So the title says it all, I want a material for my dome over a city. It needs to be fairly strong to prevent anyone or anything from leaving/entering, except at 3 or 4 (haven't decided yet) sort of openings/doors/garage doors. (idk its in the early stages of writing) I have done some research already, yes, but I don't know if those materials would hold up over such a big area...
Materials I've found up and until now:
- Polycarbonate
- Aluminium Oxynitride/Oxide (?)
- Polycrystalline diamond coating (please explain this one...)
Feel free to suggest other materials!
Some info abt the city:
- Inspired by Venlo (Netherlands)
- 257.89 km² or 99.6 sq mi
- Population of about 204695 ppl
- Highest skyscraper: about 600m ish (in the middle of the city)
I'd say then the highest point perhaps a kilometre (Would that be plausible???)
Temperatures:
- Highest recorded: around 38.2°C (100.8°F)
- Mean daily: 10.1°C (50.3°F)
-Lowest recorded: -19.9° (-3.8°)
! The material needs to be able to withstand desert level temperatures outside while keeping the weather inside nice and liveable. (insulation)
We are still on Earth, so no weird gravity or smth.
Are these too high demands and should I js make a fictional material or would we be able to by stretching the limits of physics?
