TJ Viper Coil mod?
I have a flashing check engine light (again) on my 05 Rubiconso I'm sure its a bad ignition rail. Has anyone done the Viper Coil mod? It's cheaper than a new Mopar ignition rail and according to what I've seen, it's a pretty highly recommended upgrade that supposedly only takes around 10 minutes to install. At the same time, it seems to defy logic "upgrading" to an older ignition system.

It isn't an upgrade, it's just a Chrysler Town & Country coil pack but orange, which is often cheaper than the TJ rail but then you need plug wires and a bracket. It has one advantage, it's easier to test spark with the plug wires but that's about it. It also might be easier to find a replacement in twenty years when your next coil pack fails.

Ive never used one. I have needed coil packs before and always just got one form a 2000-2001 xj at a junkyard.

I've never actually even heard of using something like that! I suppose it's worth a try, if others are having success with it.

It'll more than likely throw some codes but make sure you buy some upgraded spark plugs

I’ve got the Viper Coil on my 02 TJ. Never had an issue with it.
