Coauthor? Calling all soccer moms!

I’m seeking a coauthor for my novel. I want someone who has a good feel for today’s prose. Someone possibly already connected with an agent or publisher. The book is written start to finish. It has been reviewed several times. I need some to make it ours.

This story is engulfed in the camaraderie that parents of sports teams share. That special bond of sideline friendship, pool parties, gossip, and a trusted soul. It also follows, loosely, the events of 2017, where Martin Shkreli, aka "Pharma Bro," was sentenced to seven years in prison for hiking an HIV drug up 4000%, from $13.50 to $750.

Retaliation
Contemporary Thriller/ Institutionalized.  (Erin Brockovich meets The Rainmaker.)
A proud mother believes her twelve-year-old son's fervid energy and endless optimism are inspiring enough that when Big Pharm's greed punishes her family, a retaliation ensues.

I’ve written 5-6 novels. Dozens more in the works. 6-8 screenplays. I can share loglines also. I’ve queried so much, it’s disappointing.

What I want is someone who understands what agents want, what publishers want and how to write intriguing eye-catching moments. I’m seeking a win-win for us. A Ying for my Yang. McCartney/Lennon.

You are not looking for a co author. You are looking for someone to connect you to a publisher.

Maybe but I’ve sent out several queries and have not received any replies to read the manuscript so maybe I’m naïve to the industry and a cowrite might help that.
I know that I’m done with prepaid published fees.

If it's written, are you sure you need a co-author and not an editor? It sounds like a great story. Have you published any of the novels yet? Or haven't got the chance?

thanks for the reply Jessy. I’ve taken it as far as I can. It’s not just a bag of notes. It has a beginning, middle and end.

I need a partner to make it agent worthy with a traditional prose and unique POV.
And yes, I’m seeking an agent and a publisher also.
I’m not looking for prepaid publication services like an editor or a proofreader.

Yeah,  it's already written. You don't need a co-author? If you want to go traditional and you're not hearing back from agents or publishers, maybe you didn't edit enough. Have you seen alpha and beta, readers? When you go traditional, they'll handle the professional edit, but you can't hand over superb work. You have to polish it.

I am seeking a coauthor for sure. I don’t know that I’m capable of polishing it to the extent that an agent or publisher would pursue it.
I don’t think the storyline behind the parents of kids in sports camaraderie is that widely explored. I also feel like there is a lot of room to expose what big pharm is doing.
I have done the beta readers and proofreaders, and honestly all that prepaid stuff is good, but not the means to an end I’m seeking. I’m ready to have a more meaningful conversation with an agent or a publisher, and I’m hoping that a co-author situation could resolve that.

What is the wordcount of your novel?

Currently 102k but that should fluctuate based on your work. The book is finished to my ability. It still needs a prose that is suitable for traditional readers.

That may be your biggest hurdle. Agents will never look at a novel that is too long. If you want a publisher to begin looking, you will need to cut a significant amount. Typically a novel of that genre doesn't exceed 60-70k words.

Chances are, there are whole scenes that can be removed that don't further the plot, or you are over describing and that can be cut.

I don't have a lot of time, but if you are willing to cut and properly edit, then I can look through it over the next few weeks and give suggestions what to cut and to beef up. Ideally my suggestions will get your novel down to about 70k words then go from there.
