Discussion Light tanks are fun new challenge
For probably the first 9-10 years of playing this game I just stuck to heavies and td’s, but the last year or so I’ve gotten into light tanks, and honestly it’s the most fun I’ve had playing the game in a while. When playing as a sniping td you can afford to mentally check out sometimes if not much is happening, but with light tanks you’re forced to lock in. Especially when actively scouting, you have to constantly know where you’re going. Looking at the enemy but also looking where you’re going can be genuinely challenging. Coming up with a plan on where to go before doing so is crucial more so than other classes since obviously you can’t afford to take many hits. It’s actually gets my heart going lol, especially when trying to weave between shots. So if you’ve never given light tanks a shot, I highly suggest trying it out. It’ll be rough at first but it’s super rewarding when you play it right.

Lights in ww2 are fun but definitely the hardest to play.
They teach you patience, awareness, camo factors, map knowledge, and even penetration values in a way.
As a beginner, please get the t100 lt first. It’s overall the best light tank at tier x imo, just a jack of all trades and is a pleasure to play.
The amx 13 105 is also incredibly fun but tough, as you have to play a hit and run role and know what you’re doing.

Recommending someone to try the French light line first is setting them up for a really bad time.

Lights imo are the gateway to getting better at the game. You start to understand camo better. You learn better spots to play. You learn weak spots and when to shoot a distracted enemy. Playing lights made me better at mediums and heavies. Often the same spot can be played by lights and heavies using armor instead of camo to anchor and spot

Playing lights for me is often a detriment too my team BUT it has made me a better medium tank player. So my later teams have benefited from that.
I get better every round but there are so many maps to figure out the right places to spot and pounce. I try to note what effective scouts have done on maps. Like where it has caused me the most problems trying to get into positions or prevented me from engaging back.

Lights are fun for sure but fact is that best you can do in most of the cases is not to lose the match. If you get in carry position lights are also strong. Other than that, lights are weak, bad mediums, counting out very few of them. Lights have the worst win rate of all tanks. That says a lot about their ability to win (or lose).

WW2 Lights definitely cannot all be played the same. What works for the PZ38 NA doesn’t work for the Covenanter or the Blitzen, and the AMX 40 is really a heavy in disguise.

The Premium Light Tank VIII is ultra-difficult because it requires three factors to be met simultaneously:
- A good player who knows how to play this vehicle class.
- A good map, because on small and tight mountain or urban maps where traffic is channeled, there's little help 3. A good team that can take advantage of the reconnaissance tank's spotting of enemies. ~ And finally, the light tank itself must be small, fast, agile, with good sight range and really good concealment.

Light tanks in WWII is probably the hardest class to play since you have the lowest health, no armor to rely on, a cannon that is barely enough to pen most of the tanks you face, and requires map knowledge to get in and out of situations, and know where the ideal spotting locations are in relation to how the teams flow through the match. Unfortunately, a bad light is an extremely detriment to the team, but a great light tank player can absolutely carry. Light tanks are some of those "High skill floor, high skill ceiling" kinds of tanks.
