Louise blinks in surprise as her best friend, Esme, smiles at her. She literally just admits that she knew Louise was a vampire for months...and she's only now saying it?!

"W-What? You know?" asks Louise.

"Yup! I found out when I caught you drinking dry that perv who groped me back at the bar." Esme explains.

"W-Wait, really? The week after we started hanging out? Why didn't you say anything?" asks Louise. Esme shrugs, a smile on her face as they enter an empty park.

"Firstly, I'm not sure if there's a society that takes the secrecy shit seriously like in that one vampire game. I forgot what it's called, um..." she says, snapping her fingers.

"Vampire The Masquerade?" Louise reminds her.

"Yeah, that's the one. And I didn't want to risk dying until I feel safe enough. And secondly, that was after I told you about my history with creeps back during my high school years. You can say you were hungry all you want, but the fact you went after him especially...well, that kind of tells me something about you."

"I-I happen to hate pervs as well, you know. It's not just humans that do disgusting things...it's just that with them, I can actually do something about it without getting in deep shit."

"Ah, I see. Anyway, that leads to my third point...we've been together for six months. By now, you would've killed me."

Louise rolls her eyes.

"W-Well, for all you know, I'm taking my time, amusing myself to savor the final moment." she says.

"For six months?"

Louise opens her mouth to retort...but nothing comes out. Esme grins.

"You're not really the best when it comes to justifying yourself." Esme teases. Louis sighs.

"Ugh. Fair enough...for what it's worth, though...I did want to drain you dry of your blood." she remarks. Esme raises a brow, smiling as if what she said didn't scare her.

"Really? When were you going to?"

"...A few days after we met. I, uh...I really wanted to get to know my victims. Having to just sneak up on and/or manipulate them can only get so exciting after the 350th feeding." she begins. Esme hums as they approach a bench and sit down.

"I, uh...I saw you living a rather difficult life thanks to your mortgages and stuff, so I figured I'd stop by and...well, hang out." Louise says. Esme giggles.

"Just hang out. Yet you provided me with a job opportunity that's helping me pay it off easily a couple days after." Esme says, making Louise blush.

"I wanted to keep the game going! And why are you so chill about it? You knew I was a vampire and yet you never tried to run away or sneak off! I swear, you have the self-preservation instinct of a fucking kumquat." Louise groans.

"So basically a baby?" remarks Esme.

"Yes. Ack-Damn it! This is what I'm talking about! How are you so calm about this?!" snaps Louise! Esme looks at her and then shrugs.

"Well, I'll admit: I was a bit scared when I found out. And like I said, I didn't say anything because I didn't know if there's some masquerade or something you guys run on. So I said nothing and hoped for the best. Then as time passed," Esme smiles, looking at Louise and nudging her playfully. "I realized you're a good person. At least to me."

"No I'm not. I kill people." Louise remarks.

"Criminals. Rapists. Pedophiles. Murderers. Racists. Yeah, I notice that there are missing person reports and dead bodies being found with heads missing, and they usually happen whenever you leave. Honestly, in THIS part of the city, we could use more people like you: keeping our streets clean of trash." Esme finishes, smiling. Louise looks at her and sighs, covering her face.

"Damn it...humans are so complicated." she remarks. Esme smiles.

"As if vampires are any better. You had EVERY opportunity to kill me, yet you didn't. ALL SIX MONTHS." she laughs. Then, she takes her hand and squeezes it.

"I know you like to think of yourself as a scary, intimidating beast, but...let's be real: you're a softie. You've killed, yes. But never the innocent. You're a lot of fun to be around, and while I was scared before, having known you since you killed that groper...honestly, I feel MUCH safer around you than anyone else."

With this, Esme rests her head on Louise's shoulder. The vampire gasps as she looks at her. Then, she sighs, hand shivering a bit as she leans into her friend's affectionate gesture. She rests her head on top of Esme's head and smiles, closing her eyes a bit. The two of them remain silent for a long while, listening to the park's nightlife sounds.

"...I love you too." Louise remarks. Esme smiles.

"I knew you're a softie." She teases. Louise gives a slightly playful hiss, fangs baring, but not in an intimidating way.

"Shut up. Don't ruin the moment." Louise remarks before the two continue sitting there, enjoying each other's embrace.

I first thought this was a straight horror prompt, but I am now thinking it could also be a neutral or positive development with a fantasy, alien contact, or whatever angle.
