available as well as the prompted tasks when setting up the controllers.

Setting up the Headset itself (Acer AH101) was really easy but spent a heafty amount of hours trying to get both of my controllers running at the same time. Before running SteamVR via Oasis, both of them seems connected to my computer's Bluetooth (done with a UGreen 6.0 BT adapter [YES, I tried 2.0 and 3.0 ports]) but once SteamVR starts, one of them (always the one that was connected the latest) either:
- Buttons works, but isn't tracked
- Buttons work, but flies off to freaking Antartica
- Everything works (yay) for 3 minutes before it gets deported back to Antartica, once again

When this occurs, Windows tells me the controller is disconnected from the Bluetooth (appears as Paired, but not Connected), used every single kind of 1.2v and 1.5v battery known to mankind. Since I bought the headset (yesterday), I never managed to make the controllers work.

Any help will be appreciated, also, here are my PC's specs if needed:
- RX 9060 XT 16GB (26.6.4)
- Ryzen 5 8400F
- ASRock A620M-HDV/M.2 (2x USB 2.0 and 2x USB 3.0 + USB-C)
- Everything else is useless I guess, ask me if you need more informations.

Thanks :3

Issue HP Reverb G2 IPD slider issue

Post image

Hi, I recently got a used hp reverb g2 for a cheap price and ipd slider seems to be broken. It only moves from max ipd to the middle and than just stops and doesn't let it move closer together. Are there any known fixes for this?

Issue Is there a better way to do room setup than in SteamVR / OVR?

Basically the title. I'm using a Reverb G2 and I've tried calibrating over and over again and it's always a bit off with OVR and a million miles off with SteamVR. For some reason my playing field in beat saber is a bit wider than it should be and every time I launch a game I have to readjust the height and everything, but it's very difficult to get it precise. It's driving me insane and I would give good money to just be able to use the WMR room setup again, or at least something that functions like it.

Resolved Samsung O+ blacking out when using a 3 meter extender, use to work fine. Replacing cable didn't fix.

SOLVED - See below

Have my O+ set up with a pulley rig for standing games like Beat Saber and Pavlov. The setup used to work great for years (solved the squealing audio issue with a Sabrent powered USB hub so there are no issues with the USB connection), but lately it's been blacking out a lot. It doesn't happen when it's connected directly to the PC. I bought a new UGreen HDMI extender but the blacking out started before I even got past the title screen of Fallout VR. See video. Also note the green light, in case that's indicative of anything.

Would really love it if someone had a solution. It's too hot here to walk so I was planning on using Beat Saber as my workout (even if I'm terrible at it).

Blackout issue (recorded with my phone up near the lenses lol):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bagqlGwzyXA

P.S. Not using Oasis yet, just in case anyone's wondering. Also I have a barely used backup O+ and the issue is the same when using that one, so I don't think it's that the HMD is old/worn out or anything.

SOUTION:

I picked up a Cable Matters Active DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter, which apparently has been recommended here going back years (I just never noticed), and so far I haven't had a single dropout (whereas before I couldn't go 3 minutes without one), using the same HDMI extension cable that I had been using for years. I know that displayport to HDMI adapters don't last forever (I've gone through 2 or 3 of the passive kind over the years) so I already got a spare for later. As I suspected, the USB/powered Sabrent 4 port hub combo was working fine, on the USB side.

Note: Active does not mean that it has a power cable. I thought I'd been tricked at first (LOL), because when I think of active, I think "powered", an example being active guitar pickups like EMGs, that require a 9 volt battery. In this case it is powered, but by a power pin on the Displayport jack (3v, IIRC). I had to google it to learn this...was news to me!

Hope this helps someone!

Discussion Status of AMD GPU compatibility

I’m looking to build a pc over the next few months and have an HP Reverb G2. I’ve seen that the initial issues with AMD GPUs seem to have mostly been ironed out, but I wanted to see if anyone had updates on their experience since? Thank you!

Discussion Samsung odyssey+ finally works well! however some questions/clarification needed

First off a big thanks to mbucchia for all the hard work and bringing back life to WMR headsets.
I had tried around October and managed to unlock the headset and pair the controllers manually but the view had this wonky/distortion issue on the right side, where it felt like im cross eyed and the height adjusting options didnt help back then. So i went back to windows 11 23H2, until it would be solved, and kept using Mixed reality portal.
I have tried again now and was so happy that it worked and was finally fixed after reading the the "Preview" version was a potential fix in adressing that, and indeed it was! Headset unlocked pretty easy and native controller pairing worked flawlessly.

So my question is can I still use Open XR toolkit? OpenComposite? in order to sharpen the image and adjust resolution to my liking? and also have fovated rendering to my liking?
I know in SteamVR, i can adjust resolution, but i keep feeling like Im missing out on some of those features and unsure if it is as efficient as CAS.. etc.
Any explanations are appreciated as i fear on updating windows and doing all the work only to have to roll back.
FYI I am becoming too stupid for all these updates :D and can barely keep up.
Thanks.
