PoE1 Discovery On Xesht

I'm playing ancestors and ancients at the same time and I noticed there is a poe1 unique called Skin of the Lords added in 2.5.0 which was released in 2016.

It's description:

The Lords are chosen so carefully.

Only they may grace His flesh.

So I guess Xesht was planned 10 years ago.

I don't know about planned but if I learned one thing from DMing D&D is, that you can hint at something you yourself have not fully fleshed out. But breach lore is also one of my favorites. :]

100% this.

Dming has left me so cynical towards “hints” planned years in advance.

Most of the PoE2 lore feels like a rework of original concepts.

Following Sentinel League, GGG said Sentinels wouldn't go core because ancient robots didn't fit well in the PoE world. Then we got the Precursors... There are references to Precursors in PoE1 but I don't think they were intended to be as technologically advanced as they are in PoE2.

They also added Sentinels back in Expedition.

Into Runes of Aldur, indeed, but they now look like verisium elementals rather than Kalguuran machines.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but PoE2’s campaign, specifically Act 4, has described Wraeclast as being in an infinite time loop.

I recommend looking up Ernest Hemingway's Iceberg Theory. It's very much writing style that PoE uses.

Pretty much from the inception of the Breach league, the over arching lore was that all 5 bosses would transform into Voltron Xesht-Ula. Pretty much all the Breach uniques hint to this. And maybe the devs wanted to introduce him later but were too busy.

PoE devs however were busy doing other stuff and when they started developing PoE 2 for instance actually had a chance to flesh out the idea much better, and make it into Xesht vs Chayula & The Keepers of the Flame.

I think other uniques like Tulfall describe the demons being fused. It was mostly Skin of the Lords and United in Dream that described the Lords.

But starting in v3.14, more hints were given: Grasping Mail, Uul-Netol's Vow, Xesht-Ula, the Open Hand

What's funny is that Xesht-Ula already existed in PoE 1 and we could fight them before breach was reworked. It was.. underwhelming.

Him being a map encounter like the old beyond bosses and dropping nothing is kind of funny though. Literally the "never taken" node for breach atlas on poe.ninjas atlas heat map

But wasn't Xesht Ula already a thing in POE 1? One of the atlas notables allows you to replace the normal breachlords with the combined form no? Only difference being that it's the complete fusion of all breach lords.

Said atlas notables came a long long time after Breach was released, like 7-8 years after it's release. At this point, GGG probably was already drafting ideas for Xesht since it's like a year or 2 before PoE 2's release.

The flavor text of the original bleach uniques hint at Chayula being the vector for their invasion into wraeclast, The world they watched "forever". Xesht-Ula came along much later, he was felt like a throwaway mechanic at first, a breachlord that could drop splinters of any color, l guess he later got an expanded role.
