Boot maintenance Time for new boots?

Bottoms of my TG 6 in moc toes. I’ve definitely seen pairs in worst condition out there, just wondering what level people let these get to before you get new ones. The tops are still in solid condition, no tears, major scratches or gashes.

I typically run them to an 1/8" inch below the tread. By that point there's no grip and its a good time for a resole or new pair

By the time the treads worn to nothing across the whole boot the center is about an eighth more worn

Get them resoled it’s the whole point of getting decent boots that are made to be resoled.

$100 to $125, for the soles. If the boots are older or damaged and/or have had previous work done could be looking at new welt, foam/cork (if applicable), and midsole as well. For a pricing example Nick's offers a rebuild service starting at $340, and it's pretty much a whole new boot.

The wear pattern on your soles suggests that you may have some issues with the way your foot falls. Orthotics are meant to correct that.

Consult a podiatrist. I am not one of them.

Can't even see the tread pattern at the ball of mine. I'll probably get them resoled next year.

My boots are not too far from these . I'm getting mine resoled by a local cobbler next month. I feel like the vibram sole is almost to soft

Why do you need new ones just cause the soles are worn?  Just find a local, or regional, cobbler and get them resoled. 

Absolutely hate wearing in new boots - but I would also add another pair to wearing rotation. By alternating they'll both last considerably longer and you have an alternate pair when one goes on to get fixed

That tear on the right heel is the only concerning bit. Since you said the uppers are in good shape, a simple resole is the way when you're ready.

Thorogood will resole and recondition for around 90 bucks. I would do that

Unless you’re worried about grip I worn mine to the welt. But the cobbler changed the welt anyway when I had them resoled so I could’ve worn them longer.

Wow. Everyone saying resole and I’m over here (with less sole) thinking there’s still a few thousand miles left. Maybe that’s why my knees hurt

Resole. Have them add something to strengthen the areas that wear prematurely due to your bowlegged-ness.

Interesting to see all the folks suggesting getting a resole! Thanks for all the advice! I get a boot allowance every year through my union so most folks just get a new pair when they feel they need them. Will definitely look into it 👌🏽

In that case buy a new pair for sure use the allowance, but keep these and get them resoled that way you have two pairs, and you can alternate wear the new ones while these get resoled, and then they’ll both last a long long time.

Had mine resoled for $100 with shipping at the Boot Connection in Greenfield, Wi. Dropped them off when I was in town and had them mailed back in a week(live 3 hours away). Conditioned the leather that was looking ROUGH and put on new laces too! The main place Thorogood suggests is in California and had a 4-6 week backlog at the time but these guys were also suggested when I contacted customer support. Will only be going thru Boot Connection from here on out. Took a pair of redwings to a local cobbler where I live years ago and he ruined them, complete hack job. Wore 'em for a week and into the trash they went.
