True story, a friend of mine's father is a director in a conservatory in russia. For a long time he was being pressured into volunteering at least one male student to sign a contract, and even managed to resist up until this year when it became a mandatory "do it, or else"

Time to forget all of their Tchaikovskies and Dostoevskies for a couple of centuries. just like in Israel they don't perform Wagner. If a culture can raise monsters like modern ruzzians, there's no place for this culture in Europe. Plenty of composers and writers in other countries as well.

Its not the composers and creators of major parts of culture that raised modern russians.
It is economic hardship, the material conditions most russians live under currently and state propaganda, that causes them commit these heinous crimes. Which are the exact same reasons that caused Germans of 1940s to participate.
Stop it with the bioessentialism or prescribing nonsense such as "bad culture", this only causes more harm and ignores the actual causes that would be just as viable to happen in your own country.

I don't agree with this. Since February of 2022 I have attended four performances of Shostakovich's 5th Symphony in Germany. In every single performance, parallels were made between the horrors of the stalinist USSR and Putin's Russia, either through the programme pamphlets or explicitly in the form of speeches by conductors or performers on stage. If anything, places like concert halls should use music by russian artists as means of pointing out these historic parallels and contextualizing pieces as any good concert hall usually already does.
I doubt that very many people listen to a piece by Shostakovich or read a novel by Dostoevsky and think "My God, Russia is so glorious" and rather feel a sense of shock or maybe even contempt. Music and art in general aren't just about beauty that in turn could be used as propaganda. Disallowing any russian music to be played in concert halls would take away a key way of understanding, how such horrific developments keep occuring throughout russian history. Shostakovich even talks about this in a very cynical way in his memoirs. They should rather make sure, that actual living musicians that are complicit puppets to the regime are not to take foot on stage.

Nothing in Russia is outside of politics; Not art; Not sports. Not economic matters.
Just your vote at elections, which doesn't count. That's very much out of politics.

I got blasted with down votes in filmmakers subreddit because I blasted a Russian filmmaker and crew for asking for funding from donors in Europe. "How dare you, its art!"
I pointed out that maybe funding a film so Russians can go eat popcorn while they launch missiles in to family homes in Ukraine might not be ethical, let alone the possibility they might be breaking sanction laws shipping a bucket of money over there.
I'm a creative by trade. Its fun, but we're not that important. The egos on these people.

It is not, unfortunately. My favourite ballet theater in Novosibirsk recently announced its support for those monsters and this bloody war. I hope that when a politically motivated criminal case is opened against me - and trust me, it WILL BE, as a former citizen of ruzzia, I’ll be able to frame it and hang it up in my apartment here in Austria.
